Never thought I’d be among the first few to comment, but just wanted to say that ever since I started watching your movie reviews… I always look forward to ALL the movies you review (popular or relatively obscure). Funny, enjoyable, and brutally honest too… very straightforward which I really appreciate. Big shoutout!

I was at the world premiere of this at Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans, which had Nicolas Cage and Chris McKay there! AND I was actually an extra in this movie (on a scene in the last third of it). So seeing the movie, with both those guys there (and even meeting them) was a blast!

How's Cage in real life? I hear he's a hoot and a nice guy.

I really enjoyed Awkwafina’s character arc but you gave a good point about how her character could’ve been the one to help Renfield out of his situation instead of the support group, that would’ve been great to see as well 😀

Mulates is a real restaurant. It is cajun food. It is across from our convention center by the river. Btw, I love this movie.

This review was gouda. I think Joseph's idea of a cop investigating murders that lead to a vampire sounds awesome.

Short answer. It is a reference to the original and shows that Renfield is a madman.
Long answer. Rienfield eats insects to gain power. This is a reference to the original Renfield character in the insane asylum. In the story Dracula sends him flies to eat. The original Renfield wants to be on the top of the food chain, so starts feeding flies to spiders, and then spiders to birds... so on until more life force accumulates in the creatures higher up the food chain that he will then eat. He is also constantly justifying or downplaying the habit to other people. Renfield wants to eat people and drink blood like Dracula, but bugs are the next best thing.

I loved the use of Charity Hospital. They was a great hospital, made really well. Pissed that they couldn't fix that up instead of building a new one. It survived Hurricane Katrina.

I remember "Angel" series (David Boreanaz) had a 'fixed format' with a green demon sidekick good guy! So, your idea is a more fitting story for Count Dracula, as it also could attract the new, and curious too. I mean now with CGI, your versions would be right!

While I think the suggestions of different stories are interesting and would make for a good movie, I think it takes out the emphasis and examination of abusive relationships if things were more focused on Awkwafina's character and her dynamic with Renfield.

Guess ya didnt catch it but just off yalls review, Lobos in spanish means wolves. So basically Vampires v Wolves. That centuries old rivalries. I thought that was pretty clever. 🐺🧛‍♂

Mulates has a few different meanings. First, it is an actual restaurant in New Orleans that does not have the silly sign in the movie. 2nd, it could mean person of mixed race parentage (Looks like this is what is meant). 3rd it could be a Latin form of emulate, specifically (That person is pretending to be...).
This is information I looked up. I am not an expert.

the movie was a great metaphor for the abusive dynamic between ourselves and the power-hungry institutions we're embedded within; a wild, chaotic, and colorful argument for the (failed) defund the police movement from 2020. how do we walk away from institutions, initially meant to protect, but later revealed to be toxic narcissists feeding off their vulnerable hosts? the movies calling the police force a bloodsucking entity preventing it's people from "growing to full power" by allowing crime to run rampant (the lobos and the pigs vs the quincys) or by forcing us to partake in the crime (renfield vs dracula). however the film doesnt take itself too seriously demonstrated in the campy performances, the hyperviolent fight scenes (at mulates and apartment complex) with its abundant use of CGI blood, and not to mention NICOLAS FUCKING CAGE. its not taking itself too seriously while actually talking about something that usually gives people the political hibby jibbys. it's a very clever film for both those who just want to have a good time but also good for those who like thinking, and especially for those who like a combination of the two---which is why we love cinema, no?

The better story is Renfield living with her. Him asserting his dominance in a ridiculous fashion. She kicks him out. He goes back to Dracula. Goes through his EMO phase and Dracula plotting to fully turn him into an eternal minion

Hey guys. Mulate's is a family name, and locals pronounce it "mew-lats'. I know it almost sounds like a problematic term, but's not that. They come from cajun country where the original restaurant is. Also, it looks nothing like that. They have cajun music and dancing, but more family oriented than Vegas.

The trailers for this movie look promising. I am a fan of Nicholas Hault. Nick Cage is a bit overrated nowadays for me. But this would be fine for a rainy afternoon. I really don’t think I would go to the movies to see this. But, it comes across cute, maybe?!!!? Is Renfield Dracula’s assistant in other Dracula movies? I just can’t remember? My favorite Dracula movie was Love at first Bite. George Hamilton was just so funny and he and Susan Saint James were really funny together!!!!! I was a kid and used to love it!!!!!!
