Two xmaxxs with two different motor systems.
How fast is the Xmaxx 8s with a Hobbywing Max5 ESC and an 800kv big can motor with the vitavon mod 1.5 gearing (25t/30t).
V's Another Xmaxx 8s with the preferred combo? Stock 8s motor being controlled by the hobbywing Max6 ESC. with mod 1.5 gearing also (10t/15t).
One is low cost and the other has a high price tag.
We speed test them both and also drag race them.
Which is the best combo 🤔

The stock motor in the Xmaxx is good, but my experience is that it starts loosing speed and torque long term. It's just too small for the Xmaxx. That's been my experience. My Max 5 and 1100kv 5687 motor with 25/35 gearing is still going strong after like two years.

That's good to hear. I am happy with my xmaxx motor system with the 800kv for now. I've had no problems except it destroys diffs now 😆 I have got an option to get a vitavon 30t pinion gear or to change the motor to 1100kv. I'm still trying to work out what's best to do. But yeah the max5 combo hardly got hot at all, which I was pleased about. Thanks for sharing your experiences with me 👍💯

@@watersidebashers.9792 I had to put a shim in front of the outputting drives, put aluminum diff cases from Traxxas (I used the one meant for the center diff), put aluminum diff covers and that has helped a lot. WFO drive cup sleeves are a must on the diffs too. All that was done for my front and rear diffs 👍

@@joseCalderon1976 thats great advise. That should keep the gear mesh nice and tight.. ill give that a try. Thank you 😊

Pardon my ignorance (I’m still running stock)…what is “mod 1.5 gearing”, and what is the appeal?

    • @watersidebashers.9792

That's OK. Mod 1.5 is the pitch of the pinion and spur gears ⚙️ it's the gap between each tooth. Mod 1.5 is the biggest gap which means there chunky and less likely to break. They're a lot tougher than Mod 1 for example. They cope more with putting bigger motor and more powerful motors in. Mod 1.5 gears are noisier though, so you loose the smoothness.

@4200Shields The gear teeth are bigger. This means that for any given material, the tooth is less likely to break. It also easier to get the mesh correct...or should I say, more tolerate to poor mesh.

How do you get the gear mesh right on new Traxxas models..will the stock motor pin system still work?

Now do the HW 1100kv with the Vitavon gears.
