USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) is the third Wasp-class amphibious assault ship of the United States Navy.
Kearsarge's keel was laid down on 6 February 1990[3] at Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation of Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Ingalls built Kearsarge using efficient pre-outfitting and modular construction techniques. Hundreds of smaller sub-assemblies, containing piping, ventilation ducting and other hardware, as well as major machinery equipment, generators, and electrical panels were constructed. The sub-assemblies were then joined with others to form assemblies, which were in turn welded together to form five completed hull and superstructure modules. These giant modules, each weighing thousands of tons, were joined on land to form the completed ship's hull. The result of this early outfitting was a ship that was over 70 percent complete at launch.
She was launched on 26 March 1992, in a ceremony attended by then-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell. The warship was christened on 16 May 1992, and commissioned on 16 October 1993.
The assault support system on the ship coordinates vertical and horizontal movement of troops, cargo and vehicles. A Monorail system, moving at speeds up to 600 ft/min (3 m/s), transports cargo and supplies from storage and staging areas throughout the ship to a 13,600-square-foot (1,260 m2) well deck, which opens to the sea through huge gates in the ship's stern. There, the cargo, troops and vehicles are loaded onto landing craft for transit to the beach. The air cushion landing craft can "fly" out of the dry well deck, or the well deck can be flooded so that conventional landing craft can float out on their way to the beach.[4]
Simultaneously, helicopters can be lifted from the hangar deck to the flight deck by two deck-edge elevators and loaded with supplies from three massive cargo elevators.
Kearsarge's armament suite includes the NATO RIM-7 Sea Sparrow point defense system for anti-aircraft support, RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles, 25-mm chain guns and the Phalanx close-in weapon system to counter threats from low-flying aircraft and close-in small craft. The LHD may be a "small" carrier relative to the new Ford class, but it's still 840 feet long. Only 30 feet shorter than the WW2 carrier of the same name. And a bigger displacement than the WW2 ship by about 5000 tons.
I also reacted in the Word ”Invades”! Why use this doomsday kind of expression? It was a friendly visit in Stockholm! The ship later participated in the yearly ”Baltops” exercise in the Baltic sea together with 15 other nations. The purpose was to strengthen the capability to cooperate between the nations involved.
"INVADES" is the right expression for the Swedish people, this is a bigger issue for us Swedes than many people think, the "negative word" is more about what the visit represents. +70% are against NATO here, we do not need NATO. We have not been asked if we want to join and we are not afraid of the Russians. We have been at war with them, on and off, since the 14th century. This visit also represents how our corrupt politicians look at the Swedish people, they only care about future career opportunities. Sweden is not a democracy any longer.

Impressive ship class. I was just aboard her sister ship Essex in the Port of Los Angeles. They were giving public tours as part of the US Navy's Fleet Week celebration during our Memorial Day weekend.

I saw a video of Swedes cheering on when this boat sailed thru the archipelago. It's almost as if the husband and his friends cheered on the nobleman when he demanded "Droit du seigneur". As former Navy ....There was a time when BOSON's went over the side in sling chairs to chip rust and swab some paint on rusted areas of the ship's hull. Especially prior to coming into a foreign port. Guess that tradition is gone as well. LET'S GO BRANDON!

Likely is put there, as is-where is, without a recent major dress-up job in a US port, to deter RU from attacking Stockholm, at least, and Sweden generally, for fear of hitting that ship or US mil personnel. They ought to be openly scattered up along posts on/near the RU border on friendly observation missions, too. The Rooskavitchski can't want even a small scale a conventional war with Mercah over Sweden-Finland while they're getting trounced, relative to UKR's lesser strength & equipment, by the underdog UKR.
Also, if I lived in Sweden or Finland or the Baltics, I would love to see the Stars & Stripes and some Yanqui firepower paying peace-time port and air base calls -- all the time, from now till RU backs out of the UKR and stops badgering Sweden-Finland-Baltics.... You will be surprise how the sea salt rust metal very fast. The USS Kearsarge is been out to sea since March 2022, of course it will look old and rust very fast.

I believe she is quite old, I believe her first maiden voyage was 1994. I was lucky enough to visit her when she was in Malta back in 1995.
