Thanks for this video. A nice fellow was showing me his Model T Ford today, a 1922 model I think he said... anyway I asked him how the timing worked as I noticed the ignition system was firewall mounted and there wasn't a visible distributor. He even showed me an old coil in the wooden box. As an aircraft mechanic I can tell you I've seen some cool stuff but this old car was truly a work of art. So very simple but also mechanical genius as well. Considering the available technology the engineering behind this car and the mass production of it was pure genius as well. When I seen the exterior contact points on the coil box it left me scratching my head but your video along with the coil diagram made it all clear to me. The operation is so simple you can actually overthink it. High voltage output from induction generated by a high frequency coil modulation...field collapse and motivation. MSD ignition system from the cave man era lol. But what ain't funny about it is that it all still works like a champ. A 100 year old ignition system with original wiring that still freaking works! Don't get me wrong, I sure as hell wouldn't want to try to crank it on a cold frozen night with that hand crank...but you know it still had to beat the heck out of walking or riding a horse!!!

I'm a self taught motor mechanic, got my first motorcycle in 1967 age 16. Still disillusioned with most in the trade even engine machinists don't seem to do as you request. It’s generally not the tradie but the dealer at fault. Some self employed motor mechanic are ratbags, be very careful out there.
A cross between the 'lawn mower engine' style magneto and 'coil on/near plug' system. That picture you showed of the horse shoe magnets on the flywheel, i counted 16 mounted on it. But i didn't see the magnet keepers mounted to it to stop them flying off.

Excellent inflection and clarity. You make the that which at first appears murky but then a moment of clarity ensues. Of course. So simple. Why didn't I think of that. No damn computers. Just a basic application of Ohm's Law. KISS principle. If it ain't broke why fix it. 15 million is a LOT of anything in our present dilemma. Haven't had time to read all the comments but wouldn't worry about shaky pointer comment. If I were doing the video I'm sure Id be like a rabbit jacked on meth. Not quite as calm as you. I'm a little hesitant to open this subject but I will anyways. The following is strictly off the books. So far just conjecture. Will have to draw the circuits myself to help figure it out. Maybe it's too simple. Apparently Ford was having some kinds of trouble with the oil companies. So what he said to them was either leave me alone or I'll set up my cars to run magnetically. Because of the huge magneto cow magnets in the large housing behind the engine. Always protect your electrical stuff from the elements. I just wonder. Could it be done? Take the petrol engine out of the equation and maybe use the battery somehow. H'mm. I wonder. There's still so much we don't know about electrons and magnets. All started with that darn Faraday's disc. You're looking at the meter and saying, WTF!!! How can a "solid" sheet produce a small voltage. I though a voltage was produced.when a magnetic field rotated past a coil of wire/wires. Or vica versa. Another h'mm. Too many mysteries. Excellent video. sir. Well done. Doesn't matter how many people see this video. There are always the seekers.

Great video thanks for uploading…frequency fires the engine…Not the spark…see the SUZUKI video and JOE X video. Joe talks about waste spark management and how the CONDENSER Frequency is the most important component of the ICE ignition system. The oldest cars and airplanes fired on Flatline DC frequency ONE WIRE to the engine block and it would work on 1 - 12 cylinder engines…NO SPARK INVOLVED. 80 degrees advanced from TDC Top Dead Center. Plz put more like this up thx great video!
Questions. This car its the one ford did recall buy back most of units sold on us . And the other thing its the a/c electric create on this kinda of sistem will boil water and creates movement in the crank . The only problem is the sistem need to be ready creating the A/C in order to no stop and control the volume of fluid cause if its to much will hidrolock . The suzi its same think and will runn . Now if the a/c power its steady and dont fluctuate is just start and runn . Give exempl get lawnmower and put wire from the outlet of the house a/c on top of the spark and the ground on the body of the motor and runn after start u can use water to keep going the only thing to remember its u need to ajust the volume of liquid.

yes you are right multipel spark system it was common to use multipel primary,secundary wires in different configuration including different condenser and resistor values commonly they look like dimmer rotary switches . So tehnicaly speaking they are similar to Hei or Cdi ignition even that spark polarity can be changed as well. Dual engine designs used dual spark . Your realy good at it hoppe you have sucess finding new things that book is nice to look that manual ajusting is necesary still today modern ignition systems are terribel choice they have to much problems that same ignition system you are describeing was even strong enough to fry raw oil those old engines used also dual fueling carburetors the exaust pipes were close to carburetor so actualy that engine was multi fuel engine preaty cool staff considering how old that thing was
Thank you for making this video, I have a 1917 and the only thing that is left is the Commutator and I didn't know anything about the IS before the video. I don't have any thing but spark plugs and the commutator, I'm glad I saw your video before I tried putting a modern coil on and feeding the plugs from the commutator because I was thinking it was a distributor. lol, what if I put four modern coils after the commutator, do you think that would work, or would I need more things in-between to make it work?
While triggering a modern coil on plug set up is possible I am not sure that would be the best approach. Did you consider obtaining the box and coils. I am not a “T” owner but think they can still be had still at not too ridiculous cost…

I don't' have 300+ bucks to dump in to coils atm, right now I just want to see the motor run, and I if I could find a ez cheep temp fix for the mean while I would be happy

How many volts and amperes produced this AC system . Because if he worked on AC then he could be use for example by an AC welder in the field

Interesting was hot would start if one of coils were sparking free start on battery màg weak on crank unless you er supernan
