7:21 the reason why the car is so easy to lose after one spin or slide is that the tires heat up a ton from the friction from the first slide. That heat stays in the tire for a few turns. If they're too hot they won't grip as well and you'll lose the car again. Gotta sorta "chill" for a few turns after a slide
My personal experience in any car is if your turning the wheel half a turn your not braking right. Especially rookie cars most time you hardly have to turn the wheel. Not sure on your set up but the brake pedal upgrade is by far the most important. Iracing is very addicting lol
Laguna Seca is insane with the gravel, it’s everywhere I was still seeing gravel in the post race shower. EDIT: Oh and your F1 channel is by far one of my Favs. Glad to see your on iRacing hopefully we run into each other out there.(well not run into literally)
I definitely can agree, the car surprisingly feels very touch, shifting while turning up or down is a death sentence and getting in the power a bit too early out of a turn will make you feel like you’re on skates. The rear end definitely wants to wash out from under you at all times, but hey like you said that kinda makes it fun. Driving something that wants to kill you lmfao
Love your chanell and your videos! I started playing iRacing too not long time ago so thats nice to see a perspective and races which looks moreless like mine also you seem like I cool person!
Wild first lap! I think this car is probably the best for rookies that want to progress to GT3's. I love the Miata but it's very unique in how it drives.
6:45, you overheated your front left on the first spin which is why the second spin occurred, gotta be mindful of your tyres after having a dicey corner/spin
Good race, nice video! I personally like the new M2, it is faster than the Miata but not by much so a good step toward GT4 class. It felt tall for sure and it took an age to slow itself down but at least I didn't have as much tail wagging as you!
Is the rear swaybar disconnected like they do to you in the Miata? Game changer when I figured that out in the FIXED setup MX5. Yes I had to modify the set up in a fixed race
I've only tested the car so far at Oulton park, but it seems relatively easy to drive. It doesn't like coast off throttle or not braking, as you need one of the other to make the car turn.
I've definitely found it easier with more testing, this was just my first race in it. I've had a load of fun in it at Oulton Park in the two races I have done this week
First time viewer so I have no idea what you've been driving up to this point but I did a season in GT4 BMW M4 and another season in IMSA with a Porsche GT3R so this little M2 is the perfect little pocket rocket compared to those two cars. It turns on a dime, has decent power for what it is and it's a lot more controlled and balanced than the soapbox MX5. I love the GTR3 and I have the most seat time in that car but this is definitely a ton of fun.
Haven't tried those yet. I have driven a lot of Mazda, which i have loved, but this is way removed from that. I did a few more races after this one and actually really started to enjoy it and click with it
@Deckchair_Racing sure, compared to the MX5 the M2 will feel like a fat hog. Compared to a Porsche GT3 or the Ferrari 296 it's a flickable toy. Once you move up to the more powerful cars, your perspective will change on how this M2 really drives. I kind of wish I could experience the M2 without the GT3/4 familiarity I already have and come in as a rookie or an MX-5 only driver to it.
Im the office chair racer - who needs an expensive rig! And you noticed the same as me - that M2 is a dog. I feel sorry for rookies. And I forgot about the gravel. That explains why all the cars are now suddenly squirrely after the first lap!
Hi George I don't know how I found your channel but I'm glad I did. Loving the vids and seeing what's its like in lower rankings wish I had pc but till then im playing gt7 and acc on my ps4 with my trusty controller.😢
This BMW was put in to teach the fundamentals. Learn about throttle control and costing to keep the car smooth. Brake in straight lines. Once you get fast in this car you will be set.
Nice overlay mate :D Think its the great car addition to the base content. MX5 getting old I sometimes let go of throttle when upshifting not to unsettle the car. For just a split second
I hopped on this car when it released and it's fun but suuuper sketchy. These rookie races are phenominal lol. I managed to get pole for a race and I just kept trying to put time between me and everyone. Going through the lapped traffic wasn't fun but it'll keep you on your toes!
Good effort mate, you need to focus on learning trail braking and avoiding half throttle through out the middle fase of corner! As some one said, slow entry with rotation fast exit! Cheers!
Haha that's hilarious. I think I said it in the video but I was chatting to a guy in a practice session who races them in real life and he said they were really similar. It just doesn't feel like a rookie suitable car at all. I'm hardly better than a rookie but it is tough to control
I just started racing the other day and have done 10 races in the formula ford. Just now I got my first win. Started pole but lost 1st on 2nd lap as went off track last corner but didn’t spin. Caught back up fairly fast and went for an overtake on 5th corner as had a lot more speed but he scared me and went off track but didn’t spin again! Eventually passed on the straight on 5th and held 1st last 2 laps. I’m fairly consistent high 1:33 low 1:34 atm.
I am not good around this track. I cannot get the blind corner right. I always turn in too early or too late and I struggle with finding any kind of braking references with other corners.
I find you have to be super smooth to help eliminate it's trailing throttle oversteer Also this car doesn't like to rotate much when you lift off the throttle for some reason
I want to say so many things, but I will just do TLDR version of those :) Google: circle of traction (to address your comment of it not turning). Also: weight transfer - cars like this really feels it (same as Mazda to an extend, but even more, because of weight) Regarding future ahead in relation to the difficulty: do Audi GTO, do Ford Mustang Super Car (new one or legacy). You will see what is difficult :D Then try Porsche Cup car :) Another one regarding turning: turn less degrees - burn less of your tires :) Come in to corner a bit slower, have better exit - it's always better then doing the opposite.
@@Deckchair_Racing 4 days later, I am used to it! I think you have to underdrive it to go fast it feels like. I rarely go below 3rd gear as well which helps
The new M2 an the MX 5 are two of the most realistic cars on iRacing when compared to the real world... You actually have to drive then instead of just point and stab the throttle...
Yeh, the brake sound is terrible, but otherwise, I have actually been loving it. I'm hoping to drive some more this weekend and maybe make another video with it
hey george ive been sim racing for about 16 yrs now so if ya ever want some pointer give me a shout im not the fastest but plenty of experience great vids btw really fun
I got top 5 in my first try with this car. Agreed the car is a pig to drive.. but still not too bad. I did even better in the new wet races with the GT86..
I DO NOT LIKE THE NEW BMW lol.. Ive tried but its awful.. It drives like we have an 800lb Piano strapped to the top of it. If they would let us tighten the suspension bring the toe in some and play with it I'm sure we could get it fast. But my God that stock build is AWEFUL.. Hoping that its just like that while were in this week. That they will hotfix it before th season goes live.. Would be a shame to introduce a new Rookie Car with the subscription and for it to drive that awful.
Mate, you could have nearly won this race if you stayed on track... And this from me who qualified on pole in a 1600 or 1700 SoF race in the same car... And was promptly taken out. Not a big fan of these grids with stupid low SoF. I'll need to get to like 2000 or 3000 iRating before I have any good races. Anyway, you're doing well but... My advice? You're overheating your tires, overdriving the car, and it'll cause you to spin repeatedly, over and over and over. Hope this helps. Regarding your claim that the M2 CSR is the hardest to drive car in iRacing, no, it really isn't. The M2 CSR is easy to drive relative to the F1600, my main car, but you can't overheat the tires. Drive it to its limit but never over. Go ahead and try the F1600 fixed setup, or the Aussie V8 Supercars... I even struggle with the GR86 over the bumps worse than M2 CSR.
It's the hardest I have driven so far. I agree with you, I'm sure it isn't the hardest out there. Thanks for the advice, I'm getting better with it now
I started with simracing this week. The second gear in this car is so scary, especially with cold tires. But I start to get a clean lap from time to time now 🥲
Oh yeh it is mental. Honestly, having driven it for a week now, just don't be in second gear. There is no need for it at Oulton Park this week for sure

Couldn't agree more! It's just going to be a very sharp learning curve for them!
They added blink to the skill tree on the M2!
I know people were complaining about the GTP being unrealistic but this is just rediculous!
Love the overlay. Great addition!
Glad you like it!

@@Deckchair_Racing Btw according to reviews this car was supposed to be stable, but as a rookie this car is far from stable tbh

I did a video from a race of my driving the Formula Vee round it and that wasn't to bad but that car actually turns, unlike the M2!
What program you use for overlays ?
Is it Race Labs?
No, it is just the free version of iOverlay
I agree it is a boat. This car is sliding all over, oversteering every little corner and the TCS kicks power… man
This feel better or worse than the GR’s? I expect these to handle like shit like the GR series and have horrible TC to
100x better
I find you have to be super smooth to help eliminate it's trailing throttle oversteer Also this car doesn't like to rotate much when you lift off the throttle for some reason
Yeh I found that as well with turning without the throttle. I got in the habit of just giving it a little throttle all the time after this race
I think the fixed setup sucks. I have found that braking earlier allows for better rotation and better corner exit.
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go
Honestly thought the MX-5 races helped a lot with this one, but it still wants to squirt around when you put the foot down too much
Yeh you have to be way more careful in this than the MX-5
Road debris in rookies is like rally cross, so if you want to experience M2 in a rally cross…..here it is 😅
Laguna Seca wasn't any better yesterday

I'm not sure why this is a rookie car, when something as easy to drive as the GR86 is a Class D car.
Might want to work on your track position until you learn the track. You seem to be all over the place.
Hard to drive car. It 's more like GT3, use brakes for extra rotation. I do hate the horrible cold brakes sound. But car is fun and challenging.
