      I don't know about that. The kids and parents would always ask to keep coming and start getting annoyed when the owner says no. Then people might sneaking in and tension between owner and fishers would get worse and worse. It happens alot in trout rivers in Australia that go through farmland.

    If you plan on keeping the top of that drain trench open then you are probably going to put some kind of series of steps on both sides so the ducklings can get out. Trust me, they will somehow always, ALWAYS end up in areas that they can't get out of and it only takes a little bit of time for the mother duck to abandon her little ones.

    I had a juvenile eagle fly around my neighborhood once, and you could hear the crows for miles. they traded off attacking and scaring away eagle. It was a crazy aerial display! They chased him higher and higher and for a pretty great distance. It’s neat to observe such crazy intelligence of the crows. It almost seems human like because they really behave as if they are protecting more than just themselves, and they have a concept of value for their environment.

    • @rdizzy1

      Crows do some crazy shit, I once saw them act just like a group of pick pockets does, to steal food from another animal. One or 2 crows will annoy and distract the animal, while a third one swoops in from the other direction and steals their food. Then the other 2 fly away and they meet back up to share it. They are highly social.

    THE DEAD? OAK: If you want to have equal size on all the trees, you should replace the tree as soon as possible. It's probably dead. You check it by wrapping your hand around the trunk, it should feel cold. If you are unsure, compare with the green one next to it. Since all the other trees are alive, you haven't done anything wrong. Talk to the supplier and report it.

    • @codygooch510
      @codygooch510 Рік тому

      So if it doesn’t feel cold it’s dead/dying? Is this a pretty accurate way of finding out if an oak is dying? I hope it works like you say it does. That’ll be revolutionary for me 😂😂

    • @hepaticanobilis9700
      @hepaticanobilis9700 Рік тому +6

      This is a simple and accepted way to find out if a plant is dead. It is about the amount of water in the plant. It is difficult to judge if the plant has died recently, but this is a tree where the sap has not risen in the spring. If you still feel unsure, you can test yourself with leaves. A green one sitting on a tree and a brown (dry) one from last year. :)@@codygooch510

    Just a small suggestion for the trench. You might want to think of putting a four to six inch dam in the trench a couple of feet from the pipe. Something as simple as a piece of angle steel, six inches on each leg, cut to the width of the trench. By putting this into the trench it will stop any mud or garbage from flowing into the pond. At work we had a trench in the middle of the wash rack for employees to clean their trucks and equipment. When I had to take the snowcat to Virginia Peak for my monthly microwave radio and generator run, depending how far down the mountain I had to unload, my truck, trailer and snowcat would be covered with mud. The next day I had to spend all day cleaning the mud off them with the pressure washer, then clean all the mud from the washing pad. The last thing I had to do is clean the eight inches of mud which had accumulated in the bottom of the mud trench. The mud trench had a steel plate slid into a slot a few inches before the drain. Most of the time the mud was up to the bottom of the grates, and after some really muddy trips the mud with be hiding the grates. I just removed the grates and would put sever shovel fulls into a bucket to put into the dumpster. I would not be surprised if some days I had removed near 1,000 pounds of mud from the trench.

    Hey man, great idea to implement that drain.
    One tip, if I may add, is to add like a check dam or a riprap. It's used to control and "filter" polluted soil from entering the water.
    If interested, look up stormwater pollution prevention. Majority of pollutions in water comes from polluted soil, and one way to control that is to implement these "filter" systems on stormwater piping.

    Hey bamabass. Marine biologist here you may already know this but with the pond addition near farming plots please be aware of the level of runoff that is entering the pond! During higher precipitation events fertilizers can run off into the pond and increase the amount of algae that is produced in a short period of time. It can over oxygenate the water and kill the fish and also make it hard to reclaim the water body after it has been overrun. Cheers.

    So I am not a tree guy but, here in the Central Valley of California (think Modesto) the is a fairly common Oak and the leaves stay full and green till December. Them they all turn a deep brown but do not fall off, Then around Easter they fall off in clumps and then go through the bud and new leaf cycle late spring. During summer and early fall they look the same as any other oak. So maybe you got one of these weird oaks in your batch. Love what your doing and really love your pond life segments.

  • @darrellf6434

    Great Horned Owls like the ones you have, don’t usually build their own nests or use nest boxes. They usually hijack nests made by other birds, especially nests made by ospreys and eagles. So if the ospreys make a nest on that platform, you may very well see the owls take it over next nesting season.

    I live in the N.T near Darwin, and we call that species Cherabin. The home of their natural habitat. Great fun for the kids to catch when they get bigger too. Put a ham bone or chicken carcase on a line in the pond, wait until they find it and drag it in. Hours of fun and excellent eating. When i saw that Cormorant I though, "hmmmm he has to go find a new home" 😂 I'm glad you addressed that, in an extremely tactful way too 😁👍. As a Bird nerd, i'm loving watching all your visitors.
