I got excited when you mentioned the Mangave Mission to Mars! I just bought one a few weeks ago here in Las Vegas at the Spring Mountain Preserve plant sale. I had never seen this plant before until that morning, and I couldn’t resist. The woman warned me that it had certain light and shade requirements. When I came home, I realized I didn’t have a shady place for it. So I did some moving around, as you always tell us, and put it in my very largest Talavera pot in the shadiest spot under my covered patio. Our temps get up to 115° in the summer and I do lose some of my more fragile succulents. I really like the Mission to Mars and had never seen one on your show before. They sure get big! Mine is a really nice size and fills up a corner beautifully, visible outside my French door in the dining room. I always learn at least one new thing on every show you do. thank you. And I think I will douse that insecticide again on all my 25 barrels.

The view at the back is amazing! It's good the homeowners are only putting in a low wall. Can't wait to see the new patio.

Laura's excitement to tear in and rebuild is how you know she's a designer first and plant person second 😂
Laura: it's stunning the plants are thriving... Let's tear in and see if we can make it better!
... and we love every minute.

That mammillaria looks like it has cactus spine scale (Acanthococcus coccineus) a kind of scale that can live on the spines of cactus. Like other scale, it can be treated with regular sprays of isopropyl rubbing alcohol, or exactly as you did with a systemic.

It all looks great, even if you had to stop from doing more. That barrel garden you had to remove was gorgeous, it is kind of sad you had to remove it .

What a pretty property! Laura, does the Tree and Shrub Systemic stain echeverias or does it remove the farina?

Those little white guys on the cactus look like mealy bugs but usually they prefer succulent leaves and hide in the nooks and crannies. I'm currently dealing with this issue they popped up on a plant I have had for years and now I'm treating everything like crazy with systemic but still found more hiding in some other random plants. I have never really had much of and issue until last year. All it takes is one plant for those suckers to start spreading even when you think they are gone.

Yep..those are definitely mealybugs on that mammillaria! I get so many of them on all of my spiny cacti and they even attach all around the outside of the terra cotta pots! Ugh!

Hi Laura, looks like the mammilaria has spine mealy. Alcohol and a cue tip should do it.

Hello. I'm in South Florida. I have always had problems storing left over soil. It gets full of bugs. Please advise.
