I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: phlearn.com/aa...
Scale Pattern into Place
Start by scaling and rotating the pattern into place. In this example, we also invert the pattern to change colors by pressing CTRL/CMD + I. Make sure to make the pattern a bit larger than the piece of clothing so it can be warped into place.
Use the Pen Tool to Cut Out Clothing
It is important to have an accurate cut out of the clothing, so the pattern looks seamless. In this example, we use the Pen Tool to cut out the original shirt. Create a pen path around the clothing by clicking and dragging to create curves.
After completing the pen path, right-click and turn it into a selection and feather the edge by 0.5 pixels. Next, load the selection as a layer mask for the pattern, making it only visible where the original piece of clothing is.
Liquify the Pattern to Fit the Clothing
To make the pattern look like it flows with the fabric, it must be warped into place. Use the liquify tool to bring in the edges of the pattern, making it look like the pattern wraps around the piece of clothing.
To re-create folds of fabric, use the freeze mask tool to paint over one-half of the fold. Then use the forward warp tool to push the pattern under the freeze mask. If done correctly, it will look like the original pattern curves around the folds of fabric.
Add Highlights and Shadows from Original Photo
The last step is to blend the pattern into the original image. In this example, we change the blend mode to ‘Multiply’ and lower the opacity to 90%.
Next, add shadows and highlights from the original piece of clothing. Duplicate the background layer and place it on top of the fabric layer. Right-click on the layer and select “create clipping mask”, then change the blend mode to ‘Multiply’.
To add highlights, duplicate the background layer and clip it to the fabric, just like the previous layer. This time set the blend mode to ‘Screen’. If needed, adjust the brightness of this layer by using a Levels adjustment - CTRL/CMD + L. Drag the black point slider to the right until the layer only appears over the highlights.

Did you know there is a lot more to PHLEARN than UA-cam? phlearn.com/more
Aaron is hands-down the BEST Photoshop instructor I've seen. I've looked all over for tutorials and nothing comes close to Aaron and Phlearn. Great techniques, great sense of humor - just all around first class!
Well done - love the videos.
This is by far the most useful photoshop tutorial I've ever found.
Thank you for this great tutorial. This will give me the push to start adding my designs to clothing and other items.
Great job - about six months' trial and error avoided by watching one video! Much appreciated.
This is far and away the most superb Photoshop tutorial I have ever seen. Fantastic work! You've gained an acolyte!
I GOT INTO COLLEGE BECAUSE OF YOUR VIDEOS THANK YOU DUDE
If anything Aaron you keep showing me over the years is just how powerful Ps is. That freeze mask tool was awesome.
So great! I find most photoshop tutorials so hard to follow but this was perfect! Thanks!!
Great job teaching this skill and explaining so well what each of the steps does. The synopsis of the steps at the end was very as well.
Amazing Tutorial. Best Part is that he explains it without rush and also in the end he explains the process step by step! Loved it! Thanks a Lot Aaron!!
Every one of your videos is fantastic and easy to understand. People that disliked it must be sick. Great tutorial, keep up the great works. Much love from Cambodia
The way you use the pen tool is just amazing.
Very helpful tutorial! Just a note to anyone who may be following along now, make sure the pen tool is set to 'Path' when making selection
I am so greatful that you upload so many cool photoshop tutorial that brings color to my life!!!
*big thumbs down on this one.* you could use displace filter for fabric distortions but, seriously, absolutely a simple double click to bring the highlights in from underlying layer through blending options, with perfect control and realistic rendering. No extra layers, perfect outcome. Multiplying shadows on an already multiplied pattern is again plain wrong flol. Wonder what you smoked during this one, because your other tutorials are, smoking ;) greetings.
Your lesson was very helpful, like how you review/summary at the end of the video
I have a four-year degree in graphic design and THIS is the most helpful thing I've ever seen. Thank you
Deadly! I love your videos..... and I'm a photosho starter and have learned loads from you so far! .... your videos are brilliant! Hello from Dublin Ireland!
Aaron, you the UA-cam man. Perfect instructor, humorous but educational.
Fantastic! Best content of its type on UA-cam, thanks so much.
As usual, your videos are detailed, yet easy to follow and each step is clearly outlined and communicated. Your pacing is also perfect and it's so easy to enjoy watching since you clearly have fun using photoshop. Thank you for posting these up.

Your video is very good for me. You are good teacher and very good man. Thank you very much.
This is the best tutorial for this topic of all UA-cam!
Just want to thank you for all the time you take to put these videos together, and hope that your are suitably rewarded. I have to wonder what might motivate anyone, ever, to give you a thumbs down.
Also wonder if it might be appropriate to demonstrate how to recover lost or erroneously deleted work, if this is possible??

Thank You For This Lesson ... I Love It
I always knew this could be done, but thought it would be way beyond my level! Thanks for helping make the seemingly impossible (for me) possible!
Aaron! you are the man!! thank you for your lessons!!
Your camera is awesome! So clear! Are you using a Redcam? Or is that really just HD video uploaded with little compression?
Quick tip: I saw the outtakes an remembered a lesson on a speech class. Before recording a session, imitate the sounds that a horse do. Not kidding. Hold your breath and do the brrrrrr sound a couple of times. Have a wine cork around, bite it and talk a bit using it. That way you can work out your mouth muscles and "sync" them before the shoot. That way the tongue won't get in the way of the speech :)
Great video. !
amazing sir, you have helped me a lot in progressing from a beginner to an intermediate level photo-shopper.. and i bet i will become an expert one day just because of you..
Great tutorial! I always come here when I want to learn something new about photoshop, so glad I subbed :)

you made it look pretty easy, thanks
Youre a very good instructor and your tutorials are awesome, thank you for them!
Aaron is doing magic again. :) Awesome.
PRO PS TIP: 2:40 -- Copy the newly sized pattern image (CNTRL/CMD + J), move it near to where you want the repeating to occur, change the copy layer's Blend Mode to DIFFERENCE, zoom in so that you start to see pixels, select Move Tool and use arrow keys until all that you see is black. Change Blend Mode to NORMAL. Zoom out and repeat if needed. Shift-click to select all pattern copy layers and the original pattern layer then hit CNTRL/CMD + E to merge them into one layer. IMPORTANT -- DO NOT change the opacity at any point during this process! Continue Phlearn tutorial as normal.
***ALWAYS SAVE OFTEN!***
Wow! Thank you, San Val, for that excellent tip! But why must one not change opacity during this process?
Because otherwise it wouldn't turn into black
Nice tip,San Val. That's the technique you use every time you need to align a duplicated object with the original?
Caio Xavier Yes, Works wonders
uh yeah, go make your own tutorial.LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
The best Trainer ever
Thanks, Phlearn. After all these years of using PS I didn't know you could right click the pen tool to convert the path into a selection...and have the option of feathering it too! It's a time saver versus having to go to the paths menu to begin that process.
cmd+enter (on a Mac) does the same but without the option of having a feather. I don't know what the shortcut would be on a PC, but I assume CTRL+enter
Hey Aaron! I used a couple of your tutorials and came out with this picture. By using this I would love it if you could give me tips to improve as well. :) - Toby
Wowww ... finally you given me that i want ...thanks sir ...
fantastic👏💜 I always love your videos
Awesome video and tutorial.
to automate this for multiple patterns non-destructively using a smart object, you can use puppet warp and it's push/pull pins front/back to simulate the in front and behind fabric folds.
This was amazingly helpful, thank you so much 😁
Yours tutorials are amazing!
Amazing as aways. Thanks Aaron! Hugs from Brazil!
this cloth texture wonderful
Thanks it works almost for everything. I tried to make a camo for a gun and it works. Thanks
Outstanding. This just might save me some money.

Best tutorial ever.
Another amazing tut. This technique can be used in other situations, I used this method to make a Tissue paper mockup and it worked great in a quick turn around time. thanks!
very nice explanation ....also i need fabric print design in photoshop..Thank you
Aaron your tuts are amazing!!! I'd like to request two more that might be cool.
1) A tut on how to remove facial features seamlessly (for example, the mouth or nose) and make it look natural
2) A tut on changing skin tone to pure white and still look natural with shadows and highlights.
I just thought they would make awesome tuts :) Thanks in advance for considering them!
