Kylie, what an amazing video! This was some awesome side by side with all the different paints, inks and pencils whew. Thank you for including our stencils in your experimenting adventures. It was great to see your clean plates and when doing these types of pulls really does make a difference. Bravo!!!! And thank you again.
Thank you. Some of the carnival paper is on its way to you so I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. I've actually cleaned my plates again since making this video - it could become a habit lol. And of course I love using your stencils :)
@@KylieCooStudio hehehe I think there is something satisfying about it. We get quite a few comments on the “clean” pulls. Looking forward to trying it out 🥰😘
Thanks Kylie, that was very interesting to see. I was surprised as I thought the shiny side would have pulled the print more readily without sticking, in most cases so an eye opener there for me. I didn’t even know there was a special tissue paper to use with water so a very useful time spent here with you xx
Interesting. When I heard the introduction I was thinking "Good, now I do not have to do that myself". But quite to the contrary! Now I have to go to my studio and try different media, different qualities of tissue papers, rice papers and stuff. I also have some more techniques of gelprinting I would like to try on the different sides of tissue papers. I liked the systematic way you worked, and a good idea to try!! :-)
Must commend you on the clean gel plate….don’t think I’ve seen mine that clean for quite awhile now! Very useful info in this video; thank you for putting the work into sharing all the different mediums!
This was so extremely helpful Kylie! Love that muted turquoise from liquitex- I must get that!! I agree about P’s touch on the gel plate, I have learned so much from her and learning so much from you as well. So now I need to buy some of that tissue paper! Thank you for doing this comparison for us! You’re awesome!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I would be happy to send you some of the tissue paper to try it out. Just message me if you would like me to :)
Kylie-Excellent video! I was just looking at some deli paper tonight and wondering 🤔 which side to use…I noticed a bit more shine on one side of the deli paper compared to the other side and also as it compared to wet strength tissue paper…I’ll give it a go with your approach and the supplies I have on hand…I enjoy the process of discovery! Thank you for sharing this very helpful video! 🙏🎨👍
It was fascinating to see these experiment. I usually use deli paper to make gel prints. Tissue paper is a new frontier for me! Thanks for this great video!
Very useful. Thank you so much. I will use your experiment as a reference. I use a lot of rice paper. I find shiny side down is the best. Your video demonstrated all the variables one might consider.
On her channel, Lisbeth Degn has used fabric pieces on her gelli plate in the past, & made wonderfully textured pieces of collage on tissue paper. I hasten to add that I only mention this because you said that you love to learn different methods with gelli printing, & I haven’t seen anybody else do this, although I have seen Bollenhut Art use foliage & patterned place mats on hers to achieve some excellent effects too. I hope that you don’t take this as either an insult or an advertisement, but as an interesting aside. 🍁
Hi Kylie! This was really interesting. There is a huge learning curve with gelli printing and I Amat the far beginner end....lol. but I am always interested in the the techniques used. They are as varied as snowflakes!
This was enlightening! I have always avoided using tissue paper for a dry pull thinking it would tear--perhaps this Carnival brand is a bit tougher. I also noticed that this paper did not 'stretch' out as much as the brand I have been using. I will watch this again to see if I missed anything the first time through! In doing the side-by-side comparisons, there is no doubt as to how the products and paper perform. Useful information to be sure--thank you!
Thank you so much Kylie I really really enjoyed watching you experiment with tissue paper and show us all how it worked. I really really love ❤️ this and found it really really useful and helpful too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Great video!! Thanks for sharing this! I havent used my mini in forever. If it wasnt boxed up some where down in storage I would pull it out and use it. Have been wanting to get back into mixed media again. I have to use what ever I have around me though. My hubby doesnt want to bring too much up the stairs and have to carry it back down when we move again. xoxo🥰
Hi Kylie, REALLY enjoyed your video and as a beginner to using wet strength tissue these tests really helped me. I loved the Art Alchemy Mermaid Teal paint you used on one of the tests but have failed to track it down on the web. Could you tell me where it's available please. Thank you for the help. Jo
Hi Jo - I am glad you enjoyed the video. I am so sorry to take so long to reply to your question. I actually bought that paint when I attended a mixed media workshop a long number of years ago. It is made by Finnabair. If you tell me what country you live in I will try and find a link for you 😊
Hi Kylie Thanks so mush for your message, now I know where you bought it I can try to find it, no need for you to search. Oh, I live in England by the way. Keep up the good work with the Videos, so interesting and helpful. Best wishes Jo
Just in case you need a link then here is one place I found it - I have not dealt with this particular company before though - www.justlikehomeinteriors.com/art-alchemy-paints
It's not recommended - what would be hard to see from the film is that the heat tool was well above the plate and I was moving it constantly. I was really warming the air above and around it so that hopefully the paint would dry a bit quicker. But you are absolutely right in what you say. Thank you.
I nearly had a stroke when you used a heat tool on your gel plate! It could melt!! Just a thought you might try the “world’s smallest leaf blower” from Amazon - very inexpensive and easy to use, it just blows air without heat!

Just getting into using tissue paper so I appreciate you creating and sharing this video. Thank you.
Thank you
Great video, my gell plate is full of dents and bits missing which gives an amazing result, which I love !!
Thanks Mandy - yes even when these plates get old they can still give a lot. Cleaning my plate really did help a lot though :)
@@KylieCooStudio Everytime I get it out, I think, I'll melt it down and reform it. Then I think... nah!
That was really interesting to watch. I'd never have thought to check. I really love that stencil. So pretty x

What did you say about the tissue paper? “Wet strength”? Is that a brand?
Never mind. I found it in your description.
