I’ve been rocking the Babyface Pro FS for the past week or so. Posting my Apollo on reverb tomorrow. This RME is a game changer. For anyone looking to buy one, just be patient when learning the mix software. It’s worth the learning curve.
I've never had an Apollo so I can't speak on that workflow or "sound" but I would say the main reason is the totalmix software which makes routing anything to anything really fast and easy. Personally I think people exaggerate the learning curve because for me the main reason totalmix is so good is because of how simple and useful it is. That in combination with their top shelf drivers, AD/DA and other pro features depending on the interface they pack a lot of value in those little boxes
so is the idea of totalmix is that you just leave your mics always plugged in and total mix just routes you wherever to whatever you want.@@antoniofontan3934
@@anthonysmithjr.7388The RME conversion is better / The Preamps are better and latency is better! I have directly A/B compared the RME to the Apollo and the RME is significantly better in every regard! The mic pres especially! The Apollo is good, don’t get me wrong but it not in the same league as the RME!
I got the UCX II a little while ago and I'm so happy with it. Surprisingly intuitive and easy to setup, at least from my perspective. I considered the Babyface Pro FS but I'm glad I went for the more expensive UCX II. TotalMix FX now has the RoomEQ feature, which I saw a video using a Sonarworks microphone with it. This should be the last interface I'll ever buy, hopefully. Great video, cheers.
After having been extremely fed up with Audient's and Antelope's Windows drivers, I finally have a UFX III on the way. Excited to not think about audio interfaces for the next decade or more lol
I was using the audio interface from the Push 3 for the last couple of months in my compact bedroom setup and it would crackle a lot even at medium to high buffer sizes. Got the RME Babyface Pro FS now and it runs smoother than anything I've ever tried before. I regret not getting it much earlier.
Stability. Latency. Sound. Routing. Durability. RME user for many years 💛💙 Only ARC USB is disappointing. Flimsy keys (one is broken here already), titles are erased very fast if you touch it with your fingers. And effects are crappy. BTW don't forget to update your Total Mix FX to use Room EQ and crossfade.
I agree 1000%!!! I have the UFX III (and ARC-USB) also and have NEVER had an issue with it. This is the last interface I will ever buy. Thanks for posting.
Extremely informative! I was looking hard at the UCX II for the desk and a Babyface Pro FS for on-the-go... I ended up going with an Apogee Symphony Desktop and a Duet 3/Dock kit for mobility purposes. Both have some iteration of on-board DSP. I really like the mic-pres and converters on the Symphony Desktop... I'm a fan o the Duet 3's form factor... had an OG Duet in the past.
My feelings exactly! So glad folks can find your video. Absolutely love RME interfaces -I have a UFX II and UCX II (Totalmix and DuREC all day), and love VST hosts (Gig Performer, Blue Cat Audio Patchwork). Using these features all together allowed me to go dawless. You can use DuREC to stem out WAVs while processing the I/O of your RME interface with your plugins or outboard gear. The Firefaces team up with everything flawlessly. The new room eq update feature is sweet too!
@Ultraskill23 I'd say just go with the UCX II if you don't need the I/O and do not worry about the sound differences. The price difference is in the I/O and the amount of signal processing mostly. There is a small difference in conversion, but why get something bigger than you need? All of RME's stuff sounds good. My opinion of course.
Just got an Apollo X6 and it sounds amazing. I've been meaning to try RME though. From the examples I've heard, it sounds super clean but I like the vibey sound of the Apollos.
It’s not fair to compare the RME to the Apollo! The RME conversion is better, the mics pres are better and the latency is better! The Apollo is good don’t get me wrong but like I say - they are not fairly comparable.
@@Baron_Greenback I’ve heard some people say differently. I’ll be testing one soon. I have an apogee symphony desktop. People say that sounds better than the Apollo too. I think they both sound good. Its subjective. I’m not a mixing engineer though. If I was I would get a higher end converter.
Seems like a good choice. I've had my RME PCIe card for 12 years and it's still going strong with reported latency as low as 0.7ms on Windows, which is great when using synth VSTs. Then I bump up the buffer size for mix down.
could you explain the use case for having a converter like the ADI-2/4 Pro SE when you already have the UFX III? I haven't been able to understand where a separate converter fits into the picture when the audio interface does AD/DA conversion already
I love my RME UCX II. I run my apollos thru it via adat in and out and now I get the quality of RME conversion and the total mix routing allows me to use the Apollo unison if needed thru the RME.
I had a UFX ii and bought the Apollo x8 off a friend with the idea to test out both and sell on one of them. After a few months of testing I sold the UFX. It’s all subjective - there is no ‘better’. The preamps are more clinical and brittle sounding to me on the RME. Some may hear that as punchier but I found the UAD pres to be deeper and warmer sounding. Both different, neither perfect, neither better.
Just ordered my FF UFX III today, cannot wait to get into it! Total mix is superb too, bit of a learning curve, but once the penny drops it's incredibly powerful. Been using a Multiface II for over a decade now, but need more connectivity and the converters are better on the UFX III too.
I think this is the video I was looking for. So basically I can can use gig performer and it'll allow me to run downloaded plug ins/effects through RME and take load off my PC's CPU?
The UFX III has a lot more expandability. One being Madi - which lets me use all my channels over 96k - ADAT only allows you to use all the channels over 48k. It also has DuRec which is great. I appreciate all the extra analog IO.
The Madi feature on the UFX III, is quite amazing. Such massive channel count. I am surprised it's not more popular with most other Audio interfaces. As it's not even a new concept. But a very Good one.@@decapmusic
i wish EMU was as dedicated as RME its because RME UCX II is so good i am still using my old EMU 1616m with custom drivers i found on kvr audio to make it work on win 10 and 11 the 1616m is the closet you ll get to RME with a 600 dollar interface if i was rich i would buy the RME UCX II in a heartbeat maybe be one day will come you never know
watch out for audient tho! 500 bucks will get 8 mic pres that have incredible specs and "smart gain". sold all my UA crap and got 3 audient evos. they're basically selling out and hard to find in their 1st year of existing.
The knob on my evo8 stopped working after a couple months 🫠 Using it for my portable setup and it couldn’t handle it. But with the software control it’s still usable 🤷♂️
had audient and just got RME interface. Audient can't hold a CANDLE to RME. The sound quality is top notch! It's something you have to try for yourself.
@@evighvitveis oh damn, i didn't know they had issues like that. i am doing my first portable recording job tomorrow too! haha. i will be extra careful with the unit, thanx
@@blvkqmusicgroup they hold a candle to the old apollo i had. that's all i can compare them to. maybe the newer audients have better specs? but yeah, i always hear great stuff about RME

On point 👍🏼 I wanna upgrade my original BF to a UCX II UFX II or UFC III

Agreed, even the RME interfaces from 2007 works perfectly now on the new apple silicon cpu's. RME is the king of audio interfaces.
I love my RME UCX II. I run my apollos thru it via adat in and out and now I get the quality of RME conversion and the total mix routing allows me to use the Apollo unison if needed thru the RME.
🔥 setup
Still using my fireface400 since 07'.. works perfectly. Maxed inputs and outputs and works without hiccup. The only audioface worth it's weight
This is very convincing info to jump ship from UAD lol appreciate it

I had no idea that Gig Performer did that although by name it makes sense. I'll check out your video on how you use it!
Check out the software Live Professor as well. RME made a video about it.
I run a recording studio and I have the same results. Solid drivers
Love my UCXii and ARC. And the company are great.

What's the difference between the adda in the ucxii and ufxii and iii interfaces and the adi2pro?
Solid for sure. Audient check a lot of your requirements as well 👌
I guess I'd never looked but I'd never heard anyone mention Madi. After doing a bit of research, damn I want to upgrade now.
Grat video man! I don't actually need madi. Is it ufx 2 ok or It has a lower quality than ufx 3?
Thanks
How are you liking the Pulse 16 and the converters? How do they compare to the RME UFX III?
Rme vs neumann mt48 (which is better for s home setup) ?
Haven't tried the Neumann but heard great things about it.
Love my UFX3, will be grabbing a ferrorish 16 soon to add some more IOs. But yeah RME just fucking works, also totalmix is god level.
I been loving my Arturia interfaces but maybe I'll get an RME one day
I have a question - In terms of mic preamps and conversation quality , which one is better : RME Fireface UCX III or Universal Audio Apollo x16 ?
RME to my ears
bro we need a studio tour
Agree! Fireface 400 still going strong ... till apple stops supporting it

Ssl12 is a beast of an interface for a 1/3 of rme price
Live Professor is an excellent alternative software for low latency tracking. RME UA-cam channel made a video about it explaining how to set it up.
Live Professor is cool, but I tried both and prefer GigPerformer by a lot. Feels a lot more stable and user friendly to me.
I gotta try GigPerformer out now@@decapmusic
