    Another observation is the genius engineering that put the positive and negative screw heads back to back.

    what size fuse is needed to the battery?

    I bought the same remote that you used for your video. Now on my receiver box most of the wires as the yellow and white have ring terminals on them. I think yours does also.
    Does one have to cut the ring terminals off and install spade terminals? That is what has confused me and have not been able to install mine as I saw no place that the white and yellow wires can go with the ring terminals. Oh and yours is the best video on here.

    • @OldSoulMillennial
      @OldSoulMillennial  2 місяці тому

      You may have to cut the ring terminals to accomplish what you need to do. Very simple with an automatic wire stripper, and crimping tool. Do you need tool suggestions?

    • @erwinerwin1245
      @erwinerwin1245 2 місяці тому

      @@OldSoulMillennial I kind of assumed that I had to remove the ring terminals but was confused as why the manufacturer puts on the wrong terminals that will connect in no place. Now after watching your video I then was convinced that one has to take the ring terminals off. Now I have all of the tools as wire crimpers, and connectors. Just was not sure that one had to re-engineer a new product.
      One more question.
      I am going to use my 3500 pound winch to hook up to a U-Haul trailer to winch in a 330 pound motorcycle. The original wired remote came with wires for the battery that looked like about 8 gauge . I have some 8 gauge wires here and is it safe to assume that they will do the job or does one need 4 gauge. Now as mentioned I am not going to use a 3500 pound max pull job.

    Why do you have to have a solenoid? Why can’t you hook F1 and F2 directly to the two lugs on the winch?
    Then power and ground to pos and neg from the battery?

    • @OldSoulMillennial
      @OldSoulMillennial  10 місяців тому +2

      The same reason your car has a relay for the starter motor. The ignition switch would melt if you tried to push that much current through it.
      Same idea with this winch controller. F1 and F2 are designed to supply maybe 5 amps Max (if that). A very basic 2k winch will likely draw at least 30 Amps.

    Thank you very much for this video. Just got the exact same remote for my current project. Then it does not come with instructions. That could not be explained better than what you did. And for my project (to be published in a few weeks), I really need to know which wire does what, as I won't be connecting it to a winch solenoid, but rather 2 relays (30 amps). Have you tried how far can you still get a good signal with the remote? Can the antenna be extended? I'd like, ideally, have this remote to work up to 150ft away. I know it's not meant for that far, but still hoping if the antenna is well located. Thanks again!

      Always good to hear from you my friend. Glad this video was helpful. While installing this controller, I was also thinking of several other applications I could use this device for. Great minds think alike! Looking forward to seeing what you have created.
      Now to answer your question about range. I am unsure what the maximum distance the remote will work from, but I will test that out this weekend and report back.
      The remote I purchased is definitely the low budget option. I would presume that there are better quality, longer range controllers out there, but they will be at a premium. The one I purchased is advertised at 100' Range. The antenna consists of a 6" tail of approx. 16 gauge wire (Appeared to be pure copper). Stripping this portion and soldering on an extension may increase the range. I would also say that other nearby electronic and wireless devices may cause some interference, thus decreasing the range.

    • @OldSoulMillennial
      @OldSoulMillennial  Рік тому +1

      My remote worked to about 120 Feet, with a direct line of sight. Trees or obstructions will reduce the range.
