  • Cat D6 Dozer Controls for Operating, WILL IT START? In this video you'll see how to operate a bulldozer, the controls and driving a Cat dozer. This bulldozer has a Caterpillar (Cat) 3306 diesel engine. Also in this video you’ll see How to transport a Bulldozer and also how to do some basic maintenance all in this UA-cam video .Caterpillar's D6 is a heavy tractor and bulldozer. The company produced the machine from 1941 until 1968. The D6, like other Caterpillar machinery, was intended for industrial and commercial use. The D6's long manufacture time line shows the efficiency and performance of the machine. Caterpillar built the D6 in its Peoria, Illinois factory.
    Engine: The Caterpillar D6 uses a six-cylinder engine. The required fuel is diesel. The piston displacement measures 638 cubic inches, and the engine has a rated rpm of 1,800. Earlier models had an engine drawbar rating of 63 horsepower and a belt rating of 78 horsepower; the total drawbar pull originally was 16,674 lbs. By 1955, the drawbar power had been increased to 73 horsepower and the belt to 93 horsepower; the drawbar pull also increased to 17,486.
    Dimensions: Caterpillar's D6 has a length of 184 inches, a width of 96 inches and a height of 105 inches. The gross weight of the machine measures 33,000 lbs. The company equipped the D6 with front and rear tracks that measure either 60 or 74 inches. The fuel tank has a maximum capacity of 65 gallons.
    Transmission and Features: The transmission of the D6 features three forward gears and a single reverse gear. The D6 can be fitted with a variety of front blades, as well as a diversity of different rear equipment. Earlier D6 models did not feature a full cab that enclosed the operator during operation; however, later models sport a roof and some have a glass enclosure.
    Applications: The Caterpillar D6 can be used for a wide range of applications. The most common use is pushing and clearing earth. The D6 can also be used in some agricultural applications. The company equipped the D6 with its No. 4 and No. 6 tool bars, which allows disc plows, cultivators, chisels, subsoilers and specialized root plows to be attached. The D6 uses a specialized swing arm that attaches to the tool bar; however, if the tool bar is not being used, the swing arm can be adjusted to the front and equipped with a blade.

      Theres a plug in the belly pan to drain the oil on every caterpillar machine

    I have never put a diesel at full rpm's then shut it off before. Seems odd to me. But cool machine. I grew up on one of them. But all cable driven blade and winch.

      Seems to be an old timers thing to do. See it a lot in Nascar and dirt tracks I worked around. Not sure the reason on a diesel though dozer though

      @Jacob-zd4gj 3 роки тому

      That didn't sound like a turbo diesel but that would be detrimental to a turbo. That would be full throttle and then cut off oil supply and let it spin down without oil pressure.

      @@Jacob-zd4gj Yes that is correct and well-known I’m on most mechanics. I’ve got mostly videos of engines that I’m building but have to edit them still. A 327 and a 350 coming up. I piddle on the dozer and my tractors from time to time as needed.

      Dozers are by far my favorite piece of machinery, I am on them often and watch them when I'm not lol.

    Hey mate, great vid….I just picked up one of these old girls at auction… getting dropped down to my farm next week. Runs great, needs a new belly plate but other than that in pretty good condition considering…. I have been unable to hunt down a operator manual online…. Any tips? Is the blade easy to adjust?

      @dhammiam  Рік тому

      Thank you. I found a maintenance manual on EBay. I’m not sure about a operator manual though. I haven’t adjusted the blade yet. I’m thinking it shouldn’t be too hard. Thanks for the comment and best of luck to you

    I have a D6B with 5800 hours on the meter and a Carco F7 winch on the back. because of the winch placement, i am unable to get a serial number or year for the machine. I just had the Radiator re-cored and it seems to work good now. I wonder what the weight of it is. my friend says his International 175B loader weighs about 10000 lbs more and I am not sure about that.. Thank you.

      The D6b I have is 40,000 lbs. I’m not sure about yours but I can ask a friend and comment back. Mine tends to run high temperature so I’m trying to figure that out. Thanks

    my dad was killed by a bull dozer in 1969 , i was 11 years old . he was pushing over trees on a hill to build a ski slope , supposedly a oil line broke and back then they were metal and not rubber , he was standing on the treads and bumped the brake that was to stick up about 3 feet ? i don't see that . anyway it drifted backwards and he fell and it went over him . i also remember him showing us a 2 ton wooden bridge that he drove over with the 20 ton ? dozer > lol

      Oh wow, sorry to hear that 😐 This machine is over 40,000 pounds. I’ve got lots around my property that I want to do with it. Just got a 55 gallon drum of diesel fuel yesterday

    • @JakeMcVea
      @JakeMcVea 4 роки тому +1

      does that make sense with the brake sticking up and bumping it , or do you think something else could have happened from your experience driving one ? thanks alot .

    • @dhammiam
      @dhammiam  4 роки тому

      The lever on the left stops the transmission, like a clutch connecting it to the engine. If that was pushed back it would move the dozer

    • @dhammiam
