I have never hit a single one. Squirrels are way slower, indecisive and unfocused. I have hit several, unfortunately.
When I was a kid we would sit nearly all day feeding chipmunks and blue jays. They would climb all over us and sit on our laps and shoulders. We would buy large sacs of peanuts for them, So fun!
I may be the exception and not the rule, but the closer I drew towards Jesus, aka found peace and acceptance, the more I noticed little animals wouldn't run from me. The same with cats and dogs their owners would say their cats and/or dogs normally don't like anyone nor let them pet them. I can't explain it, but I think they can see our aura or something. 🤷♂️
I used to have a pet chipmunk. He would ride around in my pocket with me when I needed to go shopping and things. Cute as a bugs ear and I sure miss him!
The smile at the end is just like a small child’s smile, totally genuine and fully in the moment. Beautiful. We should all strive to have more moments like this.

As a kid visiting my grand parents, half way across the country, my Mimi taught us to get chipmunks, to eat out of our hands, it’s still one of my top most favorite childhood memories!! Unfortunately as an adult I don’t get beautiful chipmunks as I have to have outdoor cats to keep the mice population away as I’m surrounded by lots of woods. Plenty of squirrels stealing lots of say good, my fruit off my trees and my garden produce, and just running all over the place but have never had one of those climb on me.

This is what my house is like. I care for 9 gray-squirrels and two red-bellied woodpeckers. Took me longer to tame the woodpeckers, but they are my best friends now. Oh, and 3 fat and lazy raccoons. Animals love me.
Sounds like me and my husband! We have 2 bobcats, a couple coyotes, 1 owl, 1 possum named Chonkers, 1 fox, and couple pairs of mates cranes that come back every year with their babies that all live freely on our land. We've chosen to live with all our wonderful and beautiful wildlife then against it. The pay off is that over the years these animals have learned we aren't going to harm or harass them and come to trust us. The Bobcat showed up with 2 babies 3 months ago and it was magical to see these little balls of fluffy stalking the grass and playing.
I love chippies! My family has been hand feeding them for more than 50 yrs. My Dad's father was a little upset when I would hold a peanut between my front teeth-half sticking out of my mouth-the chipmunks would take the peanut fro me using their mouth. You don't dare go outside without peanuts, they will literally search your pockets looking for peanuts. Every spring it's always so awesome to teach the baby chippies how to take peanuts from your fingers. The more you interact with them, you form a wonderful, trusting relationships that last through the years, generation to generation on both the human side and the chippies side..

I had a chipmunk living under my deck that used to climb up on me like this, 20 yrs ago or so. I named him Dale. Not sure what happened to him, but I would bet it was a feral cat! I live in a neighbor that had several of these feral cats, but not anymore! I miss those encounters with Dale!
