- Two British fighters, once heroes of the Ukrainian resistance, now face execution for war crimes.
Captured during the siege of Mariupol, Aiden Aslin, and Shaun Pinner are accused by the Kremlin of acting as foreign mercenaries in the ongoing conflict.
The charge alone is enough to strip them of their rights - under the Geneva Convention mercenaries are not recognized as legitimate combatants.

Britain is not at war with Russia. If they were fighting for Ukrainian, it's up to Comedian Zelenskyy to ask for their release. You know what else show the difference between Ukrainian and Russian solders in captivity? Ukrainians get medical attention, food and water, and they can make phone calls to their families. If you take no side … there is a war … soldiers fight against each other … even the Nazi forces in the second WW treated captives with respect … ok they failed to manage them properly due to high numbers at times, but they were fellow combatants from the other side … on the battlefield it can look a bit different, but not as POW … this not what soldiers deserve. Neither side.

Unlucky for them they were captured in a breakaway republic that had been under western Ukraine occupation for over 4yrs with many pro Russian supporters killed. They were Ukrainian citizens and were part of one of the Marine Brigades. They are regular soldiers/marines, not mercenaries or volunteers or paramilitaries. So legally it's no different from any other Ukrainian soldier.

Then there are 200 terrorist fighters redeployed from the US-controlled areas of Jazira region in Syria. To date, 80 have been eliminated and 66 have left Ukraine.
In total, our lists as at June 17, 2022, include mercenaries and weapons operating specialists from 64 countries. Since the beginning of the special military operation, 6,956 people have arrived in Ukraine, 1,956 have already been eliminated and 1,779 have left.
As long as 3,321 mercenaries are alive, not yet captured, or have not yet escaped to the Ukrainian border.

I don't understand. Both British blokes have served as regular troops in the Ukrainian military for at least 4 years. They have 'familial' ties to Ukraine (through their wife/girlfriend), and have also resided in Ukraine, for many years. Name ONE mercenary who has put down roots, ANYWHERE.
