Life's a beach surf and skate shop in El cajon California on jamacha rd had all the gear back in the 80s as a kid growing up. Ricky Johnson was my favorite rider
I got to see RJ race the Tokyo Supercross (I lived in Japan and raced amateur MX there from 1981-1984). He was an absolute SUPERSTAR. The man epitomizes professional Motorsports and even though he is probably close to my age, he was one of my hero’s in the 80’s!
Definitely one of my all-time favorites. I bought all the Moto-Video supercross races I could afford back then. I think I have 8 of them, including 1986 Anaheim. Transferred them to DVD about 20 years ago. I'm going to watch a couple tonight. Thanks for the memories Rick!
I used to wear RJ JT Bad Boy race shirts out on town, back in the day. Loads of people said how awesome they were and asked where they could buy one. These were the days of mx 😎
R.J. is a classic a super rider best of his time as a Mx & Sx rider also world Mx champion class A # 1 He was and still is a super champ a gentleman and a good friend These two guys are very much involved in the world of racing today as they were then
I remember the motorcross maximus Oakley sunglasses ad in Dirt Rider Magazine that had Rick and it probably contributed to a thermonuclear protection sticker on my ford escort for those who know....
"When in doubt, close your eyes and gas it." ~ Dave Lanos, a friend, circa 1989 Hoo-rah Rick Johnson. While Ricky was King, my mullet had power. Here's to dirt bikes, girls with bad judgement, mullets and cheap beer. Nothing better has ever been invented, conceived or devised.
I hope to not offend anyone but for me it's weird listening to someone talking about his faith in Jesus Christ and saying he wanted to beat everybody (at the track).

A person of grit all the way to the end. Thanks for the memories Rick. A champion and inspiration on and off the track. Well done.
Wow. Just amazing. What a talent, and what a thoughtful, well-spoken man. Very valuable life lessons here. Still my hero.
i am 50 years old and ricky is still my hero
He wasnt my hero back then but he is now.

Villars Sous Ecot in 88 and Birmingham NEC (UK) 89 i think, I gave up in 93.😊

Literally watched all these guys race at Washougal and the kingdome
What a man, his wounded wrist defaults to WFO!
At first I thought Glover was dressed in drag!
This is pretty much spot on. I heard that McGrath guy was pretty good too. I wonder what ever happened to him? lol
McGrath went on to race trucks dirt track .
He won the odd SX here and there
Oh wow his hand 😢.
Left hand throttle, wow

Uncle Joe Benson doing the announcing.
If Ricky was in politics, I'd vote for him.... He is one cool dude.
Dragging the brakes through the whoops doesn't work. I don't know who "invented" that, but it was just wrong. Physics says so.
