  • BARNYARD BOUNCE:
Will Bradley and his orchestra, Ray McKinley (dr & vo).
    Dir: Arthur Leonard.
    WILL BRADLEY
Born Willbur Schwichtenberg in Newton, New Jersey in 1912, trombonist Will moved to New York City in 1928 and joined Milt Shaw's Detroiters. After long stints with CBS and Ray Noble, he formed his own band in 1939 with co-leader Ray McKinley and began recording for Vocalion / Columbia. The band at this time featured pianist Freddie Slack and saxophonist Peanuts Hucko, as well as Bradley on trombone and McKinley on drums and vocals, and their unusual style; part swing, part Dixieland, part boogie woogie, became a smash hit with songs like “Rhumboogie”, “Beat Me Daddy, Eight To The Bar”, and “Down The Road A-Piece”. The group went their separate ways in 1942 and Bradley died in 1989.

Give Will Bradley and Ray McKinley any song on any subject and they could swing it into a smash hit!🎶👍😊

This song puts a smile on my face and a skip in my heart. After serving in the war with Glenn Miller, Bradley led the new Glenn Miller Orchestra from '56 to '66 at the request of the late Miller's wife, Helen. I have a longer version of Barnyard Bounce with a few more bathing beauties tossing a beach ball and looking like they had a few puffs of funny weed -- hilarious.
