    I never get annoyed when behind farm equipment as I know there's a job to do that is literally keeping us fed.
    Thanks to the farmers.👍
    Grew up in mostly country. Loved being on my uncles farm when I was a kid, so country boy at heart.

    It doesn’t happen very often, but if I ever get stuck behind a farmer in a tractor I just take the time to enjoy the scenery and to appreciate the fact that the farmer in front of me is contributing to the nation’s food supply. I do rather enjoy eating! As a truck driver, I’ll be passing another car or truck at 75 mph and yet STILL have some fool trying to kiss my DOT bumper (talk about the kiss of death!). Trust me, you can never go quite fast enough for some people!

    I grew up in Western Kansas and worked in the harvest field and drove every vehicle in the field. Dry land farming is the hardest but is rewarding when you hit a good year. Nice seeing something that looks close to home!;) grain cart is the best… new combine is amazing, to have that few blow over is awesome. Good luck this year it looks pretty good.

  • @marathonman1955
    @marathonman1955 8 днів тому +5

    Thanks Jo. Combine’s are such amazing pieces of machinery. Harvest is a real team game
    In Australia at the moment a lot of our crops were sown dry and sat in the ground for nearly a month before we got a germinating rain. It’s still patchy but at least the lighter country is up.
    Our harvests here start in late October depending on the crop. Canola first then lentils and oats barley then wheat near Christmas. Corn or maize is still not as popular here but more is being grown. Maize silage is cut for dairy herds around March April
    Enjoy your videos mate
    Cheers

    Good stuff, good to see the Lexion out in the field , with the thicker crops over here we have to have the side elevators bringing the crop into the middle running slower than Zack has his, or it over fills the intake elevator and grabs it taking it back under the header, something to keep an eye out for ! Just a tip !

    You guys do a fantastic job of explaining what work goes on during a harvest and the very intricate and expensive machinery that is used. I use to help my grandfather on his farm with wheat, corn and cotton and then he would hand me a 22 and tell me to go clear out the rabbits. Best time of my life while growing up and I still visit the old farm. Absolutely love your videos.

    I've never farmed before, but it's definitely a lot more labor-intensive in the modernized way now than the old way. Combines are assembled, programmed, moved, harvested... and then repaired when the time is right... I really shouldn't think of farming as easy now... 😂😂

    We usually grow 40-50 bushels per acre in Central Alberta on number 3 soil. Of course people with number 1 or 2 soil will have higher yields but rain is the big deciding factor. Good luck with your harvest. Ours doesn't start usually till mid to late August.

  • @gardnep

    Great to see you so enthusiastic for the job. You are a great promoter. Wheat harvest starts in November and December in Australia. And I hear people love driving the chaser bins. We call our small bins ‘chaser bins’ because they chase the ‘header’ (our name for your combine), because it takes the heads off the wheat. Chaser bins empty into the ‘mother bin’ at the end of the field. Harvest is pretty stressful over here as well. Thanks for the video.
