    Nice mods! I have the same smoker with no mods and it works great for me stock. I have a tiny bit of leaking around the lid but very little. Love smoking with it. I did build a charcoal basket which gives me hours of smoking without have to do anything.

      That's great on the charcoal basket, I use very little charcoal now, I use mainly wood.

    I just bought a Highland and am looking at what mods make the most sense before I assemble it. You need to create a dimensional plan for that collector and stack. I love it. I'm a graphic designer and would be glad to create it for you in return just for a copy of it. Maybe you can make a few bucks with it . . .

      Someone else told me I could probably make some money off this design as well. I will have to think about it.

    You would think the manufacturers would take notice that they can build better products if they would just watch what their customers do.

      @@killintime7408 Funny thing. I bought the smoker used and was so anxious to do the mod, that I never used it before the modifications. Lol silly I know. This is my first offset, and it's taken a few smokes to get the hang of it, but I'm getting there. I was looking for you on fb or IG to send you a pic.

    After building the stack & collector mod it runs better without a basket

    • @killintime7408
      @killintime7408  2 роки тому +2

      I still use the basket because I am able to get longer burn times with more coal and just keep adding wood to the top of it. I can usually get a 4 to 5 hour burn before I have to add anything to it.

    I'd have to see this 250 across the board to believe it. No water pan or steam injection makes me wonder.

    • @killintime7408

      @@killintime7408 Only reason I say that is that OK Joe's are notorious for hot spots and spike all along the grates. There is a steam injection mod that a guy up in Canada recently did to his that is about as amazing a mod as I have seen with even cooking temps. His channel is called Smoke Trails BBQ.

    Nice Hiland!! I’m just bought a used one and am building a baffle plate out of 3/16” for it now. Really like your collector and stack setup, what are the dimensions on it?

    • @killintime7408
      @killintime7408  Рік тому +1

      Dimensions are 11" wide at the smoke chamber by 5" tall and 9" out from the smoke chamber and the Side by the stack is 6" wide.

      @@killintime7408 thanks bro! I ran mine to burn off that baffle I built and couldn’t get it to hit 200 but I’m at high elevation and it was 20 degrees that day. Took the baffle out and it hit 250. Gotta play with it more and see how it runs in the summer. Gonna weld the firebox to the main chamber , the firebox seam and then gasket the lid. Then most likely do a collector and stack to improve the flow like yours Happy cookin!

      At the cost of steel right now to purchase all the steel for a complete build, would have cost me at least $1500. With purchasing the OKJ and making The Mods I am only into this for $460. When Steel prices come down I am contemplating building one from scratch.
