Was your reduced engine code somehow associated with rain, water? I replaced the throttle body and related sensors and the problem went away. For a little while anyways, but it came back shortly after, one thing I noticed. The reduced engine power code always showed up after a car wash or every time it rained. It is my understanding that there's a service bulletin from GM related to this fault.
This may help someone out there who lives in extreme cold. I had this and I know my throttle body is clean, because I cleaned it this summer. I live in Edmonton AB and just came back from Calgary AB. It is about -34°C today. The whole drive home I knew something was off with my car. It sounded off, and wasn't performing as well. I have a check engine light on all the time, but I figured I may as well check to see if any new codes came up. Yep. This one and a few others related to throttle body. Cleared code, came right back. Disconnected battery for 30 mins, came right back. So I decided that I may as well look at the actual throttle body. Believe it or not, there were small pieces of ice built up on it! I brushed the ice off, started it up, and it was back to normal! Reason for this comment is that I found no where at all, that this was even a possibility. So if you live in a frozen desert, and this has happened to you, check for ice! 🧊
-20°F here last night. Didn't even think of looking at the throttle body because I also knew it was clean. Saw your comment, looked, and saw the same thing. Knocked out the ice and we're back in business. Thanks for sharing!
the throttle body in my suburban with the 5.3 has a 1/4" coolant line built into the bottom of the throttle blades that runs hot coolant to the bottom side of the throttle body bore opening to prevent this. idk GM got rid of it on some models ater 06
2005 Chevy Cobalt 2.2 L Added some Lucas stop slipped to the transmission and the mil kicked on about 10 minutes later. Slight delay between pressing throttle and the engine revving. RPMs drop and the motor sounds like it is about to stall right before engine speed increases. I'm going to attempt to clean the throttle body and test the circuits before replacing. will edit this with future notes if I remember

I have 2003 Silverado 2500HD and it has them same problem with reduced engine power but I’m not sure if that causes the engine to shake when at a full complete stop
2003 Saturn Vue with 2.2L ecotec. Seems to be very moisture sensitive. No codes for 5000 mi from April to Early October, then several codes per drive after the seasonal rain started mid-October. (Pacific North West). Mostly P1271, P1275 . One time P1516 and P1512 after being parked all winter.
1516 & 2101 Codes on a 2010 Chevy Malibu 6 cylinder. Got message low power mode, turned it off - tightened battery cable and restarted it ran fine but when I got home these are the Codes I got- thus watching this video.

GMC Sierra 1500. Codes P1516 P2101 P0572. Have just recently replaced the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Wiped out the throttle throat, but did not disconnect.

I cleaned a upstream 02 sensor. Changed ignition coils and replaced ecm b fuse. All codes are gone, but now I have reduced engine power as well as p1516

This happened earlier to me (2013 Chevrolet Malibu) on the goddamned highway going 65 MPH and Overspeed warning Reduced engine power and engine light came on. I worked out how to safely get the car home, but I was lucky that I had a safe place to pull over for the car to crap out when it happened. It seems to happen around 3000 RPMs and returns to normal around 2k
I’m being given a 2003 1500 for free that has that error code every now and then, mostly when cold (I hear) 440K miles on it but still being used as a work truck. This is one thing I’ll check out and clean.
having this issue on my very clean for its age 2006 yukon denali lq4 with 140k miles. I had to replace the oil cooler lines and water pump, so while i was at it, i took the throttle body off and cleaned it for basically no reason other than I was convenient to do at the same time. now i have the code! haha I have gotten it twice. the first time was upon initial startup after pumping the gas pedal 5x with engine off to reset oil change monitor, it ran rough threw the code and reduced engine power message. Shut off and cranked back and it went away. Light went off. Second time i was on the interstate and got only the SEL, no rough running, it went away on its own. Well, im getting the code a few months and 5000 miles after taking apart for no reason, so not 100% sure its related. Im going to start troubleshooting by going back taking it back off cleaning again and reinstalling with extra care and attention to grounding etc.

2011 Buick Lacrosse CXS...car started idling a little wonky and showing signs of power loss in the performance. I replaced the throttle body/tbps and the spark plugs. Months later it started almost stalling at red lights at times until one day I got the "engine power reduced" message and check engine light along with a strong exhaust fumes smell through the vents. Online, there's a lot of talk about the Buick's timing chains issues. Not sure where to go next with this. Any advice would be helpful

2008 Pontiac Grand Prix V6 3800 series and shes tempermental. For over a year after cleaning TPS and replaced the gas pedal she worked. Now back at it again 🤦♂️. Live data shows everything works. Graph data shows smooth curve on acceleration. A total mystery at this point.
2003 trail blazer. P1515 & P1512. Ign off Pulled the plenum manually opened throttle. Heard a click. Hooked up scan tool and wife tool. Key on motor off instructed wife tool to apply quarter throttle. Throttle responded appropriately. Instructed wife tool to apply full throttle. Wife tool responded with argument 1; failure of mouth code 1. After resetting wife tool proceeded with physical tests. Proceeded to electrical TPS tests thru ALDL port. Full throttle command responded with 100% TPS. Part throttle command responded with 25% TPS and closed command responded with 10%. Start motor expect 10% cold TPS and 6% warm TPS. Stop and restart motor and redo tests three times. Remove duct tape from wife tool mouth.
Cleaning the throttle body on a 2007-2014 silverado/Tahoe WILL require a high-end scan tool with the throttle body relearn/idle relearn procedure. I learned the hard way. Got a check engine for TPS sensor, replaced tps and still got the code. Took off and replaced whole throttle body. Didn’t have a scan tool and the truck wanted to idle at 3400rpm. Not good. Can’t drive like that for it to relearn. MUST HAVE SCAN TOOL
You try pumping the gas peddle 5 times before start Turn key one turn pump peddle 5 times turn over and let it sit for a few seconds Might Rev high But computer will tell car and rpms should drop Give it a shot if you haven't fixed it Should work Worked for me in 2006 trail blazer
Nope..high idle doesnt last long. Run for 3 minutes turn off car. Turn key to on position for about 60 seconds. Start car for about 3 minutes again....idle will drop to about 1000 within that time.

Hi.. I have an 06 H3 Hummer that has these codes and goes into Limp mode only when its Hot out.. above 70* ... and only then, I can drive it all winter with no problems.. I just started it and it was fine till I got to the end of my drive and went into limp mode... I have already replaced the entire throttle body... no change.. I have these codes right now... the one issue I have had is that the sun roof leaked and put a lot of water inside the vehicle...for a long time ... any suggestions ? I have a 2009 Pontiac G5 4 cylinder the RPM raps out at 3-5 Grand I replaced the vacuum lines and bought a new throttle body and filter plus sensor and it still raps out I can't figure it out at all
2008 Pontiac G8 non GT V6. Took it off cleaned it , also replaced the sensor on side , ran great and 100% better . After 3 days driving it reduced power again. Not sure now.

Got a 02 escalade loss of engine power backfiring I throw lots of random codes but 1 consistent code p0178 fuel composition sensor low circuit well I have the 6.0 non flex fuel I've replaced all grounds I have good 5.v references replaced map ,maf, battery ,starter, throttle body had 1 coil pack bad replaced it still haven't solved issue can you help! 2014 Chevy Cruse 1.4 w/turbo automatic codes P1516, P2101, and P2176 Wiring from TB to ECM is good, replaced throttle body and it did not fix the problem.
Sounds like solenoid sensor on the left side of of engine oil flows threw this sensor also has small screen if any dirt from oil gets in it can also cause this problem but it won't be tb itself Just fixed my 06 trail blazer for the same reason same codes The screen it's self was torn and ripped replaced sensor.. possibly could of cleaned it if it was not broken But deleted codes started and ran like a top

Probably throttle body. Try cleaning it. Otherwise buy a new one. I've been having this code for 2.5 years. It's not a huge deal. I cleaned it. I just pull over and restart it and it's gone for a few days or weeks. Depends on how cold it is
2018 Chevy Trax. Reduced Engine power came on, I couldn’t go but 10 mph? I cut my car off and turn it back on. I made it home but the engine light is on now. First time this has ever happened and I just had my oil changed and Front brakes and tires rotated at stone less than a month.
My 2002 tahoe had reduce power message I replaced the TPS by the alternator no help. The scanner is coded p1221. I can’t purchase a new TOC. I have to purchase the whole throttle body for $500.00. Is there additional troubleshooting I could perform before spending that much?

2007 GMC Sierra. Reduced power mode. First the codes came back as PO69E, P2135,P2176. Cleaned the throttle body didn't work. Replaced the throttle position sensor on the throttle body didn't work. Now replaced the pedal position sensor and it went away for a few days but today went into reduced power mode and the whole engine just died in the middle of the road and wouldn't crank or anything. After 5 min it started right up. Now the same codes are reading above plus a couple more. P1516 and P2101 are now showing up with the other 3 codes listed above. I figured since I clean the throttle body, replace the throttle position sensor, replace the pedal position sensor, that the other codes would have went away but actually two more codes popped up after the truck when in reduced power mode and died.I'm beginning to think it's a sensor on my fuel pump which would mean the whole fuel pump might as well be replaced because the sensor is located in the gas tank.but why would all them other code still be popping up after I change the other two sensors? Any help would be appreciated.
Nope cant be gas it's more of a shortage at the wires ..check that I'm pretty sure that's ur problem I always see it after someone changes out there whole Tb and pedal sensor resulting w the same codes
@@codyarnold1411 Just a friendly heads up, it's common for it to work by replacing the body. It has a tendency to reconnect wiring from fucking with everything. I hope that was the issue and you fixed it, but if it starts acting up again, chances are it was the wiring at TB harness. Wish you the best, man.
@@neallott16 just the plug, on the TPS. I found my problem, which was a bad ground on the bottom of the motor. If you follow the wiring down the front of the motor, on the drivers side, there is a ground wire. Mine was broken. Attached a new wire and grounded it back to the battery, now the truck runs great.
I have a 2007 GMC Acadia and the car will loose power at random. I cannot accelorate,or get the car to go above 2000rpm's. Sometimes the car just dies.
My reduced engine power and 100 other codes thrown at the same time like Service ESC... WERE ALL Because of Chevy"s SHITTY Battery Cable coming loose on the negative terminal. Save your $$$ MONEY $$$ Replace the Connector to the Negative post on your Malibu Battery or do what I did. I shoved a regular (Not Jumbo Sized) metal Paper Clip between the battery post and the connector to tighten the connection. Works for now. I will keep you posted. :-)
Sorry about your your multiple lights, but in most cases one will set the other. I have replaced many throttle bodies on these vehicles with good results. But have also ran across a few out-landers. TPS sensor and or bad connections or wiring and ground problems.

I have changed the gas pedal as the throttle.
First working 15 minute normally,but My car,sometimes up high touchameter idle,but genetal normally working..maybe trottle sensör sometimes make ?...
I’m trying to figure this out on my 2016 Terrain. Idles around 2k then when driving gets worse and rpm sticks even higher

Do you or do you not need to get a relearn reprogram after having replaced the actual throttle? Mine just got worse

You are right! YOU NEED THE SCAN TOOL. IF YOU CLEAN IT AND STILL HAVING ISSUES ITS BECAUSE ITS NOT LEANED THE IDLE!!! This guy doesn’t know.

2019 Nissan Titan - code P2101. I replaced the air filter that was very clogged with dirt and some black soot and the check engine light disappeared.

I’m get a mixture of readings on my dashboard one of them is reduced engine power when I turn the car off and let it sit for a minute and restart the messages go away, but when it says reduce power, I’m getting the exact symptoms of what you talking about it barely wants to let me accelerate if I replace replace my throttlebody on my 2012 Chevy impala LTZ do I need a scan tool to reset it???

Hi.. I have an 06 H3 Hummer that has these codes and goes into Limp mode only when its Hot out.. above 70* ... and only then, I can drive it all winter with no problems.. I just started it and it was fine till I got to the end of my drive and went into limp mode... I have already replaced the entire throttle body... no change.. I have these codes right now... the one issue I have had is that the sun roof leaked and put a lot of water inside the vehicle...for a long time ... any suggestions ? The sensors under the seats ? or ?
I have a 2009 Pontiac G5 4 cylinder the RPM raps out at 3-5 Grand I replaced the vacuum lines and bought a new throttle body and filter plus sensor and it still raps out I can't figure it out at all

2008 Pontiac G8 non GT V6. Took it off cleaned it , also replaced the sensor on side , ran great and 100% better . After 3 days driving it reduced power again. Not sure now.

just happened today and got the code p1516 for my 2007saturn ion. a rep from auto zone pulled the code and when i start it up again the engine light is no longer on. going to get this fixed asap

Got a 02 escalade loss of engine power backfiring I throw lots of random codes but 1 consistent code p0178 fuel composition sensor low circuit well I have the 6.0 non flex fuel I've replaced all grounds I have good 5.v references replaced map ,maf, battery ,starter, throttle body had 1 coil pack bad replaced it still haven't solved issue can you help! Any ideas fuel pressure regulator maybe ?

Wiring from TB to ECM is good, replaced throttle body and it did not fix the problem.
Sounds like solenoid sensor on the left side of of engine oil flows threw this sensor also has small screen if any dirt from oil gets in it can also cause this problem but it won't be tb itself
Just fixed my 06 trail blazer for the same reason same codes
The screen it's self was torn and ripped replaced sensor.. possibly could of cleaned it if it was not broken
But deleted codes started and ran like a top

Hi I have a Chevy blazer 05 LS. And it’s under 0 degrees where I am... about 5 minutes ago I started my car gave it barely any time to warm up drove off and it resulted in this light coming on. What do I do? I know I didn’t let the car warm up enough.
Probably throttle body. Try cleaning it. Otherwise buy a new one. I've been having this code for 2.5 years. It's not a huge deal. I cleaned it. I just pull over and restart it and it's gone for a few days or weeks. Depends on how cold it is
2004 Silverado has the same issue showing code p1516 i don't know what to do

p2101 comes up, loses power but it sounds like one of the cylinders isnt working because engine "lopes" when it loses power. Is this common?

2018 Chevy Trax. Reduced Engine power came on, I couldn’t go but 10 mph? I cut my car off and turn it back on. I made it home but the engine light is on now. First time this has ever happened and I just had my oil changed and Front brakes and tires rotated at stone less than a month.
My 2002 tahoe had reduce power message I replaced the TPS by the alternator no help. The scanner is coded p1221. I can’t purchase a new TOC. I have to purchase the whole throttle body for $500.00. Is there additional troubleshooting I could perform before spending that much?

To me the pots look mainly dirty, so need some isopropyl cleanup and then a a contact lube for greasing.

2007 GMC Sierra. Reduced power mode. First the codes came back as PO69E, P2135,P2176. Cleaned the throttle body didn't work. Replaced the throttle position sensor on the throttle body didn't work. Now replaced the pedal position sensor and it went away for a few days but today went into reduced power mode and the whole engine just died in the middle of the road and wouldn't crank or anything. After 5 min it started right up. Now the same codes are reading above plus a couple more. P1516 and P2101 are now showing up with the other 3 codes listed above. I figured since I clean the throttle body, replace the throttle position sensor, replace the pedal position sensor, that the other codes would have went away but actually two more codes popped up after the truck when in reduced power mode and died.I'm beginning to think it's a sensor on my fuel pump which would mean the whole fuel pump might as well be replaced because the sensor is located in the gas tank.but why would all them other code still be popping up after I change the other two sensors? Any help would be appreciated.
Have you checked the wiring at the harness? The thin wires have a tenancy to break.
Nope cant be gas it's more of a shortage at the wires ..check that I'm pretty sure that's ur problem I always see it after someone changes out there whole Tb and pedal sensor resulting w the same codes
Ended up replacing the whole throttle body that fixed the whole problem.
@@codyarnold1411 Just a friendly heads up, it's common for it to work by replacing the body. It has a tendency to reconnect wiring from fucking with everything. I hope that was the issue and you fixed it, but if it starts acting up again, chances are it was the wiring at TB harness. Wish you the best, man.

You had to replace the wire harness?
@@neallott16 just the plug, on the TPS. I found my problem, which was a bad ground on the bottom of the motor. If you follow the wiring down the front of the motor, on the drivers side, there is a ground wire. Mine was broken. Attached a new wire and grounded it back to the battery, now the truck runs great.

My reduced engine power and 100 other codes thrown at the same time like Service ESC... WERE ALL Because of Chevy"s SHITTY Battery Cable coming loose on the negative terminal. Save your $$$ MONEY $$$ Replace the Connector to the Negative post on your Malibu Battery or do what I did. I shoved a regular (Not Jumbo Sized) metal Paper Clip between the battery post and the connector to tighten the connection. Works for now. I will keep you posted. :-)

Sorry about your your multiple lights, but in most cases one will set the other. I have replaced many throttle bodies on these vehicles with good results. But have also ran across a few out-landers. TPS sensor and or bad connections or wiring and ground problems.
