I used to be TERRIFIED of flying! But I realized that I didn't want that fear to hold me back from traveling, which is one of my favorite things to do in life. It took several years of "exposure therapy" (no such thing as gradually building up to it. A one hour flight wasn't any less daunting to me than a longer one), and LOTS of self-talk, I finally became a non-anxious flyer. I repeatedly reminded myself that millions of people fly every day and don't die, that many people fly for a living or fly often on business. I read about the safety statistics for flying vs driving. I talked to friends and family who fly often and asked how they felt about it. One of the most helpful things was to watch the flight attendants faces. They appeard calm and comfortable, so I knew I could be too. It took several years of logic, self-talk, observing others and reminding myself WHY I fly--because of my love for new places and experiences. Also, deep breathing..knitting...calming soothing activities.. 😁
I had a panic attack that came out of nowhere and since then I get lighneadedness often from worrying about axienty. It got to the point where going outside feels daunting. I think stepping outside and walking in the neighbourhood is a great start and getting professional support too.
My biggest fear has always been NOT being good enough and not being accepted by the environment, especially by those closest to me, but it's much less of a problem now, because I've learned to bend it in the right proportions! Thanks for this encouraging video :) "Fear is a great feature, it's just a matter of using it right" ! It's not that easy, but the learning process is invaluable! ! !
Omg Julia thank you sooo much for this one, I had no idea so many people have driving anxiety 😳 it's rather comforting. This talk was sooo incredibly helpful 👌 I've been driving like on busy roads and the highway but with the comfort and help of another trusted driver so ima try TRY to talk myself down and do small drives by myself to shake the fear off. Wish me luck 😁!!! Definitely a valuable talk, thank you for mentioning the driving ❤️
Julia!! Senior Shifter here! This is a great video, and you know me - you know this is something I struggle with. All kinds of thoughts came up for me. I really will have to work on this!
Hi Julia! Thanks so much again! I'm so gratefull for the self talk method and in particular the "I've got my own back" approach!!! I've been struggling with social anxiety ever since i can remember. If i had to even speak a few words in front of a crowd like in a work meeting i could only think of surviving the event without losing my ability to literally produce words and survive it. I've managed through the years by gradual exposure to gain some confidence but I still suffer from severe fear before any presentation i need to do at work. Your video is so exciting I feel the "I've got my own back" phrase i'll keep telling myself every time I'll confront this fear. Julia you're so talented you influenced my life so much and give priceless tools for coping with life!!!
My mom used to try to push me out of my fears or I feel like looking back manipulate which is just made things all worse because I think in her mind she knew what she was doing but in reality she didn’t
Just finished watching, thanks for the video Julia! I've been trying that. Sometimes it's a matter of remembering to think it too! Especially with my own self-healing that I've been doing lately, when I get into a dark mood and it starts feeding itself and driving me toward frustration. After the fact I can bring that self-talk in, and sometimes during, but not always. I'm working on trying to bring that positive talk closer to the point when it's needed. Just tell myself that I have to not give up and keep working on it, it takes time and practice.
Development creates fear. If I accept fear I need courage. If I don't accept the fear I need safety or security. I try to accept the fear and liberate it so it dissolves.. We all have to experience fear since life wants to develop
Awesome video Julia! I remember my dad helping me with my bicycle. I had to have training wheels for a little while. I had a fear of swimming while I was younger. I developed some visualization techniques that worked for me. This was above twenty years ago. Thanks again for all your content!
Thank you for addressing this topic! I'm very claustrophobic and struggle with riding in cars (I have to be driving or riding in the passenger seat), elevators, and flying. I try to reason my way out but I get tripped up in the fact that I cannot get out, especially when it's out of my control. I end up not being able to reason my way out of it. I have full blown panic attacks in these situations. Any suggestions?
Thanks for talking about this! Fear of abandonment by closest people or betrayed by a best friend… can you talk about that as an addendum to this video?
Gradually overcoming fear of flying is very difficult. For the most part I think you're either in a plane or not. So I came up with an idea. I went to one of those small airports and had a ride in a small plane. At each step I just said well if I am not calm I can give up at any point. But I did the whole thing and then later I was able to get on a big plane.
Have you done a video on health anxiety yet? I have an intense fear of getting breast cancer. I am paralyzed with fear each year when my mammogram rolls around 😢😳
I fear to be in big gathering. I am afraid of a maniac shooting at the crowd or some kind of explosion. I don't feel I would like to try any of the methods you are presenting here. I told this to my therapist who had the same set of remedies for my problem. I think it a little sacrifice for me to eliminate the risk of losing my life in this kind of festivities. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for a great series of videos from you. Me and my two sons 19 and 23 having a lot if learning from your videos. Thanks.
I don't think I learned to ride a bike as young as your daughter. Maybe I just don't remember having a bike that young. I do remember falling and scraping my face badly when I decided to wiggle the handlebars vigorously while riding. Some teenage girls found me bleeding and crying, and brought me home, as I was about a block from my house. This was back in the days when kids roamed about freely...
I would have a fear of going into the forest Julia if I knew I would encounter bloodthirsty wolves. I also have a fear of rattlesnakes and any kind of snake.
Thank God my dad taught me to ride a bike. If my mom had to teach me I wouldn't bother. Whenever my mom tried to teach me anything it was a total scream fest because I couldn't get it right away. No point trying anything. Never turned in homework. Better to be ignorant than deal with that. I can't even imagine my life under different circumstances; what life would be like if I was set up for success?
You're wearing a Nirvana shirt. is that your way of suggesting that overcoming your phobias is a path to Nirvana? Or are you implying that you wish Kurt Cobain dealt with his troubles better?
6 minutes in, and you're still not even close to beginning the "How to overcome.." part yet. Why spend so long with useless talk before getting to the point?

Love this so much! Were you able to conquer it without meds? That is my goal as I stopped taking them

Hi Julia, can you make a video on how to get rid of this mindset, “if he or she finds out my flaws, they’re not going to like me as much etc”

"This is a much watch..." [momentary confusion]. Love it! I recognize that look! It's so fun when that happens :D
My mom used to try to push me out of my fears or I feel like looking back manipulate which is just made things all worse because I think in her mind she knew what she was doing but in reality she didn’t
Maybe she thought it would help you overcome your fears? Was she doing what she thought was best for you?

How you give freely of your time & energy, you are on the "Remarkable" list.

Hi Julia, what if exposure is impossible and you have to do flooding? Like for emergency travel or medical procedure?
Thanks for talking about this! Fear of abandonment by closest people or betrayed by a best friend… can you talk about that as an addendum to this video?
How would you use these methods if you have a fear of going to the doctors or a hospital?

How do I deal with a Fear of family death. Or a fear of going through life alone and never finding my person? Those are my fears :/
Fear is a part of life.
I love Nirvana Julia.
Fear of death. Something I really don’t want to practice everyday.

I have mold toxicity and am in freeze/flight 24/7
So afraid of my mold house
I am wondering where I can buy the steps to self trust for $ 17.00 USD ?

What about REAL fear…living in toxic mold and having mold in me…panic all the time. Incredible fear. Paralyzing 😔help me
I have a fear of spiders too Julia.
I would have a fear of driving Julia if I had a car and could drive.
I would have a fear of going into the forest Julia if I knew I would encounter bloodthirsty wolves. I also have a fear of rattlesnakes and any kind of snake.
Nice shirt
Sweat is fine.
I fear guns Julia I would never pick up a gun unless I absolutely had to.
I actually really wanna go to the forest at night, and yes there are probably some wolves there 🤣
Probably a lot safer going in the woods with wolves than going into these so called vaccine senters these days🤣
impossible to miss the eyes of another empath,,,
💫
Speaking of fears and phobia’s, why are all of your videos in black and white?
She finally got to the point after 6 minutes of babbling. But I think it is better if she keep it short. I am lost in the words.
