To keep things simple and easy: 1) a Dreadnaught is piloted by an almost dead Space Marine, it’s a walking coffin of death and destruction; “EVEN IN DEATH, I STILL SERVE” -Dawn of War Dreadnaught voice line 2) rules usually come in the box, after the assembly instructions. However if you want the full rules for Space Marines, there’s a rule book (CODEX: ADEPTUS ASTARTES) coming out October 10th 3) it’s totally legal to use a Dreadnaught in a Space Marine army, games are based around either how many points of Space Marines you want to field or a Power Level 4) Don’t worry about which weapons to use starting out, play games based on POWER LEVEL and NARRATIVE PLAY. You will have more fun and you can use whatever upgrades you want without having to worry about POINTS COSTS. AND LASTLY: WELCOME TO THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE 41ST MILLENNIUM, WHERE PEACE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY WAR, DEATH, AND DESTRUCTION IN MASSIVE QUANTITIES!!! :D
I'm sorry for another essay, I just get so caught up in trying to explain things I go overboard. In regards to the 'weapon decals maybe' at around 1:47, those symbols indicate the rules of the weapons to use when using them, what type of weapon they are, Melee, rapid fire, heavy, assault weapons, etc they have different rules for shooting, kinda like in armada (i wanted to use legion but I don't really know the rules to explain it as clearly as i want to, i hope this helps, it'll make sense when you start gaming) how there's different rules for ion, turbo lasers and I want to say torpedos, i forget what the black dice are. In armada the different weapon type indicates what range you can fire at and what dice are used in the pool. In 40k, the different weapon types are a bit more complicated, i'm not 100% up to date so feel free to correct me below people. These symbols are pretty new and I can't find an actual chart in my rule book for them surprisingly (maybe i'm blind) -The two swords crossed over is a 'melee' weapon, so you can only use it when engaged in melee, like legion. I think it's within half an inch of a model this edition. -the two bullet symbols should be rapid fire weapons, blaster equivalent weapons, not quite designed for running and gunning but not heavy enough to be difficult to fire while moving. Basically these weapons if you're in half range you get to double the number of dice you roll when shooting. So if that weapon (storm bolter i'm assuming by the stats, i don't know the primaris dreadnought weapon names because i'm a chaos and necron player) is shooting a target 15 inches away, that weapon has 2 dice it rolls, but if you were say at 8 inches away, you'd get four dice! -The almost star like, or explosion looking symbol are heavy weapons. On infantry units (so not the dreadnought because he's a vehicle) suffers a -1 to hit if the model had moved in the same turn. Kinda difficult to hit with missile launchers and other big bulky weapons if you're moving around. -The final weapon type this unit has, the corporal rank symbol is an 'assault weapon' (I think, i don't recognise the weapon profile, and these symbols are new to 40k). Legion is a great example for this. Normally in legion you can either only move and shoot, or double move and not shoot (there are a few exceptions like bane getting a free action). It's kinda similar, in 40k when you move, you can choose to 'run' giving you and additional d6 inches of movement, but this stops you from being able to shoot should you choose to run. (it also prevents most units from charging into melee later). Assault weapons allow you to shoot after running with a -1 to hit penalty. There are a couple of other weapon types not listed on this as it doesn't have those weapons, but you'll find them on your other models. I have no idea what their symbols are, but hopefully they're be easy to tell when you see them. -Grenades: One model can throw a grenade instead of firing its other weapons. Almost all, if not all, of your infantry units will have this. The two main grenades are frag and krak grenades. Frags are anti infantry and so it might be better to give up one marine firing a pistol or bolt gun in order for a bunch of extra attacks, and kraks are more anti vehicle grenades, so will more like hurt a tank using a grenade instead of firing a pistol into it. Grenades are usually pretty short range weapons. -pistols: They're pistols. Usually 12 inches or shorter range. Unlike other weapons, pistols can be fired while in melee combat. Pretty nice having a sergeant or captain with a plasma pistol and powersword being able to wreck enemies with both shooting and chopping. Now for a bit of fluff (that's what people refer to lore as, i don't hear it used in other fandoms) because you noticed something and I'm impressed (sorry if that's coming off as an insult or rude it's not i promise), but you're correct about it being a coffin inside. Marines piloting dreadnoughts are marines that have taken mortal wounds, wounds deadly even to these super soldiers. If they can 'save' the marine and they're deemed to be important enough (i mean you can't turn every wounded astartes into one, there's just not enough dreadnought chassis to go around), they'll essentially be kept on life support in these machines of war. There's a saying that is usually associated with dreadnoughts: "even in death I still serve".
The next thing I would absolutely recommend would be the start collecting Vanguard space marines set. It is the best value you can get for space marines and gives you a variety of useful units 👍
its perfectly legal since its a Elites choice i believe, since you have a hq and two troops choice's it will go nicely alongside your bikes. *edit: i realise you only have one squad of intercessors you would need 2 of these to have a "battleforged" army but its still legal in open play
a list with only one troop choice is legal as a battle forged army, it must use a Patrol Detachment which is minimum one hq and 1 troop. a patrol detachment also can take up to 2 elite choices so using the dreadnought is also legal.
You can play the redemptor (elite) in with your troops as a combat patrol detachment. So you're good. Redemptors are beasts, depending on what chapter you take them in, they're pretty tough and they put out a ridiculous amount of firepower.
Dreadnoughts are super hard hitting Elite choices. They are mortally wounded Marines that fight on from an armored sarcophagus. Your detachment size determines how many of them you can bring,
Interesting thought putting the extra magnetized weapons right on the base. That would be pretty nice if it looks good. Well definitely need a follow up once you finish painting/basing!
Awesome! Myself and two other friends just got into 40K and are starting a crusade army in the new 9th edition. It’s more narrative driven and You start with 50 power level so you’re not trying to buy, build and paint 2k worth of an army lol.
Ah the rabbit hole that is 40k...the setting that makes Watership Down look positive and cheerful... That being said I have an Imperial Fists siege army, and in the process of planning out a White Scars Primaris Army...
"Big 'ole Meat and Potatoes guns" I think that's the correct technical term for them. 40K has always been intimidating for me to get into because of the assembly and painting.
My wife is addicted to these things: she has 3 of them! She built 2 with the gatling cannon and 1 with the plasma. Priority targets for my Death Guard.
Great Kit, the central area is a life support "coffin" as the Space Marine was wounded in such away that they can no longer function as a Space Marine even with Bionic parts. I'd suggest getting the Space Marine Codex which comes out next week. But these guys are fine to play with your other Space Marines.
9:38 It is kind of like a coffin. He is only technically alive. He can't get out. No one can get Dairy Queen. Quick lore intro here ua-cam.com/video/S2o-LmI3kiE/v-deo.html
Welcome to the void. Lol. I just got into a Necron army. Lots of goodies on the way. Also, dairy queen is the least of the drivers worries. Check out some lore on them, lol. Its quite dark
My crusade army to start with is Indomitus captain Redemptive dreadnought 10 intercessors squad 10 intercessors squad 3 inceptors 5 hell blasters Spent 2 requisition points on my captain and going to increase my power level to get a librarian I think.
i always liked the original Dreadnought designs from Rogue Trader era. the design that came after that looks ugly to me. then GW redeemed themselves with his Redemptor Dreadnought. LOVE LOVE LOVE this design. highly recommend learning how to use handdrills to magnetize your 40K. that way you can swap weapons and gear to fit you army building. 40K's WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) rule is annoying and forced me to magnetize my 40K units.
Welcome to the space marines, brother. Don’t mind about the legality, is ok for casual play. However, before buying more play some games. Is a bit different from x-wing and SW Legion, and way more expensive. In the other hand, the lore, armies, etc are waaaaaay more deep and complex. I really love 40k, AoS, SW Legion and x-wing...and thats a problem, heheh In adittion, blue is for the Ultramarines chapter. Other chapters have other colours. Try google and, in adittion, newt weekend is the preorder of the new space marine codex, so you can pick it and learn about the space marine lore, chapters, heraldry, etc. (the codex is the army book, where all the information about the army and units is contained). Unfortunately he cannot go out...because he is almost dead. The Dreadnought are for wounded space marines (primaris marines) that are far away from recovery but refuse to die, so the are put into the Dreadnought forever, to be able to keep serving the Emperor through dead. Its a rare honor.
If you're interested in learning about 40K lore, I'd highly recommend checking out Luetin09's channel - he provides long-form (but meticulously researched and excellently produced) reviews and summaries of W40K lore...his channel is perfect to put on in the background as you're painting models. Other Warhammer 40K UA-camrs who cover lore that I listen to include 40K Theories by Remleis, Wolf Lord Rho and Chapter Master Valrak (the latter 2 also do 40K op/ed, videos IMHO). FYI, 40K Theories & Tactica Imperialis (who I've heard good things about, but haven't had the time to check out) also do a weekly podcast where they bring in a guest to talk 40K...once you get a handle on the game, it might be interesting to see if they'd be interested in having you on to compare 40K to other tabletop games like SW Legion, MCP, etc.
oh no....you got into marines? Don't get me wrong Marines are pretty much marketed as "my first army" but they also have a relatively powerful negative stigma in the fanbase. Lots and lots of salt. Recommend looking into magnetization, especially for larger models like this one. You will almost never want multiples of these but you could want a different loadout and while casual players generally dont mind if it isnt WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) more serious players will get huffy if the weapons arent right. Its not hard to magnetize larger models anyway. Also trust me theres significantly larger models lol. I play orks/admech/necrons, i have an ork Gargant which is 2 feet tall :D

Wat a legend ! Nice comment 🤣👍

I'm new to 40K too, building a blood angels army
I’m new to Warhammer too, and I’m building my black Templar army
Most important rule of 40k...."Rule of Cool" trumps all!
Rules are temporary, models are forever.
That's is something that apply mostly everyone who plays, except the tournament min-maxers...
Excellent point. I’ve always chosen my chapter or legion for lore purposes. Got my Sons of Horus for 30k and Black Legion for 40k.

I've been ropped back in to 40k after a 10 year absence. I kicked the habbit and now fell of the wagon...🤣
I'm probly going to be starting Tau this week end, I am promising them DQ if they win.
Even in death they still serve

Man, this game is so complex, but the minis are so cool
Never played 40k, but this guy does look pretty cool. I like the moving parts
Ive been out of the loop I didn't know you had got into 40k!
This dreadnoughts is one of the best primaris model IMHO
Another fine addition to your collection

Indomitus captain
Redemptive dreadnought

So you have to magnetize the lower arm part? Only one shoulder for wach arm?
I’m building a Grey Knight army how timely!
😎👍 Also..... Look at 40k
Cadian Imperial guard. They make great Merc Force in Legion. They
have Great heavy weapon kits an walkers !!!!!
I would magnetize the weapons
you still have to call the the primrose chapter . you promised :D
I'm interested but the magnets seem intimidating
No sadly the imperium of man does not in fact have a Dairy Queen nor dose other factions
Really cool model but kinda small for the price.
thats one big boi
Walking out - good one
Just badass that's all I have to say
Really nice!
Dairy Queen does not exist in the imperium of man or any other faction
I got to get me one of those
...cleanse the mutant, the heretic, the alien.
Welcome to the madness

bye.
You clicked on it bro. That’s on you.
Heresy!!!
Didn't read it tbf,
Dak Vesser but why do you avoid it?
