As an O’Byrne who has recently returned from do United States to Ireland was quite honoured to watch this video ; My son is named Fíach; was always aware of the O’Byrne history. I know of three Fíach O’Byrne’s. Very interesting. Ironically there are so few of us left as they seem to be scattered around the world.
Excellent, insightful retelling of this important event in Irish history as Gaelic Ireland battled courageously, but ultimately in vain, to push back against "foreign Saxon invaders". In the end, it was a numbers game. All wars then and since are.

@@primalireland-histcult In 1583, Gerald Fitzgerald, 15th Earl of Desmond, was murdered & his head sent to QE I as she ordered. (We looked up the date to make sure. It was not a decade later; it was just 3 years later) We know our first Norman ancestor to arrive in Ireland was Maurice Fitzgerald, and our first Irish ancestors to emigrate to America were 2 boys with just the rags they wore as clothing escaping the potato famine. We have much to research in-between. Maurice Fitzgerald's blood ran in both the murdered Earl and the boys...
Had the misfortune of witnessing with my own eyes the blighted sights of the Wicklow Mountains recently.. good god nothing but disgusting Spruce and Sheep! it's like the Scouring of the Shire and after a sad depressing mountain drive through the old O'Bryne country you come across a remnant of the majesty of what the mountains used to look like in Glen daLough, where for 2or3 miles set aside for tourists it has beautiful scenery of native woodland and afterwards it's more bleak almost lifeless English made and Irish maintained landscape of oppression and sadness imo.
Great historical vlog, everyone check out the song Follow me up to Carlow, lots of versions, but I'd recommend the Bards version. As a Briton of direct Irish descent I love Irish, English, Scottish and Welsh history. 🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇬🇧
Absolutely brilliant thanks Ronan. I’m a direct descendant of Daniel Byrne, Cromwells tailor. I think Daniel was a direct descendant of Fiach mc Hugh. In our family tree, we also have an Honoria Cosby of Stradbally hall, a direct descendant of Francis Cosby, who Fiach killed at Glenmalure. We never knew our family tree until Daniel Byrne Rothwell informed us. It is so fascinating. So many ancestors would be turning in their graves! Greetings to all the Byrne cousins out there.
This channel is criminally under rated.
Many thanks for your support.
Its "File" in the singular,@@primalireland-histcult; "Filí" is more than one poet...
Thanks for the clarification.
Mind you, @@primalireland-histcult, "File" might technically be wrong. I think there's supposed to be a fáda on the 'i'...
To be honest most people are tin well conditioned to give a shite beyond the famous song about que

Nice to hear Fiach is still being used Rory, there's more O'Byrne references in my other video's.

Imagine riding in column up that valley with only a 2 to 1 advantage and them embedded at home of all places. Not bright, not bright at all.
The price of Grey's arrogance.

About 900 English troops were killed and if the Irish clans were united at the time they could have taken dublin afterwards.
If only!
Would Wexford’s “William Wallace” be Art MacMurrough Kavanagh?
I agree, if I ever make some petrol money from UA-cam, I'll call down!
