it is an idea to place a rubber bumper against the wall where the feed mixer is located. Then the feed mixer can be positioned closer to the wall without damage, making it easier for the loader to load.
Excellent video, feeding must be almost a full-time job by the time you've also moved feed from the bunks and opened bales. Your farm is a credit to you and your team.
Very interesting watching load ingredients. Notice they very precisely allow just the right amount of each ingredient to drop into the loader. Thanks for the great video. Appreciate you took the time and effort to show so much detail.
Do you ever add water to any rations, and do you ever feed unusual byproducts such as candy etc? I saw one dairy that was feeding skittles, I assume they were rejected
I've thought about trying that, but we need the mix time to size the baleage. We could only premix 4 ingredients because the rest is wet feed, we might get a little more accurate but I don't think it would save us much time.
In the high production pens we feed earlage instead of ground corn. Earlage is a little more economical for us. Ground corn is more consistent so we feed that to the close up and fresh pens to keep those rations very consistent.
@@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047 nice and why does half your video not have noise where your helper is loading the tmr mixer I can't here the loader or tractor running or the mixer running
how do you adjust the rations when there is to much left-over? Especially when its a rainy day, your corn and alfaalfa will be much wetter. If you change then procentially the dry products are changed to unnessecary.
Each pen is adjusted individually if they have too much or not enough feed left over in the morning. If it rains, it's up to the feeder to over feed the silage to compensate for the added water.
interesting how all the cows are so quiet while they are eating. Just 1or 2 were mooing. I watch videos from other farms where they are always very noisy (maybe they are complaining because they don't like the food ...)
Why the aversion to feeding shelled corn to the high groups? Don't you need the energy? Have you ever thought of going to a self propelled TMR mixer? less travelling, more accurate measuring, less wasted feed, less overall time feeding???
We feed earlage to our high production pens instead of dry corn. Earlage is more economical for us. I like the simplicity of a pull type mixer, very little that can break. A tractor can be changed out quickly if it has issues. I don't think there are any self-propelled mixers that are similar size to our mixer available yet.
@@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047 oh I see. I was just kidding it’s still interesting. I suppose to have the sound of the equipment you would need a separate microphone?
I prefer drive over piles for silage, I think we have less spoilage and can do a good job packing the entire pile. At some point, I'd like to have bunkers for our smaller earlage piles.
We have bait stations for mice outside of all the buildings that are checked by a company once a month. We don't see mice by the buildings often, but it's impossible to keep them out of the straw bales.
Thank You for taking the time to share your thoughts to us all 😊
Feeding cows is grateful work!
Awesome drone footage Piet
Thank you!

A very happy looking and healthy herd. Good video. Thank you.
Thank you!
Great video Piet
That was interesting Piet, thanks for sharing. Deb
Interesting video. It will be better with comment when the loader was loading,😂
A push out bucket would be nice for your CAT loader.
Very nice clean and health herd, good work!
Thank you!

Thank you! Yes, feeding is a full day for 1 person.

It's important to be accurate with each ingredient, our guys do a good job putting the right amount of each feed into the mixer. Thanks for watching!
Hi Piet as always great content, enjoy all your videos.... keep em coming!
Hand wave from NE rural Ohio, be safe and healthy everyone! God Bless
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. Do you have a backup TMR mixer wagon in case of emergency?
Yes, we have a smaller Supreme 1200 mixer we can use in an emergency.
What happened to all the Beautiful White Snow. Great video
It's still here it just shrunk a little with the warm weather we've had the last 2 weeks!
Have u ever tried loading your baleage and silage then load your commodities?
No, we haven't tried that. We've always loaded baleage first, then commodities and silage last.
Congratulations Piet, nice video, good cows healthy and uniform.
How many kgs dry matter your cows eating??
Thank you! The high production pens are eating 60 to 64lbs dry mater per day, 27 to 29kg per day.
Do you ever add water to any rations, and do you ever feed unusual byproducts such as candy etc? I saw one dairy that was feeding skittles, I assume they were rejected
We don't add water, we get moisture in the mix from the silage, baleage, wet distillers and beet pulp we feed. We don't feed anything too unusual.
You should think about a push off bucket much more persistent and easier on the loader
nice video, like to see more
Thank you!
Why don’t you do a prebatch with your commodities and premix? Great videos!
I've thought about trying that, but we need the mix time to size the baleage. We could only premix 4 ingredients because the rest is wet feed, we might get a little more accurate but I don't think it would save us much time.
Why is the ground corn not used in the Milking cows but in the Close Up and Fresh pens?
In the high production pens we feed earlage instead of ground corn. Earlage is a little more economical for us. Ground corn is more consistent so we feed that to the close up and fresh pens to keep those rations very consistent.
Nice video man how many cows you guys run total?
Thank you! We are milking around 1600 cows and have around 3000 total cows, heifers and calves on the farm.

Do you feed calcium binder for close up cows? Or is it DCAD diet?
We are feeding a DCAD diet to our close up cows.

Need to add some Metallica, Tool, or Katy Perry with your drone footage 😂
My plan was to have the natural noise from the equipment but we didn't get that figured out in time.

@Tim jorden yes, essentially. I had recorded the sound with my phone.
Hi
How are you doing
Why don't you use concrete bunkers ?
I prefer drive over piles for silage, I think we have less spoilage and can do a good job packing the entire pile. At some point, I'd like to have bunkers for our smaller earlage piles.
How big is your rodent problem?...have you ever seen the videos of guys eliminating them with air rifles?
We have bait stations for mice outside of all the buildings that are checked by a company once a month. We don't see mice by the buildings often, but it's impossible to keep them out of the straw bales.
Do you guys need any help
Not at the moment.
