Let's get it!! She is 1/2 sec behind Sydney, but peaking right now. It'll be damned close. If Femke beats her, I would not be surprised. Femke races more and is better seasoned against pressure. Sydney is gonna have to deal with a real threat. She doesn't go out of her way to race Femke, so I don't think she is comfortable with Bol. Bol is gonna make her earn it.

She defenitly does, and I might be wrong but she looked surprised with her time only because she did not plan to show her progress on this occasion.....

@johanhavelaar3698 When Sydney started the outdoor season, she was running comfortably in the 52's, but so was Femke. Both are now under 50. This race in Paris is going to be the two of them way out front in a battle.

Not half a second, but only 0.3 seconds. Ofc you're from the US, so your math is self-explanatory

@tomaspapak61 I thought the record was lower than 50.65, closer to 50.38. I am not sure why. With Bol being roughly 1/3 of a sec from the WR, it only further supports my point. In terms of physical distance, that puts Bol right on her hip over a lap, which is negligible considering Bol's seasoning and steady improvement. As I said, they're a lot more equal than Sydney fans like to admit. I would not be surprised to see Bol take it.
Although I'm American, I'm okay with a loss in any event where the best athlete wins. I am disappointed, however, when one doesn't qualify, such as with Athing Mu, who was tripped in qualifying.
Also, we do teach arithmetic in the U.S. If our educational system wasn't the best in the world, our universities wouldn't be so full of smelly and weird foreign students wearing too much cologne. We host more foreign students than any other country, so do the math on what that says about your country.

In Paris it will be less than 50:50 - that’s for sure.

Sydney might make a mistake when challenged. Bol has another gear I think sub-50 is possible.

Trickery to make it seem like she is in the same realm as sydney. Ran on an altitude

994 meter is not even officially altitude. According to the models the aerodynamic advantage of this elevation is about 0.2 seconds on the womens 400 meter. But the 400m hurdles is slower (so less aerodynamic advantage) and also at higher altitude the quantity of oxygen is less, which is a DIS advantage. All in all the advantage will be less that 0.1 seconds. Which is shown by the fact that NONE of the other participants in Bol's race came even close to their personal bests.

I like the performance but I do doubt the time registration there at that small stadium.

Two remarks. 1.) This record was accepted by the IAAF. And IAAF will not accept records from venues where the specs of the track and the time registration, etc. have not been carefully checked by IAAF. So you can be sure that the track and time-registration are correct. 2.) However, this track is slightly at altitude: 994 meter. On the 400m hurdles for women this gives about 0.2 of a second advantage. So even if you discount for this, it still is a very very fast time...

@@rientsdijkstra4266 is it in fact 0,2 in a 400? That seems quite alot.

@@Magnusfication Hm, could be less. But I try to keep it a bit conservative to prevent that people say that I am trying to bend reality in favor of Femke... And with 0.2 her performance is still magnificent...

@@rientsdijkstra4266 "On the 400m hurdles for women this gives about 0.2 of a second advantage" Where did you get that from? Did you also compare wind direction and wind speed? Humidity? Track surface?

    • @rientsdijkstra4266
      @rientsdijkstra4266 3 місяці тому

@@Wuppie62 First of all. To analyse you need to separate things. The effect of altitude is one thing, the effects of wind, etc are other things.
Now about the altitude: there are apps online that let you compute the (estimated) effect of altitude on the performance of runners. I tried a few of them and they give about 0.3 seconds effect for the 400m (without hurdles). But the with hurdles the speed is lower, so the effect of less wind-resistance is smaller, and on the other hand the duration of the performance is greater. So the negative effect of there being less oxygen is greater... So it seems very reasonable (and probably to pessimistic in the sense of underestimating Femke's performance) to reckon with an effect of 0.2 seconds.
Then about wind and that kind of stuff. No I did not reckon with that, because on the 400 meter you always run in two directions so the negative and positive effect will largely cancel each other out (only with very strong winds that doesn't work). But what's more important: influences like wind etc. are always present on all tracks, these do not make this track special. It is specifically the altitude of 994 meters (which is just below the official definition of being "at altitude" (1000m +) that stands out.
What we can say however is that this is the track of a local club and probably does not have a fancy / expensive Mondo or Beynon (or other brand) track surface and will therefore not be super quick in that sense (like the track at Hayward Field for instance)... So that altitude thingy is really the only special thing about this track.
