Hi Richard, The gun is truly a testament to the designers and builders that went before us. A pleasure to load for and fire........Doc

I've always wanted an Alex Henry sporting model falling block. Nice one Doc.

Very well built these rifles, mine was built by Alex Henry with a right hand lock, the AH built rifles had a stepped lock plate with a lock made by Brazier, they were made in LH and RH lock form, great attention to detail as well. Many thanks for posting this! Stay safe! Chris B.

Hi Chris, I'm pleased that you viewed the production, being vested in this type of arm as you are. I have very little experience with these as we don't see them on this side of the pond. But I always admired their superior design and workmanship. You are privileged to posses yours. Best regards.....Doc

Elegant rifle. Thanks for another VERY informative video. The meticulous display of disassembly and assembly shows the beauty of the design.

Hello Hans, I'm pleased that you enjoyed it. I must say that I was seduced by the exceptional action and cartridge combination. They did put some critical thought into the design....Doc

Awesome rifle Doc . That is the best gun for you being your lefthanded. Never seen one with the lock on the left side. Another great shooter for your collection.

Hi Phillip, glad you liked it. Perhaps Mr. Henry was left handed ??? Or, it was simply made for the Australian market where the toilets spin the other way ???

Beautiful rifle and great shooting. It's very timely that I found this video as I have recently embarked on researching the militia and police of Australia during the Australian frontier wars of the 1850s onwards. I always did have a soft spot for these Martini Henry alternatives (the AH rifle looks a quite a bit more handy as well). I watched your other videos and found them quite informative with a relaxing format.
If you ever get your hands on one, a video on the Remington Keene would be much appreciated.

Hello Sir, and thank you for the kind critique. The pace on my channel is rather subdued. A "Mad-Minute" may take as much as an hour. Best of luck on your research. I believe it's a time period that parallels our wild west, including a gold rush. I do have a Remington Keene carbine but sad to say I have never fired it, although it is included in my mental list of semi uncommon ones to shoot. Perhaps this Fall. Best regards......Doc

Wow, another rare gun Doc. That Aussie gun has the lock on the wrong side, just like my Brit motorcycle has the shifter on the wrong side. I have a weakness for English designed stuff, quirky as it is. At least you've found an antique gun for lefty's. Since Google has control of UA-cam now I've noticed comments I've left on you channel do not appear and comments left on my channel have disappeared. I don't know if it's censorship or what. Plus I see occasional adds on my un-monetized channel. Oh well, another great video. Thanks Gp

Hi Gp, It is curious why they built it like that, but you must remember that their toilets spin opposite of ours also ! Now that you mention it, I do remember years ago trying my friends British bikes, and they took some concentration to manipulate. BSA , Triumphs, & Norton. I stayed with my BMW R-60-2 for years. No fan of Lucas electrics. The u-tube issue is very annoying, I have witnessed all you allude to and more. I also noticed that some of my faithful followers have been UN-subscribed. Keep the faith...Best regards.....Doc

Hi Hugh, Glad you enjoyed the adventure. The time machine was a barkentine out of Sydney, the year 1871. " We sailed on the good ship Venus...My God you should 'of seen us"

It is a shame someone couldn't tool up for these guns and make them again. They aren't complicated at all. With today's machining methods they could be easily made. Bit I am afraid with todays inflated prices they would be out of reach for the average shooter who likes this type of gun me included. Fine old weapon...

Hello Johnny, I appreciate your input. I agree with your statement that these could be easily produced today. Unfortunately today's business model does not look for a reasonable profit. If we can't make a gouging we don't bother getting involved. Also, making any item where someone can get injured carries severe liability. If we all signed a waiver at birth, perhaps we could move forward.

Wow! I own a Martini Henry but I would like to have a gun like this! How much would cost such a marvel? I presume much more than a Martini-Henry, considering the fact that there are way less specimens available.

    • @dr.durellshepard398
      @dr.durellshepard398  Місяць тому

Hi, It could be as much as double the cost, depending on your location, condition and availability. Best of luck on your quest.

Hello RGK, Most of these guns want a "Fat" .45 cal bullet so I purchased some from Old West Bullet Molds. Typical diameter is around .465" - .472" You may also try paper patching a standard .45 cal. bullet up to that diameter.......Doc

Да, сэр, он был основан на старом английском патроне 58-го калибра. В последующие годы, когда в них был заряжен бездымный порох, из этого патрона было неприятно стрелять. С уважением из США.
