All Terrain vs Street Wheels - Evolve Skateboards Weekly Ep. 41

  • Опубліковано 15 сер 2024
  • This week we will help answer one of the most hotly debated questions in the Evolve skateboard community, which is better - All terrain or street wheels?
    Changing the wheels on an Evolve skateboard is quite an easy process. So in this video we will take you through how the two main types of wheels you can fit on an Evolve board, perform. We will be using two Carbon GTs - one fitted with the Evolve 83mm street wheels, the other with All terrain (AT) tires. We will ride both boards over a 11km circuit covering a variety of terrain such as road, path, cobbled pavement, tracks, speed bumps, grass, dirt and a very bumpy boardwalk. At the end of the ride we will give you a review on how the two wheel setups performed as well as covering how the different wheels affected the battery. This should hopefully give you some insight into choosing which wheel setup is right for your Evolve electric skateboard.
    As mentioned, the wheel setup on an Evolve board is something people are very passionate about - so at the end of the video we also feature some community input.
    The Evolve skateboards are fairly unique in the sense that they can be converted from Street setup to All-terrain setup (or as it's also known - AT wheel setup). The conversion can be done pretty easily with the Evolve street conversion kit or Evolve all terrain conversion kit. While the All-terrain / AT setup is limited to the standard AT and Off road tires, the street wheel customization selection is massive. We have listed some related Evolve skateboard wheel videos below, to help you find out more.
    The boards that can be fitted with both the all terrain and street wheels are the Bamboo GT, the Carbon GT and the GTX. Our older Gen 2 Bamboo and Gen 1 Carbon boards can also fit both types. The Evolve One is limited to street wheels.
    Which is your favourite wheel setup on an Evolve skateboard?

    AT all the way, that's the main reason I use evolve over other boards. The AT wheels are just so smooth over everything.

    Ep. 2 “Intro to filming your ride” is my absolute favourite weekly episode! Fred gives great tips on how to make a great electric skateboard video and, having always dreamed of making videos on an evolve board, I always find myself happy imagining myself riding one of these excellent boards filming myself making great content. Fred doesn’t say it, but the music in the video is so uplifting and happy as well, a very important factor for a great video. Good luck to us all!🤙

    You guys always make my favorite E Weekly videos! You do a great job of setting up good testing spots and making things equal. I ride the AT wheels so that I don’t have to worry about every crack and rock in SF as well as up in the county on the mountain roads! But after watching this vid I am a little more motivated to get the 107 wheels and try them out! Thanks for the sweet footage!

    “How far will it roll” is my favorite evolve weekly because it tests a lot of different situations in skateboarding and it’s about electric skateboards so yeah.

    The episode 41 for me is the favorite because I understand the differences in the use of road wheels compared to those for all terrains; I was interested in understanding what was the best solution in my case, using it mainly to move from one garden to another to follow my crops and also to carry out door-to-door deliveries.
    I think the wheels for all terrains are the best performing solution in my case.
    Thank you!

    Another great video guys! I think it's great that the Evolve boards have so many wheel options to suit your personal tastes. It's also cool to see that a lot of people use ESK8s to commute to work! Cheers, John ;)

    I tightened up the trucks and still had some pretty good oscillations in ECO mode at full throttle. You get better milage and battery life with the street wheels.

  • @claydellacava1673

    After having the street grounds, 107's and AT's, the 107's are pretty awesome for everything except they are heavy. I don't like that the AT's don't roll well but they are very comfortable and easy to ride if you don't know where you're headed (street conditions). The traditional 97 wheels are fast and corner so well but a bit scary for urban free riding. I'm gonna try the 6" AT's next. The magic solution is two boards; a carbon with street wheels and a bamboo with AT's IMO.

    Now that evolve have come out with a new remote, it may be worth it. But already have a Boosted Board. Love my Boosted Board but range isn’t very good. I heard you can get over 30 miles on the gt sometimes.

    I just changed from AT wheels to the 83mm street wheels. Having a problem with oscillations (wobbles) with the AT wheels. The street wheels were a lot better. My son took a spill with the AT wheels. He said it threw him off, luckily he was wearing a helmet, long sleeves and jeans. I was right behind him but was looking the other way.

    • @tyronekim3506
      @tyronekim3506 6 років тому

      frankmmiii How are your bearings on your AT wheels? Larger wheels are going to create more stress on the bearings than smaller wheels - think of it as a longer lever arm on bigger diameter wheel against the bearings, especially on turns, causing the bearings to wear out faster or fail. The lever arm is the distance between the axle and the wheel on the ground. The fulcrum is the bearing. The load is also on the bearing. During carve outs, the lateral force is going to create a lot of torque to bend the axle but the axle is not going to bend and the bearings will take the brunt of that force, the force of the weight of the rider plus the lateral force(torque). This is going to cause the bearings to wear out faster. You need to get heavy duty bearings on bigger wheels. Good luck.

  • @batmaninuhland

    I agree. I ordered the 2in1 AT and 83mm 76a, also the 97mm Evolve GT Wheels. With AT Wheels I have to charge my Carbon GT every day. With 83mm 76a once a week. 97mm Wheels need more energy, too. So my favorit wheelset became the 83mm 76a because of the huge distance of more than 50km with one charge.

    I have a GTR Bamboo with AT wheels that are awesome. The comfort advantage and grip is a no brainer but what am I missing out on by not having the street wheels ? ( specifically the Abec 107s) How would they improve your riding experience apart from rolling on, and better range ?
    I love carving on the AT wheels. Is carving even better on the 107s ?

    It is so hard to choose! i was 100% AT for freedom, and then i bought the 107 abec.... and they are so awesome! if i had to choose, and with a bigger battery, i think i would always have AT on.

  • @how4knez

    Should've had this comparison many videos ago, I would've never gotten the 97mm street wheels kit for my carbon AT. I do recommend the 107mm street wheels for clearance and better distance. Again, I wish Evolve would update the remote for the 107mm wheels and offer a belt cover that fits.

    • @how4knez
      @how4knez 6 років тому

      Awesome, waiting for the belt covers to come in the mail. I used the 32t from my 97mm street kit and the torque and braking seemed fine, guess it's good to have more stopping power with the 38t.

    If only you could try BOTH the Bamboo and the Carbon. I got the Bamboo because of the familiarity of a flexible deck. I didn't want to risk hating a solid deck... But I REALLY wonder what it would have been like.... =/ Wish they sent a demo board to the local supplier so I could at least try before buying. I've had the Bamboo for ONE day now and it's awesome. Especially in AT mode. But I hear the Carbon really shines in AT mode?!?! Ugh.... Wish I could have tried it

    Can you ride along gravel roads with the AT wheels without being shaken too much? Or would this be too uncomfortable after a couple of minutes?

    • @evolveSkateboards
      @evolveSkateboards  6 років тому +3

      Hey there it depends on how rough the gravel is and how comfortable you need it to be . Check out this video we made the other week of off road riding - ua-cam.com/video/09styZta7Zc/v-deo.html Ant & Clint rode for over an hour on gravel & nothing but big grins.
      Also stay tuned for our next video that drops in about 10 hours time that'll have plenty of gravel riding fun so you can see what other riders are doing off road!

    Q. How far can the Evolve go non stop before you have to let the motors cool? i'M 50 years old and ride the Koolwheel. Love it. Can go about 6 miles before i need to let it cool. When the hubs get too hot the speed reduces. I ride just for fun, getting out. Not to comute. Stopping every 6 mile sucks..I would love to get the Evolve but i realize every board that says it gets 22 miles(Koolwheel) I realt gets 10 nice miles and 3 very slow miles then done.13 miles total. So I asume the Evolve (30 miles) wil realy get 15-18 miles. but how many mile can it get with out stopping before it burns up? mike vose

    • @mikedv39

    • @mikedv39
      @mikedv39 6 років тому

      I thank everyone for the feed back. This helps me on what to up grade to (from my Koolwheel) to something that will get me farther with out the wories of cooling time. When i see riders in NewYork, San francisco, Australia and so on, their rides are in the city. Starbuck stops, Restruants and more. I have Neighborhoods 10 mile from the closest hang outs. So i need the long ride just to get anywhere to stop charge and hang out. Your testing the Eboards that others do not have yet helps on what we are looking for so we don't have to go $1,300 for the board that's not what im needin then have to get a nother. So Keep up the testing we appreciate it. Thank you Mike Vose

      Hey bro, make sure your remote is set for V2 software. With the remote (only remote) turned on, double tap the left button. Once your in the other functions screen scroll down to "More Info", tap right button to select. You should see that it says Product ID: at the top. Now double tap right then double tap left. This has to be done pretty quickly. At the bottom of the screen it should say "Protocol:V2. If it say V1 then double tap right-double tap left quickly. Then turn off remote and try and re-pair. Hopefully this works, if not Evolve service can help you for sure. They are the best.
