Great video and tutorial of doing the concrete walls and steps you took to construct it. Always look forward to seeing your new videos on these amazing layouts you design! Thanks again Steve for sharing your videos with us along with your PRICELESS time and effort! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware USA.

😊I use lightweight spackle to fill wood grain. It’s easy to work with and sands to a smooth finish.
I think the key to representing concrete is that concrete isn’t any one color. It’s a mix of colors. Stipple on a variety of grays and tans with an old brush using very little paint.

    Nice weathering dude!
Definitely a motivator to start on my own N scale

Clever Steve as always but a lot of work it looks like to me, but I always learn something. Never thought of mixing paint and glue for instance. Thank you again for a great video

Nice enough, but I notice it’s a bit large in scale. It looks like it’s about the height of a three or four story building in the scale you’re modeling. I’ve seldom seen retaining walls that high in real life, except perhaps around a tunnel entrance (even then it’s about 2 1/2 stories max). I would have gone for a terraced slope (space permitting, of course).

Yes, it is over scale and such but nothing else I could really do. It looks better with no train in front of it. There isn’t much clearance there now, but a terraced wall would have looked a lot better and more interesting .

Nice vid, thx! At the end when you were talking with trains running, it reminded me that Unitrack can be kind of loud. I wonder if you packed foam or some other similar material into the cavity under the Unitrack if it would quieten down? Laser cut balsa may be a quick and effective solution. Would be easy to test.
Totally appreciate all your efforts in making and sharing. Thanks!!!
Cheers and keep up the great work,
    Coxy

Yes, that is a downside of unitrack. Especially since i have it right on the plywood this go around.

I have graffiti decals…I’ll probably add some eventually. And maybe some freshly painted rectangles to simulated painted over graffiti…

    Looks great Steve!! Well done.
What was the thickness of the plywood and how many passes did you need to make with the laser cutter to cut thru the ply? (I want to do the same thing on my layout.)
    thanks for posting...........AWESOME!

One pass on the laser cutter and it was 3mm thick birch plywood I believe. I actually just got my new package of that plywood delivered today so can start on the other walls soon.

Hey Steve, what is the software you use to make your track plans? I'm currently getting into making a Z scale Japanese layout and that would help out a lot.

what radius curves did you use for the bottom loop?

    • @StevesTrains
      @StevesTrains  Рік тому

9 3/4” on the inner loop and 11” on the outer.
