4 years since this video was created and my appreciation of it comes today. I had to fix the screen of my spare phone and seeing this video made all the difference. Since the S8 is a spare phone for me I have opened it and disconnected everything at least, 20 times or more and have had fun while doing it! Thank you Jerry for this informational video and keep it coming!
@@micharymkiewicz3770 i dont think i understood the question well, but i strongly suggest going with a phone to a repair shop, i usually like to repair phones myself but when it comes to waterproofing i want my phone to be handled by a professional. I've found a pretty good repair shop in my town and they managed to use a special kind of glue to keep the water resistance as much as possinle, i have dropped my phone into water many times and once it even managed to fall 2m deep into water and nothing happend
@@micharymkiewicz3770 Somebody may have a different solution but as far as I know once you open it up you more or less loose the so to speak, the "waterproof" seal. Also, there are many online stores that sell the sticker template or the sticky tape itself but once again that does not guarantees you a waterproof seal. Here are few scenarios that I have personally experienced. A) My unopened 3yr old phone on its own got its glass back plate detached as one day when removed the phone case. Am guessing due to the heat it generates during wireless charging and prolong use the original seal weakened to the point the glass plate came off. B) A friend brought his unopened / untempered phone to a Authorised Samsung service center and was told there was water damage. He was baffled and questioned the service staff how was that possible since its "waterproof" and not been opened before and to that the service staff said you may have submerged it for a long period or may have used your phone in varying temperatures. However, none of that was done but he agreed merely, being caught in the rain etc.. However, he got it serviced that one time FOC under warranty and was advised the rest of his warranty will be unusable. C) Even if you get it repaired at 3rd party mobile repair shops they too will not take the guarantee of "waterproofing" it. In fact, good repair shops will tell you straight up that they will not guarantee it. So the whole fact of the matter is even Samsung that claims "waterproof" rigidity they too will do a back flip when such things happen. I am keeping my phone for the very same reasons you are but I do not trust that it will ever be waterproof, so to speak.
I'm pretty sure goldfish are ok but not cats. Zack, I use your videos to help explain modern technology to other people all the time. The way you simplify and call out the feature/benefit of everything as you go makes it easy. Awesome! Thank you.
if you want to see a clear phone you can simply peel the color off the inside of the glass back, there are many videos of people doing this with S7's, S6's, and Note 5's
Thanks jerry, it helped me fix my phone by myself. recently i broke my S8 display and got it replaced for approx 250$ from the samsung service centre. being nice they also replaced the complete metallic side rim coz it was slightly damaged too. My bad that i did not fully check the mobile while receiving. i discovered later that my voice could not be heard by other over the phone. After bearing the pain for few weeks, i could not convince myself to submit phone to those service centre people again. Today i opened the phone using this video and found out that they forgot to remove a packing from the mic hole. its solved ta! da!.

I just watched this video on my Samsung Galaxy S8. I have it since the end of April 2017. I think this is one of the best videos you have ever made JerryRigEverything!

Chris Gardner yeah. I appreciate it but it doesn't mean I don't miss the old days when it didn't matter if I dropped the phone a few times even after the warranty passed. It didn't break easy and it came back together easy. And, even today, a Nokia phone is bought way back in 2004 runs perfectly fine. My little sister uses it to call people. It had a unique design (unlike everything today) and it was durable. The most damage it has is a few scratches on the screen and some chipped paint on the camera cover and sides. I even have an older phone from 2003 that used to work just fine till a few months ago when it fell into a boiling pot of water. It didn't recover, may it rest in peace after a life of about 15 years.
@@selfproclaimednobody4614 Phones were ALWAYS mini computers. They've never not been. Anti-consumer issues like this have nothing to do with how complex phones are they just want to make more money. Zack i have been watching your videos for more then a year and they are allways so interesting and ive learned a lot about phones from you.I even fixed my phone thanks to you.Keep up an amazing vids.Love u.
Varun Kesari he made one for the s7 and iPhone 7 they should be similar I guess. To sum it up,there's just rubber around all the ports as he showed in this video and adhesive under the glass of the phone so water can't seep through
iOBX oh right that too. It's very hard for water to go through the mesh because of water tension or something and only under too much pressure can water go through
good video , this is actually a tech channel and not just destroying stuff by dumping it in a pool for example. We actually learn something from these videos . keep it up!
I gotta say i'm subscribing to you now mainly because you have a very good process for both durability testing and tearing things apart, but it definately helped me click the button to hear your slight jabs at various companies when the occasion calls for it ^^
Michael Mitchell Awww~ Someone's butt hurt because we're enjoying roasted apple. Of course they make shit loads of money from isheeps / keyboard warriors like you. I'm not rich but can afford a S8+ which by the way is worth its price.
Michael Mitchell we got a case severe butthurt over here. Calm down dude. Why do you care so much about some company that ain't giving no shit about you. It's okay if you prefer their products, but when you compassionately defend apple corporation like you have some kind of emotional entanglement to them is pathetic. Get a life.
You know your video is so good when someone like me (who owns another phone) would watch the whole video and actually learns how to fix an S8... Love the satirical jokes and all! Keep up the great work!
Umami Cupcake Also micro sd cards become faster with higher capacity and cheaper every year. You could have all the capacity you want by buying even more cards, they are so small and easy to carry. Also there is Usb on the go, that allow you to connect the phone to portable drives that have capacities in Terabytes. So 256 GB fixed internal storage is nothing in comparison.
I was thinking about getting new phone, because my S8 is two years old, but after this and durability test video, i learned that it is better than i thought.
Hey, I just wanna say thank you for making these videos and for your time to do it. As someone who likes to fix my own gadget I really appreciate it. Also, I hope in the future big companies will acknowledge our rights to be able to fix our own phone by making it easier to do so. Cheers mate.
Had an S8 that wouldn't charge at all. Had a replacement S8 that I busted the front and back screen that worked fine before that. With your video and help, I completely swapped the motherboard and charging port and battery, basically all of it, and now I have an S8 that works perfectly rather than two useless S8s. Back up phone I guess. Thank you so much for the vid.
thanks for the vids @ZacksJerryRig! Durability and repairability is very important for me when it comes to tech. I would never buy a new phone without watching your tear down vids!
Zack, I trully love your channel. The charisma you spread out, and not giving a single fuck when something is wrong with the phone. from your videos you could learn a lot of how the technology works and definately have a better or worse (looking at you htc) opinion about the particular gadget. Keep it up with the good work and last but not least, start making reviews before testing a phone. I do believe you 100% and your opinion would be far more valuable than all the paid reviews and comercials.
i tried to repair my s8 which only had a broken glass back, I ended up adding too much heat and melting the main camera module, ruining the finger print scanner and the charging port... but hey, at least it looks new again..

They want you to buy a new phone instead of repairing it. Which is stupid because computers no matter what they are laptop, phone, or desktop are incredibly easy to repair.
1:59 LOOOOOL
He roasted Apple again
that was really funny
Zack i have been watching your videos for more then a year and they are allways so interesting and ive learned a lot about phones from you.I even fixed my phone thanks to you.Keep up an amazing vids.Love u.
hey zack make a video on what makes the Galaxy s8 water-resistant!
Varun Kesari he made one for the s7 and iPhone 7 they should be similar I guess. To sum it up,there's just rubber around all the ports as he showed in this video and adhesive under the glass of the phone so water can't seep through
Poot Also there's those meshes on the earpieces.
iOBX oh right that too. It's very hard for water to go through the mesh because of water tension or something and only under too much pressure can water go through
stupid
hey you finally got 60fps videos.
I love the shade he randomly throws at what ever time he likes and at whichever company he wants
Here after the s10 video for the *dog sign*
I got the S7 Edge Blue Coral yesterday!
Amazing Panda WOW! That's fucking amazing! You bought a phone from last year! How completely awesome I can't contain myself! Lol. JK
good video , this is actually a tech channel and not just destroying stuff by dumping it in a pool for example. We actually learn something from these videos . keep it up!
Who else came from the s10 video for the dog joke lol
You have probably watched too many of my videos. You should go outside
I am sure this guy offends apple users without offending them! lol.. that earphone and wireless
I gotta say i'm subscribing to you now mainly because you have a very good process for both durability testing and tearing things apart, but it definately helped me click the button to hear your slight jabs at various companies when the occasion calls for it ^^
I came as fast as I could.
same
same. damn it felt good
I feel sorry for the lady in your life lol
Habblake
I love Jerry's Videos
his voice is really enjoyable
I know, that his name is Zack :D
I also like his voice. But I don't like that he says "bind test" in stead of "bend test".
thanks jerry for tearing down the phones without you we could have never known the build quality and an addiction to teardown
I love ROASTED APPLE! anyone else? [1:59]
Johnny Tang I love grilled apple
NA nice!
Bobby Tyler
Michael Mitchell Awww~ Someone's butt hurt because we're enjoying roasted apple. Of course they make shit loads of money from isheeps / keyboard warriors like you. I'm not rich but can afford a S8+ which by the way is worth its price.
Michael Mitchell we got a case severe butthurt over here. Calm down dude. Why do you care so much about some company that ain't giving no shit about you. It's okay if you prefer their products, but when you compassionately defend apple corporation like you have some kind of emotional entanglement to them is pathetic. Get a life.
"Apple will probably invent this in the future"
🤣🤣🤣
Roasted so bad!!!
🖖
i love how you think outside the box and always try to make things unique
Jerryrigeverything: "Apple will definitely invent this technology in the furue"
2020 magsafe: gotcha
What skin is that? I've checked Dbrand's website and can't find it.
You know your video is so good when someone like me (who owns another phone) would watch the whole video and actually learns how to fix an S8...
Love the satirical jokes and all! Keep up the great work!
Great use of space!
Apple will invent this in the future 😂😂😂🔥
Umami Cupcake we already have a duel sim card slot
Umami Cupcake and we can have up to 256 gb of storage so what does iPhone have
Umami Cupcake Salty much? I'll just go pick up a 256gb SD on top of the 64gb internal and have 320gb
or get a 512 gb one for a total of 576 gb
Umami Cupcake Also micro sd cards become faster with higher capacity and cheaper every year. You could have all the capacity you want by buying even more cards, they are so small and easy to carry. Also there is Usb on the go, that allow you to connect the phone to portable drives that have capacities in Terabytes. So 256 GB fixed internal storage is nothing in comparison.
I was thinking about getting new phone, because my S8 is two years old, but after this and durability test video, i learned that it is better than i thought.
1:59 I love how you roast Apple much for how scummy of a company they are lol.
Edit: oooohhh 6:37
Galaxy's Have Always Been Easy To Re Assemble Especially The Galaxy S3
dude..i still using galaxy s3...running with lineage nougat 7.1.1..like a beast
Nice!
Hey, I just wanna say thank you for making these videos and for your time to do it. As someone who likes to fix my own gadget I really appreciate it. Also, I hope in the future big companies will acknowledge our rights to be able to fix our own phone by making it easier to do so. Cheers mate.
Jerryrigeverything:"Apple will invent this technology in the future."
*A few months later the iPhone x has it*
hey i see you never did an iphone 7 teardown, could you plz do one to continue this series. ps love the apple roasts
+JJUnboxing i showed an iPhone screen replacement and a iPhone 7 battery swap.
JerryRigEverything oh sorry i must have skipped over it, thanks but you should open the new mi6
1.59 hahaha yes apple does like to take credit for inventing stuff that has been around last 20 years or so :D
like a l i t t l e l e g o
elliott m imposiblle kids lego duplo XD
thanks for the vids @ZacksJerryRig! Durability and repairability is very important for me when it comes to tech. I would never buy a new phone without watching your tear down vids!
I don't even have this phone, why am I watching this?
bear same here 😂😂
bear, Потому что он (it) лучший!
Да, но я думаю, что он лучше в птичьем праве
bear humor.
Aa, Ho R Aymalo,4to oh, nY4weB nTN4bem npabe that is pretty funny
the dog sign means : Avoid letting your dog chew/bite the battery because it will harm him
no it means dogs aren't allowed to work on batteries
Crest.pdf lol that too 😜🐶
I love your videos! The battery joke was hilarious!
Zack, I need you to make an entire video dedicated to roasting Apple.
+Wouter R anal.
Wouter R ya me too..
after u re-assemble, it is still water resistant?
+Chor Somano unfortunately no...
JerryRigEverything what if you just reapplied the adhesives and any gaskets?
Zack, I trully love your channel. The charisma you spread out, and not giving a single fuck when something is wrong with the phone. from your videos you could learn a lot of how the technology works and definately have a better or worse (looking at you htc) opinion about the particular gadget. Keep it up with the good work and last but not least, start making reviews before testing a phone. I do believe you 100% and your opinion would be far more valuable than all the paid reviews and comercials.
i tried to repair my s8 which only had a broken glass back, I ended up adding too much heat and melting the main camera module, ruining the finger print scanner and the charging port... but hey, at least it looks new again..
xDD
Did you use a damn flamethrower how do you manage to do that?
@@NobuNobuSimp 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂i also think the same
yes ive finally made it to the early crew
welcome
