I love junk silver. When I was a young kid I loved the silver half dollars. One of them would buy a coke, three big candy bars and I would have a silver quarter left over. I felt like I had a lot of wealth just to have them in my hands. Great memories
What do you have now? Diabetes ??? Great trade off ahhh our great decisions. Sorry was only joking and I hope you don't have that but, laughter helps once in a while.
@@mikeellison3254 Back in the 60s, I don't remember having that much candy. Now I have senility. lol. I know I never had a Merc dime. I wouldn't buy junk silver. Outrageous premiums.
My grandfather had a safe that no one could get into after he passed away. My father finally got it open and there are rolls of dimes sorted by years. From the mid 40s to 50s
@@VegasStacker702 how much face value in total just curious, seems your grandfather is a very wise man for not buying proof sets, and setting eye on the already valuable real currency.
In the 1960s and 70s my parents owned 2 laundries as their second source of income. We would go every Wednesday and Sunday nights to "rob" the machines and clean everything. Washers and dryers took quarters and dispensers took dimes. My father taught me about silver coins and my pay for rolling all of the coins was to keep the silver. At age 68, I still have every quarter and dime I earned for rolling probably thousands of coins.
Hey SD, I still have heartburn with constitutional silver. 90% coins (junk silver) should be sold at no more than spot. I can, we can, they can say the coins aren't being minted anymore which is a valid argument. But, beware, your LCS will give you less than spot for it. So buy as close to spot as possible and hold on to it for long term. Happy Stacking all.
I feel the same way I have never felt the urge to buy any junk silver except for a half a dozen Morgan's and Peace dollars because I got them at damn near spot.
$20 times is my limit-did buy at $24 times from harry's during the "those days" just to fill some tubes-but i'll pay 2 bucks for a constitutional dime any day just in case-just me-
Dont buy junk for silver weight, buy it because its fractional and the biggest reason is when silver jumps in price, you have something in hand for barter. No farmer will make change for your 1oz
I just found 58.25 face in quarters hunting quarter rolls this past weekend. stumbled into a collection dump. I was absolutely beside myself, lol. Excellent addition to my stack.
When I was a kid, I had about $400 face value of silver coins from my paper route that I sold for double face value back in the 70s. I thought, I ripped the guy off so bad at the time!
My paper route started me on collecting coins. I loved getting wheat pennies and silver coins when I made collections. I wish I would have bought some gold back then.
Absolutely it is. Coolest and cheapest way for fractional silver. I only have a roll of silver dimes and quarters, plus a few oz of etcs. But its one of the coolest forms. Its real treasure.
Second story. I was a the credit union changing out coins for cash. I'm friendly with the teller and we were talking about constitution silver. She made sure I understood before I cashed in. (I do). She told me about an elderly lady who came in to cash coins from years ago. The machine wasn't taking it. The teller told her about the silver content and to see a coin shop to cash it in. Neither she or I ever found out how that turned out. I hope the old lady was able to get a lot more for the coins than what she thought.
A couple years back I picked up about $36-37 of silver quarters. They were in a canvas bag at an estate sale and priced at face value. Still have them.
A friend's dad gave me a 1922 Peace Dollar when I was a kid and it is what got me into collecting. I love junk silver and think it's great to collect and stack.
I grew up in the 1960's. Just think back at all of the opportunities for stacking back then. Well at 5,6,7 years old I was not thinking of such things. The money went into the cheap metal safe that every kid had. When you had enough, you put it in rolls and traded it for paper. When I got 500 bucks of birthday money, I deposited it all and got my 1964 D five coin mint SMS set. Yes they used to give you a choice of gifts for opening or adding to your saving account. I still have that set. It is just beautiful without a nick or mark on any of the coins. They came in the Whitman plastic hard case of course. The quarter looks like a cameo PR70.
I am just getting into stacking silver snd was so happy to find your channel. I live in the Portland area myself and used to work in the same plaza where Harry’s Coins is located, small world. Keep up the great work on your podcast.
I like the junk because it can be kept in a trunk. No need for tubes or cases. Just throw is in a tin or some empty vases. It's already dirty, it's already scratched. There ain't no need for keeping it wrapped. So go on and buy some and then buy some more. Buy it 'til you need extra support for the floor. A gallon of gas was twenty-five cents in '73 and junk a silver quarter buys a gallon today if you please.🙂

Love junk silver because of the history mostly! Watch some of the old TV shows like Leave it to Beaver when he's "jingling" around coins in his pocket in 1962! Wonder how many of my junk silver coins he spent! Anyhow, I CRH $6700 a week in halves, quarters and dimes and continue to find silver coins every week. Thanks for the educational videos. I have now started stacking and have a long way to go. Started with 10 1 oz bars, 10 10oz bars and 10 grams of gold. Working to get more every month. Keep up the great work.
I inherited coins from my family. We’ve lived on the same land for around two centuries and in the northeast for four centuries. I ended up with a dusty old bag of coins. My family kept cash and coin on hand for the lean times. I a bunch of constitutional silver. Some of it pretty old. Along with pennies and Large cents. I had a grungy piece of copper that I thought someone threw in from an old piece of machinery or something. Got to looking at it and realized it had something unintelligible on it. I cleaned it according to sources and discovered an 1803 Large Cent underneath the grime. I’ve been stacking silver and gold of my own for a bit, but never got the Constitutional Coinage bug until I inherited these. Have been mulling collecting some more. I like it for the historical and numismatic value more, I think. It’s just really cool to hold history in your hand. I’m not sold on the bartering idea. I stack the bullion for savings and it’s turned into a decent investment. Now I have the coin bug. Thanks for your videos. I’ve learned a lot.
I'm working on 3 guardhouse boxes. My halves is full, my dimes is 2/3 full and my quarters are slightly over half full. So, yes I'm buying 90% silver...I have 50 dimes coming in the mail tomorrow.

my favorite and 90% of my stack is constitutional. the history in the coins is awesome in my opinion and and the small denominations are awesome if youre bartering. plus as you said, its a limited amount of it out there and when its a popular season for it, the spread becomes crazy and you gain a great premium if you decide to sell. i love them too...i cant get emough of the merc dimes and the barber halves...prob my 2 favorites other than the 19th century confederate struck coins. those are more into numismatic and less stacker friendly though unfortunately
I got extremely lucky yesterday and got 80 Washington quarters for mere pennies per quarter above spot. Definitely a good thing to jump on if the price is right and you have the storage space
My LCS's are all charging $24 face. Pass. There's a big coin show coming up, so I'll save my money until then and see if I can get some 90% for a decent price for once.
Just started buying constitutional and will continue. Between 3 local LCS's I ended up with a little bit of everything. Love it because it's so dam recognizable. The math is simple also.
pro tip, if you like using the canvas bags like i do, and you dont want to write on or mark up the bag, you can just use a cool rope with a tag on it showing your face amount. that way when it changes, you can just replace the paper tag rather than having a grafitti bag haha
I have a question. What about the newer proof sets from the US mint would it be considered as constitutional silver or junk silver once u open it from the hard case. Ive seen newer 90% silver for sale on ebay. Just wonder on your thoughts
proofs demand a huge premium in my opinion-constitutional 90% silver is on ebay but at a high cost after including shipping-for me-20x is max when you get it to your home-in other words a 1964 dime or earlier for 2 bucks i'm buying-1964 quarter or earlier for $4.50 i'm buying-remember 20 times the face value of the coin i'm buying-my local coin shop beats online prices every day
"Junk Silver" has always been my favorite and the only thing I have stacked since 2017. I love its history and bejng able to just hold it in my hands. Since they no longer make it, I feel that it will eventually command very high premiums. I also like my junk with patina. If it is cleaned, the history aesthetic is pretty much gone.
I like constitution silver. I remember as a kid finding a few mercury dimes (I was about four). Dad put them aside. Near his death he told me to grab the silver and he told me where it was. It was a good amount and of course the mercury dimes were in the pile. Everyone should have some of it around the house.
I love junk silver I was thinking of stacking the standing liberty quarters. Because in an SHTF a standing liberty quarter would be safer because it’s 90% silver and there’s no doubt that it’s clad
Sure, junk is fine to buy. I'm currently buying it, more for diversity purposes than anything else. The premiums are a bit higher than if you were to go with bigger bars, but it keeps things interesting.
I coin roll hunt and have amassed over $280 face value of 90% doing that since the early 2000’s. That’s not counting 40% and war nickels. I’ve slowed down a lot but I’m up to $0.85 face so far this year. It’s still out there folks!
@@Goddessღ It’s never too late to get started… Over the years, the finds have slowed down, but one thing I’ve noticed is that the silver I typically find now is almost always in really nice condition. To me, that indicates that the coins are being reintroduced into circulation. As long as silver coin collections exist, some will find their way back into circulation.
I stopped buying .999 for about 2 years now but not 80-90%. I see that premiums have dipped a great deal so I rest easy in my decision to walk away as those that bought eagles with 80-90% premium are so stuck with a loss. My junk silver is stored away and will one day be more rarer,
I always find the term ''Junk silver'' a sad one given many are such beautiful (if generally common and circulated) coins. I like to imagine their story and the hands they must have passed through over time.
When I was a kid, a silver quarter bought elementary school lunch plus carton of milk (there were no free or reduced lunches back then) and dessert--an orange dreamsickle, was a nickel. and a silver dime bought 2 Hershey bars after school at the candy store! Hamburgers at McDonalds? A dime and a nickel. Ah, the 1950's...
I do like 90%, but I don't go crazy on it. If it's a deal I will pick some up. I stack mainly dimes and quarters, pick up between $25 t $50 face a year.
There is also junk silver in Australia; pre decimal currency in 1966. Exception to this rule was the first and only round 50 cent piece was 80% silver. Pre 1946 silver coins were 92.5% silver while post 1946 were 50%.
I’ve been finding great deals on ebay below spot, even with silver hovering around $34, just have to watch auctions and be patient, as most do sell above spot price.

Picked up 3 Morgans and 12 1964 Kennedy halves for 105 bucks the other day. What a snag
Just bought $20 face in silver dimes and quarters at a coin auction this past Sunday. 18x face.
Great content
I like constitution silver. I remember as a kid finding a few mercury dimes (I was about four). Dad put them aside. Near his death he told me to grab the silver and he told me where it was. It was a good amount and of course the mercury dimes were in the pile.
Everyone should have some of it around the house.
Big like number 226! Thank you so much for sharing!
I love junk silver I was thinking of stacking the standing liberty quarters. Because in an SHTF a standing liberty quarter would be safer because it’s 90% silver and there’s no doubt that it’s clad
I love coins so junk silver really gets my juices a flowin'. Love your channel!
Hello! I have a junk silver Russian Empire, one rubles Nikolaj2 and Alexander3. I like it. It is history! Thanks for your video!
Sure, junk is fine to buy. I'm currently buying it, more for diversity purposes than anything else. The premiums are a bit higher than if you were to go with bigger bars, but it keeps things interesting.
I don’t know if I’d buy it, however I sure try to find it!!
Pretty much the only premium silver I'll keep buying
I coin roll hunt and have amassed over $280 face value of 90% doing that since the early 2000’s. That’s not counting 40% and war nickels. I’ve slowed down a lot but I’m up to $0.85 face so far this year. It’s still out there folks!
Yeah but people like you are quickly reducing it which is further indication we need to get on it LOL
How much junk silver should we own? $100fv $500fv? 1000 oz or $1400 fv? What are your thoughts? Love your content
However much you think you should own. Not what someone else thinks you should own.
I love junk silver and have been accumulating it for a couple of years. Just sold some junk silver and got $1200
Outrageous premiums! Yeah, I know the shops need to run a business.
Constitutional is always worth it. Been stacking it for years and continue to do so.
These coins are real silver change, which was once used as money. The newly minted coins and bars have never been used as money.
I do like 90%, but I don't go crazy on it. If it's a deal I will pick some up. I stack mainly dimes and quarters, pick up between $25 t $50 face a year.
My preference is Liberty Half Dollars for the many of the same reasons you like the Mercury dimes.
Good job thank
There is also junk silver in Australia; pre decimal currency in 1966. Exception to this rule was the first and only round 50 cent piece was 80% silver. Pre 1946 silver coins were 92.5% silver while post 1946 were 50%.
I’ve been finding great deals on ebay below spot, even with silver hovering around $34, just have to watch auctions and be patient, as most do sell above spot price.
