- Michigan’s Lake St. Clair “Mile Roads” area has become legendary as a world class smallmouth fishery during the spawn. Hundreds of anglers from across the country travel here each spring to take advantage of the “Catch and Immediate Release” season. Kim Stricker presents his underwater survey, informative observations and lure recommendations during this period.

I remember when there was no fishing for them when they was spawning. I’m blessed enough to live a twenty minute drive from the lake. The biggest change I’ve seen was a massive die off that happened awhile back a lot of 5 pound bass was lost there’s definitely plenty of fish still but 50 fish days don’t happen as easy as it did
talk about living a dream!Your footage is the very best EVER.Thanks for the experience!
I use to put in usually in Algonac and fish a few good spots I know in the channels. Then make a run to the mile roads when fishing slowed. I actually won my first local paper trail tournament from the back of the boat off the mile roads. What a Great video, especially the spawning smallies !! Bill Lindner, stop salivating buddy !! LOL !
Launched out with you this morning at the lighthouse. Great content!
Good to see ya back Welcome to my Home waters
I consider Lake St. Clair my home waters as well!
I regularly fish the mile roads, couldn’t of put it better myself! Great video!
Excellent video on smallys !?? Fished the mile roads myself. Awesome underwater footage of mating bass .
Glad you enjoyed it! 👊
EXCELLENT video! I subscribed and please keep em coming.
You got it, will do! Thanks for subscribing and please tell your friends!
My (home) office window overlooks the bay at metro beach. Guys fishing on top of each other every spring for weeks. The fish have no lips left after being caught 100 times off their same beds over and over.
Amazing video. Dumb question though....what are the dates for this catch and immediate release season?
Btw liked and subbed.
All year here in Michigan! Thanks for watching.
wow awesome informative video! Crazy how they are oblivious to your presence / camera
what is it about the mile roads that is unique from other areas of the lake with similar depths, that makes this the breeding ground?
Personally, I think it's that the area has two very distinct drop offs. With water at three different depths it provides lots of what bass like.
Grew up 5 minutes west of the foot of 10 mile. Used to catch huge pre spawn large mouths from shore. Did the right thing and threw them all back.
Awesome! You da man! Thanks for watching.
I live three houses from the shore, two streets south of eleven mile. Early in the morning, I've seen so many bass boats at the foot of eleven mile that you could not count them all! A far cry from fifty plus years ago when keeping any fish from Lake St Clair was illegal. It was so bad, that for a while that they didn't even issue fishing licenses.
It’s world-class now! Thanks for watching.
50 years ago the only thing people caught were sheepshead and they used to promote culling the heard.
Man if you could only catch musky during spawning or any other underwater footage would be amazing! I'm hitting the lake all day tomorrow I'll let you know if I get a fish netted!
cool
I live at 10 mile and Jefferson, 30 seconds from Lake Saint Clair.
Near Lakeside Fishing Shop?
So how long is the catch & immediate release season? Can't you catch and release ANYTIME outside of the regular season? What if you claim your Cod fishing and accidentally catch a "Smallie" and release it outside of the catch and immediate release season. Would a fish cop getcha?
I’m a st Clair guy.. it just means no dilly dallying with the fish in the boat, no keepers, no livewell pics, stuff like that, just what it says, catch and immediate release, or us musky guys call it CPR.. catch photo release, and it’s open all year long but ethics do come into play especially with Muskies, I myself and ALOT of st Clair guys won’t fish musky until the first Saturday in June, even though technically you can fish for them all year.. it all comes down to protecting the fishery and the species specifically, smallies are very resilient so it’s not unethical to catch and release during the spawn THEY WILL BE FINE! Lol.. While muskies are very sensitive and stress out while fighting and being out of the water, we just don’t mess with them during their spawn, and that’s to help the fish and their future on this lake..
@@kylemurray7086 Well said Kyle! I wish everyone felt as strongly as you and Kim Stricker do about the treasured fishery that IS Lake St. Clair. May it thrive for all eternity!
@@kylemurray7086 I wonder how Mike Thomas would feel about your opinion on out of season, cpr musky fishing.
@@fishnlift01 Did you read the part where I said “I myself and ALOT of st Clair guys WONT fish musky until the first Saturday in June”?
@@kylemurray7086 I did. I also read your explanation for why you wait. Just curious if someone who studies fisheries would feel the same.
When you going to do your bluegill show
Working on it now Michael! Give me a couple days. Thanks for asking.
Many people do not have a problem fishing post spawn smallmouth beds but I have always been concerned for this fishing since removing the male bass guarding the beds (even for a brief period) allow predators like crappies and sunfish to attack the nests and remove fry. According to the Michigan Fish and Wildlife they have not seen any negative impact from this type of fishing. But are those studies really credible in the short term study? I have grown up fishing the Great Lakes (Lake Ontario) for 60 years and watched the fishing resource improve greatly during that time. It is something to consider.
Thank you for contributing.
I just want all of you to know that Jesus loves you so much that He died for your sins on the cross so that you may be forgiven...
Hail satan
not a fan of spawn fishing
Spawn fishing is disgusting legal or not. It's illegal in Canada but in the US they're more concerned with money...even with catch and release some fish will die or be badly injured depending on how they are caught and then there's the people we all have seen keeping fish illegally while all the eggs or fry get picked off. Disgusting that this is encouraged
