Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better. - Навчання та стиль
The jacket in this video was discontinued. The current version is here: carhartt.pxf.io/m57ykO
Everything carhartt is complete trash for anything construction fyi. They are basically the Walmart of outdoor or “working” apparel
@@mooch6666 😯🤦🏾♂️
bro, who threw that balloon at your nut sack?
this product seems to be perfect in hot & humid places in se asia. thx for the review
no size over 2x
I have their mid-level rain jacket. The Strom Defender Utility jacket that I use for work, truck driver. It keeps the rain off of me when I have to make deliveries in the rain. It's a decent jacket made well and the price was less than $100... Glad you took one for the team in water pummeling test...
probably the best review type channel on UA-cam tbh, always a super honest and useful review
That’s why we never wore rain gear in the Army. It would just hold in all your body heat and you’d be soaked in sweat. Not to mention you could actually become a heat casualty because of it.
Not if it was GORE-TEX
The ECW Goretex jacket and pants are great and you can pick them up relatively cheap from gun shows or surplus stores.
@@dennisdurham694 yup I have some myself. Got the whole uniform from eBay for around $60 GTX jacket and pants brand new from 2001
I remember the old GUMBY rubber rainsuit you are referring to. HOWEVER... thankfully the military has improved 👏 Now they have a fantastic Gortex coat and trousers that work and perform fantastic. Along with the new design and availability of combat boots you can be in a monsoon and remain dry and comfortable. The only draw back is that it is classified as a "Field Jacket"... not just rainwear. So it is for wear in the cold as well. Problem is it is not a heavy insulated coat . Therefore in conditions that are cold. It is by itself not that warm. But thankfully to that note. They now have some nice fleece pullovers and better thermal under garments. To allow you to layer in cold conditions. Reference to this coat he is speaking of. The military coat would be the direction to go. Purchase price is about half the price of the Carhart. With the money you save you can get the trousers and have a full suit. I purchased mine , even though it was a standard issue item. Just so I always had my own and it fit and I wasn't dealing with a issued set. Plus it made it mine and I didn't have to turn it back in and deal with that side of things. Definitely something you should look into if you're interested in this type of coat / rainwear.
The point of rain jackets is to hold your heat when its freezing rain. Its to prevent hypothermia. Its also supposed to dry fast.
Its not to keep your body bone dry. No jcket will do that in sustained storms.
In warm weather youre just supposed to put up with rain and be a fucking man.
Excellent video, once again! I do relate to your rain working story in the beginning - I have exprienced similar when working as a garbage man. Rain gear keeps off the rain, but makes you bath in your own sweat.
Hardcore motorcyclist definitely know all about gortex. It's the gold standard.
Excellent review and thoughts as always, Carl, thank you!
Have you ever heard of Ventile? It's got a long history with the British military. Made entirely out of extra long threads of cotton that have been weaved very tightly and expand upon contact with the rain, sealing any holes, making the garment effectively waterproof. Natural, breathable, durable and very quiet.
Pretty fascinating and expensive stuff.
Yep heard of it
Stotz etaproof is the same thing I’m pretty sure
Private White VC make their macs out of it, so you know it is excellent quality and yes very expensive.
@@jcm9356 yeah, I saw their ad and got curious so I bought their Lowry Mac. Ventile has this buttery smooth surface, extremely tight weaving, very breathable, but isn't as quiet as I thought. It's also prone to wrinkling (it's made of cotton after all) and having visible white marks.
Getting it wet is a big challenge, but once you get through the DWR layer, it will get stiff. Will I buy another? Very tempting but probably not because this quality coat will hopefully serve me for a decade or more.
@@g43654 Thank you for your mini review, you may have saved me £700+!
I've never had any luck with weatherproof products described as "breathable" ,I just accepted that if I'm wearing one then I'll only use light layers underneath
My two loves carhartt and gore tex products
I have a Carhartt WIP (I know, I know) x Rocky Mountain Featherbed water resistant down jacket. While I've never worn it in down pours it does shed light rain and snow keeping me warm and dry. Because it is a RMFB collab it has a cowboy vibe.
Awesome video! I may have to get one of these
Carl, you make a damn fine video. Keep up the excellent work.
Wow… you really went through a lot for us to make this video getting all those water balloons to the face 😂 much respected! I love your videos, I always check to see what you say first on pieces of work clothes I get! I love my blue collar wardrobe
Love your face expression with the cap
I have several Carhartt jackets and they’ve been great!
Good discount too for military, law, fire and EMS via their website.
0:25 Carl will sacrifice anything for his channel.😂
I’ve had good luck with Cabela’s Guidewear. It wears well and you can get the jacket and bibs for less than the Carhartt jacket alone.
the problem is will it hold up with time? because the guide wear is made for fishing not working.
Gosh I remember those cheap ribbed yellow rain suits with the cheap stretchy straps and cheap black plastic button loops, I used sweat like a pig in them, that is when they weren’t all torn up😂
excellent review, thank you
The military issued us gortex jackets with the same interior pockets one on each side starting in the mid 90's.
I have to wear FR clothing, my class 3 HRC 2 rain suit was about 1500 dollars. Paid for by the company of course
I have the number 1 warm rating super dux jacket and the #2 warmth super dux jacket along with the bibs and love them. Easy to move in. Would love this jacket!!!!
I work for a maintenance company that insists we were there cheap plastic coats. Even if it's cold you sweat. Love Carhart but have to were it when no managers are around.
Randomly found your videos this morning.
Holy crap its a dude doing cool guy work doing simple reviews on things I could use!
Well I’m sure glad you found this channel, and welcome!!!
Always a nice to do exploratory with a hydro ex truck or trailer, access permitting. Hand digging is a pain!
Like your reviews, but I always have to crank up the brightness when watching your videos
Shoulder pockets are great when wearing a tac vest
the pocket you talking about for the phone or wallet, next to the main zipper of the jacket, Peak did have a kind of hidden pocket there on alot of there older jackets :)
I have gortex rain fishing clothing that's 10 years old still works like new. Socked how much stuff cost now.
I have given up on “ breathable” clothing both cheap and expensive. I find if your active they only work reasonably well in a very narrow temperature range and I am wearing the right sort of clothing underneath to help wicking. Also, I have a regular hat sized head and have yet to find these integrated hoods ever fit comfortably. They always move about no matter how much I since them up and the peak always gets in the way and obstructs the view then there is the noise all these coats seem to have.
I have ended up wearing the cheapest Barbour light weight quilted nylon jacket they do. It does not get too hot, is baggy enough to let air flow and coated with a decent water repellent spray once a month in the wet months seems to keep me reasonably dry, especially in combination with an umbrella.
I’m with you . If doing anything the slightest bit active , hell or just being outside in the southern climate is enough. Gortex doesn’t really breath imo
Carhartt needs so make a GoreTex jacket that will actually hold up to real world work. That fabric is way too thin for work in forestry, the first briar and it’s either torn or punctured. I bought their j317 jacket (Ketchikan), 10oz cotton canvas and waterproof/breathable. It was a decent jacket in the Louisiana fall and winter, it at least kept the rain and briars out at the same time. Nothing is going to keep you dry and comfortable in the Louisiana summer, your either soaked with sweat or rain….
Unfortunately, it was discontinued and I can’t find another one.
At 0:04 I thought he was throwing something else at you, not a water balloon....if you know what I mean
I see you with that Pladra flannel Carl. I know this video is about rain gear, I saw the flannel you were wearing and well here we are. Do you roll up the sleeves to show of the scenes under the cuff or is it just something like you know its there?
Deadhead! ❤
We have a outlet store of carhartt where they sometimes put clothes for sell that where test objects or missed the quality standarts.. so i got a knee long coretex camouflage jacket for just 5 bucks best shit ever one out of one it was a test jacket that never made it up to production
Hi, I watch your videos and appreciate your opinion, I am fan of Carhartt clothing since I am 12 years old and in all my years working with water (Retired Window Cleaner) in New York City. Carhartt was the only clothing that actually cut the cold, wind and rain. I've been looking at this Carhartt Men's Full Swing Quick Duck Traditional Insulated Coat, 104468-N04 and I can't see any reviews on it, If you happen to know and/or have any opinions on it, Please let me know. Thanks for the videos and your opinion too.
Offshore tugboat work requires Grundens rain coats and bibs. I wish there were lighter weight options but I haven’t found any yet. Still open to suggestions….
I have a lot of their cold winter jackets BIG size
Props on the INCREDIBLE thumbnail!
HHaha thanks brother!
Shout out to tenacious tape and arcteryx and other companies repair branches
Looking like Jack Johnson on that thumbnail! lol I love it!!
Another top notch review. Any thoughts on decent denim and chambray shirts Carl (and Carl viewers)? Looking to invest in a good one as we head towards the autumn her in the UK. Keep the content coming!
Check out The Rite Stuff for chambray shirts: bit.ly/3QljFre
Denim goes from cheap to insanely expensive, but I’m personally looking at getting a pair from Samurai this year.
@@CarlMurawski cheers Carl, will have a look! I couldn't quite justify Samurai when I stocked up on selvedge earlier in the year. Hope we get to see a review 👍
My dad was a commercial fisherman. You have two options:
1. Be cold and wet
2. Be hot and wet
I figure it’s a trade off.
Do they have it in FR? I have the Men's Flame-Resistant Extremes Arctic Parka, which I believe had the same price point. That is a bad ass jacket in the winter.
Getting better with that hat toss, mate.
I have Four Carhartt Jackets now. I got 3 in the last Couple Months.
I'm running out of Room in my Closet and I still don't have a waterproof Jacket.
Not sure if they make it anymore, but I got my Cabela's goretex jacket with a lot of the same features for a sale price of about $190 4 years ago or so. Think it was normally 250 at the time.
Whats the difference between the carhartt goretex model # OJ6119-M and OJ4725-M
Got one for 80 bucks at Ross couldn’t pass it up
Bei weitem das beste Lukas video, sehr sehr ansehnlich.
Can the hood be folded into the collar??
If Carhartt isn’t paying you, they should be. Great videos!
I see Carl Murawski in my feed and I click
hey carl, for your issue in the beginning of the video a ventile jacket would have been much more affective than goretex. would love to see you talk about ventile and how amazing it is.
I'm totally open to trying it!
@@CarlMurawski my wife and i both love your content! one of our favorites to watch together. Private white VC has amazing clearances on ventile if you’re interested.
@@operamatthew damn dude that’s so cool!!! My wife and I like to watch some channels together too, I’m honored to be the one you guys enjoy together!
The color in black only?
😂 i have simillar experience from Scotland, during a summer job in forest, wet to the bone in rain gear, then taking it off, then being a target of midges. What a day 🎉
Comes with flag on sleeve?
what is your shirt size ?
The cheap ass Vikings brand rain jacket I was given at work has a lot of these pocket features and stuff, I like the features but the jacket sucks and they aren't done well.
It's also heavy because it's some kinf of polyester or nylon, it can only handle a little bit of rain.
I never had a complaint about Carhartt.
Outdoor research makes the best rain jackets imo and their Accent Shell material makes gore tex seem like a glorified trashbag.
They make nice stuff but only if you are 200lbs with a beer belly.
5’10 and 161lbs. Even a small looks and feels like a sleeping bag on me.
"the nature has a personal vendetta against you" AHAHAHAHAHA!! funny expression!
Love it best brand ever
"That price tag made me not want to wear it at work" this is me with majority of work boots. Im not wearing 300 dollar boots to destroy them at work.
I usually use Carhartt for work but when some stuff is expensive I don’t use it for work😂
Goretex is an expensive material but Carhartt Work In Progress has many jackets over 300$
they offer hardly anything over other 2 layer jackets i got one from rei for 118 and the only difference is no stretch panels thats fine though because its just patterned to not need them. not worth it
i got this jacket Alhamdulilah
very happy wid it
stylish too
never would i buy a arc tyrex
why??
this carharrt jackett will eventually be sold out and wont be re stocked therefore not many people will have it
whereas everyone will have an arxteryx
why would you wanna look like everyone else
the carharrt piece will end up being rare
secondly
the price point for a arcteryx jacket is not worth it what so ever
its just another temporary wave
My guys are boycotting carhartt.
He i was thinking it was a yukon jacket
Could you do a water test next time?
Basically a carhartt sitka jacket, they use the same concepts
come on now ... go to the Columbia outlet store
Did they make it mandatory to buy the jacket or to we have freedom to choose if we want it or not?
pick up an ex forces or police gortex for £20
No matter what marketing is used, you can't change the laws of physics..it doesn't matter how many or how small the holes it's still comes down to oil and water.
One of the many reasons I don't like synthetics.
Also it is way cheaper to make than they let on, and a higher profit margin as opposed to quality wool or alpaca goods.
damn, 800 dollars, for that you could get an iron heart suit of armour
over here it sets me back £ 740 Sterling. Basically double of the price. smdh !
Some Carhartt gear isn’t worth the plastic hanger it is hung on in the store.
Hello from the Netherlands. This kind of gear is an all year round requirement here. It rains more often than not. If it's more than 80 F outside just ditch the waterproofing you'll dry quickly. Thankfully that is less than 1 month per year around here so this kind of jacket is super useful. Don't wear waterproof gear in tropical climates, it's useless and does more harm than good.
There is no jacket on earth that will breathe fast enough to keep you dry if you are working hard. Goretex has been surpassed by other companyy's proprietary versions.
Carhartt's most expensive jacket isn't made in the US?
I found this jacket at a ross and bought it for $30 a day before I went camping, an amazing jacket for the price I got it for
I would never wear Carhartt. Rather burn it
This is too much for me. I like the thin ones you can layer.
No way, I have an Addict Clothing Co jacket that's almost exactly the same, tape seems, under arm zippers, the cuffs all the same. Panels almost the same too. Shocking, considering mine is at least 15 years old.
Great review, but refuse to buy from companies that force vaccine mandates.
I’m old enough to remember when carhartt made truly high quality - almost bombproof jackets and outerwear. My last carhartt was a disappointment. The elastic cuffs were fraying after a couple months of use - and were totally ripped within a year. Carhartt doesn’t make work gear anymore. They make fashion clothing.
Gortex is super terrible for the environment, if your going to get it KEEP IT FOREVER!
Is this the same company that mandated all there employees to get the Jab.?
They have this jacket at Ross for $70 to $80.
Just got this jacket at Ross for $22
Carheartt marks up there merchandise 300% so it wasn’t worth it unless you got it free
Pass on carhartt
F carhart
First
NO!
I will never get past the fact of the stance they took concerning their employees medical right to choose. Between that and their steady decline in quality with all the outsourcing, I’ll never even consider supporting this type of business practice.
Politics should play no part in product purchases. If you knew everything a company does or thinks you wouldn't buy anything. Politics is a total and complete waste of time, you will gain nothing from it but worry!
I wouldn’t wear it if it was free.
In a word NO. Nothing of Carhartt is worth it. Cheap fabrics. Cheap construction. Discontinued "proven good" products. I recently returned 4 pairs of Carhartt "heavy duty" 15oz cotton jeans. I had to buy the tapered legs as the straight legs are no longer made. All 4 pairs ripped out at the inner corner of the right rear pocket ON THE FIRST WASH! I never got to wear them. This defect has been complained about on Carhartt's site for years. When I called I was told "you are the first person with this problem." Not buying Carhartt ever again.
Every pair of pants I’ve bought only lasts 6 months. I rotate 4 pairs of double knee ducks. The crotch blows out at the most inconvenient time. Doesn’t matter which type. I switched to key pants and they are on 6 months rotating 2 pairs. They look perfect and fit great.
Also, I went the the actual carhartt store in Pittsburgh and was told they don’t sell work clothes…. Only outdoor clothes! WTF!!!!!!!
