No one understood why I was so upset at work when I heard that the cathedral was on fire………we studied this building in my art class way back in 1973. It is a masterpiece ❤. The restoration is coming along beautifully. Praise God. I am so happy for the people of France! 🇫🇷
It brings tears to my eyes to see all of the people come together to rebuild this beautiful ancient cathedral. The carpenters, artisans, painters etc.. These people contribute so much to the world we live in. To bring rebirth to what was almost completely lost is so heartwarming to see. This was a monumental & dangerous project. God Bless all those who bring hope, create beauty and make life a little more special with their hearts and talents. 🥰

Ironically, the fire probably ultimately saved the cathedral. Prior to the fire, the cathedral was falling apart, in dire need of restoration. There were sections of stone that had fallen of, replaced by plywood. The restoration work happening at the time was not keeping pace with the need. The fire resulted in a level of restoration and rebuilding that probably wouldn't have happened otherwise.
You are quite true : Notre Dame was in a terrible condition before the fire (I live in Paris, and each time I walked by the Cathedral, I could not help thinking it required an urgent restoration…)
