I just heard that the drummer in this video, Charles Honeyboy Otis, died last August. I played with him in a band in the 90's (Lisa Best Blues Band). He was a really nice person as well as a brilliant musician. Played on many great recordings from the late 50's on. He is definitely missed.
I just learned that Carey Bell passed away.He was one of my mentors, his approach to harp playing and music in general had a great effect on me.R.I.P., Carey, you will be missed!
I had the honor and pleasure of opening for Carey as well as spending an afternoon together in 1997. He was a gracious and humble man. Carey had beautiful tone live-the upper registers had a flute like quality and the lower registers growled-this owing in large part to the way his rig was set up. A good man gone-I will miss him.
blues may have once been "black" music but from it has sprung most western popular branches of music. it is now a universal language spoken by a lot of people from many corners of the world. come top clarksdale mississippi and helena arkansas and touch the roots. you may get an epiphany.
Shure 585 SAV with volume controle i have one not very loud but a realy handy mic. love you Carey Bell RIP my brother now you're back with your old friends my man blowin harp with the angels.
@casu3 So you're telling me that Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Campbell, Eric Clapton and many other GREAT blues musicians were impostors because they weren't black? Yes, the Blues style music did originate from African-American communities. But it was the influence of the blues that made ALL blues musicians great. Not the color of their skin.
The blues are the roots, the rest are the fruits !
Can't get enough of this......i love it! Carey Bell was the best!!!

...very fortunate to have meet the man. His music was a great gift to us all that set a VERY high standard.
This is perhaps the best musical genre in the world: the blues. Just my opinion.

Carey and Big Walter are my favorite harp players. Junior Wells was great, but these two top him.
I like the bass woman :-)
this is the only music worth listening to. Carey smokes that harp
! Anybody know the bass player? I could listen to this over and over, all day long.
You don't miss your water til your well runs dry. The older bluesmen are goin away.
Thats nice ! Funkey !
The bass player is Queen Sylvia Embry.
great xD
Holy crap is that who I think it is on guitar ? nice
Man, he's sick with that harp.
@kabacco81 so what....?
I thought blues isn't about just composing a 12-bar-rythm, but giving your soul performing... Am I wrong?
NOW who's Honeyboy gonna outlast???!!! Buddy and Rick Sherry, I guess...
Noice!
the name of the song please
I met him in the 90s. He liked the Rolling Stones but didnt care for Jimi Hendrix. Said the shit he did wasnt real blues.
I love Paul Butterfield's music as much as anyone. But the idea that Carey Bell was copying from Paul Butterfield is a reach.
