I lost it at the "If any BODY, knows" line. Well done Dan
I am very sad that these episodes are getting shorter :(
me too man
Agreed. I've re-listened to so many episodes to get my BranDan fix 😅
Yup ive complained for the last 10+ posts but they dont seem to give much creedence to it
@@mayedalshamsi5726I think they’ll start getting longer again in the new year. The last few months have been insanely busy for dragonsteel. Finishing up SA5 first draft, signing leatherbounds for next year, the convention. I think they’ve just had a lot on their plates for such a small company
I’ve come to dislike the food heists because they cut into the main topic of the episode
I am Jewish. Christmas Eve for me is ordering Chinese food. As a result, I am adding Chinese food to the S tear.
This episode has truly the most insane opinions you two have ever exhibited on this podcast 😂
The sweet potato dialogue was outrageous.
Outrageously truthful
Sweet potatoes>potatoes
@jaredpoulter6762 I'm irish, this is honestly almost more outrageous.
I really like sweet potatoes too.
Have to wonder if it's more a problem about the way they serve those in the U.S. like... why are they talking about throwing a boatload of sugar on them? There's no need for that, they taste great without that. If you eat them as fried potatoes, then it's salt anyway, or am I the only one thinking that?
But then again, I couldn't care less what others eat. As long as they don't mess up MY food XD
The trick to good sweet potatoes is to NOT add sugar to then. Butter and salt (or just salt for the fries) is the way to go. They are already sweet! They do not need more sweet!
Dan going off on the brie cheese is now my favorite moment of this podcast.
I've been waiting excitedly for the last two weeks to hear Dan talk about the Australia food heist. It was big news in this part of the world, even made the front page.
If anyone is wondering - they caught the person, but it took two weeks to find her.
Eggnog is basically melted ice cream and it's delicious.
Dude I got a vanilla eggnog at the grocery store and it literally tastes like an eggnog milk shake. It’s delicious
Yes, I know, especially vanilla ice cream. Interesting trying different flavors of eggnog. I really like cinnamon eggnog
Tastes like liquid bubble gum to me, no bueno
Yeah I’m not sure what Dan and Brandon are drinking based on the description, but I had some home made and it was amazing
🤣🤣 I love Dan and his sense of humor so much.
"three meals a day"
Alternate Title: Brandon ranks food based on holiday genre and Dan slowly has an existential crisis over food definitions
5:55 is the best moment in Intentionally Blank history. This whole section legit sounds like it’s from a stand-up special. Dan is awesome.
I'm with Dan on this one. Turkey for any holiday as long as it has all the trimmings!
Counting numbers are all positive integers 1 and larger
Whole numbers are all positive integers 0 and higher
Both are subsets of the sets “all integers” and “all numbers”
Love the podcast!
This depends a lot on who taught you (and who taught them) - there are multiple definitions for the terms "natural number", "whole number" and "counting number".
Everyone agrees what the integers are - all the numbers you can get by adding and subtracting 1: ..., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...
Natural numbers are positive integers, possibly also including 0 (how natural a number 0 is depends on context), and so are counting numbers (you can start counting from 0 before you count off the first actual object).
Whole numbers sometimes means all the integers, sometimes non-negative integers (including 0), and sometimes positive integers (not including 0).
You can't even rely on a given person using the different terms to mean different things - some people treat natural and counting numbers as synonyms; others treat one as including 0 and the other not (either way around).
"we should stop here" is often my inner monologue
Dan is talking about Christmas Stollen, i think.
I came to say that- my wife’s family makes it and the first time I had it my inmediate thought was “ooh, this is like an edible fruit cake”
100% in agreement with Brandon's opinion on mashed potatoes. Butter. They need nothing else. Although, once I mixed in a bit of ranch dressing instead of butter to see if it would be decent and they were not bad. Butter is still the best though. :)
Truffle oil! And maybe some chives for seasoning. Butter and milk while you cook is my way
Worchestershire sauce
Christmas Carol has a goose as the poor dinner that Cratchet had before Scrooge sends the prize turkey in the morning.
Sweet potatoes are nice because they actually do have an intrinsic flavor. You really don't need to add that much. I just do butter, maybe cinnamon, and sometimes mozzarella
as a norwegian, the yam/sweet potato and marshmallow casserole has always seemed like an insane concept
I grew up in the US and it was never served at any of our meals. I didn't know that preparation was done until I visited my wife's family for Thanksgiving one year. Definitely not for me. There are better ways to serve sweet potatoes. They also added maple syrup to theirs. Sweet potatoes are sweet enough for me without adding more sugar.
@@Jasmobiusvery true, a nice sweet potato pie is better.
@@Jasmobius Adding sugar to sweet potatoes seems so weird to me. But then again... it's probably one of those things where it's custumary to serve them that way?
@@Spagettigeist theyre americans, dont try to understand why, its impossible, they just do things wrong
Dan really made me want some eggnog.
Same. Cheers 🥂
Gorgonzola and steak is one of the best flavor combinations there is.
Quite the takes from Brandon here. No gravy on mashed potatoes? I'm never reading another one of his books!
...ahh what the hell, that's a lie
Brandon, Dan and the team, I love this podcast, it brings me joy and so much fun. I hope you guys get to make this for a long time. All the best from a fan in Spain!
Just bake your sweet potato for like 2 hours and it basically caramelizes itself. Delicious!
@BrandSanderson Can we please ask Dan to write this posh kid Donald in one of his books and voice it? Made me spit my drink in the tube when I heard him. It’s pure gold, please Mr. Wells, we need more Donald in our lives!!
Thought you'd catch me slippin
While I do appreciate the dedication to pushing out content the thing that I am ACTUALLY thirsting for is the livestream. I’ve been dying to hear more of it since it went down last night! Any idea when Koloss Headmunching Day 2023 will go back up/be reuploaded?
It's on Twitter right now if you don't want to wait
Not sure I can access that from my phone since I can’t get the all but thank you for the information! Hopefully it can help others with the same predicament.
It will be up when they fix the audio issues.
This episode was delightful. I finally remembered to come here and comment this a month after I listened to it.
This is the content I subscribed for!
Omg I love food talk 😄!
This is probably my favourite episode to date 🙌🙌💝
Also non-food related crime puns have to become a thing 😂😂Absolutely hilarious 🤣
I laughed out loud so much in this episode!!
Welcome home! Merry Christmas 🎄
Agree 💯 Turkey is Thanksgiving. Christmas is game meats and fouls - goose, duck, leg of lamb, venison, etc.
For fruit cake you need to at least try English Fruit Cake, German stollen, and Italian Panettone, Irish barmbrack, Polish keks and Dundee cake, there are more probably, but that is a start.
The down under plunder wonder truly tore me asunder 😏
So excited to watch this after work!! ❤
Does anyone know if the Koloss Head munching birthday livestream from yesterday will be posted to rewatch?? Please I hope so because I missed it!!
Think about it, Santa is the greatest food heister of all time. But they leave it out for him, you say. Why? Because they know he can enter their house at any time. An omniscient being tells you they are visiting a certain night and that he enjoys cookies, you're gonna have cookies left out for him. But he leaves toys, you say. Yes, this magnanimous creature shows you he can go get cookies anywhere, anytime. But he wants your cookies. He wants your loyalty. Heist by extortion.
Sweet potato chips are great with a lot of salt, it's a food enhanced by flavour contrast, like salted caramel / peanuts and chocolate.
I loved all of the intentionally inappropriate jokes. It makes me happy.
One of my favorite ways to eat sweet potatoes is sliced up raw as part of a vegetable platter. (Think really sweet carrots). But as for the roasted kind, I prefer them roasted with salt, pepper and oil.
My favorite guys! 📣 🎉 🕺
Brandon brought back the best childhood memories of King B jerky!!
Dan: "Candy canes!"
Me: Is that a food..?
Dan: "Is that a food?"
High five, Dan.
I did not expect both Dan and Brandon to be on my side of The Sweet Potato Wars
Week 5 of persistently asking for an Intentionally Blank Episode on Marching Band
Love it! Anyone know where the livestream from yesterday went?
Egg nog belongs in S.
I agree with Beef Jerky. My family makes it every year and puts it in our stocking. S Teir
Yule log cakes are FIRE
Eggnog is literally the one thing on here I'd put above everything else
Yes! S-tier all the way. One thing I"lol do is use it as an ingredient, for things such as chocnog, eggfredo, and pineapple pancakes. Also makes a good sauce to go over sweet potatoes.
I am with Dan on his tier list. 🤣
I used to think egg nog was great, and then I stopped drinking alcohol. I realized that booze is what made egg nog great. I agree with them on this.
Good idea on the tier list, I am 32 and am always looking forward to a good TL
Dan saying that he would drink gravy, what he needs is Bovril. Basically a drinking gravy. I think it's just a UK thing though, but I'm sure you can import it.
Mashed potatoes is almost two different foods imo. If its super mashed, or powdered you best be putting gravy on that, but if its Mashed with chunks still in it, its better with just some extra butter.
Though I'm with Dan, gravy fits nearly everything.
I love Dan's coaster ;)
Sweet potatoes/yams don't need sugar or anything else on them, especially if they are in a super hot oven for 40+ minutes where it caramelizes in its own juices. I think they are more tasteful on their own than russet or red potatoes.
Hot dog candy canes sound atrocious. Good luck to your kids :P
100% with Dan about eggnog. It's its own negative tier.
That was a very entertaining video
I don't know about Brie for Christmas, we were never that fancy. We did have squeezy cheese though, and I definitely put that at Christmas S tier!
I object! Tuna Mac is amazing.
Literally watched this while making gourmet mac and cheese
I was so here with you guys for awhile, especially for the the yams. That is, until you both said you don't like MILK!? Unconscionable. Eggnog is also delicious. 😂
Dan doesn't like sweet things, but he loves Apple Jacks?
And pecan pie and cake 😂
I have to stop watching these at lunch, the spit takes are killing me 😂 off to get a towel…
I almost agree with Brandon on turkey, but with one additional exception: turkey legs at Ren Faire / festivals.
Dan: sweet potatoes are gross. Y'all are weird to like them
Also Dan: I don't like candy
Merry Christmas to you and you weird palette, Dan you guys are the best 🤣
As a Buffalonian, I have to stand up in defense of bleu cheese. If you are not getting it in Western New York -- if it does not look and feel chunky -- if it is not randomly spelled like a French word for no discernible reason -- then you are getting an inferior imitation of true bleu cheese. Come here, put it on your wings, and fall in love.
(as a salad dressing it's kinda weird though, never quite understood that.)
Wow. I have never felt more parasocially connected to Dan. 😂
I could not agree more about the sweet potatoes
Great episode! I would love to know the name of that beef jerky you get from Michigan. Does anyone have any guesses?
Yams and Sweet Potatoes are different things. Most people think sweet potatoes are yams. Yams are far more starchy and require sweetening while sweet potatoes have a lower starch content with a natural sweetness depending on the type.
Always love these.
But random question not related to the podcast. Is there any reason why the Koloss Head Munching Day 2023 stream on demand isn't available? I couldn't catch it live, but always like to listen to them.
They were having trouble with sound and video syncing. Adam commented during the livestream that he would fix it before uploading.
@@vdoyne Thank you for the reply. As someone who didn't get that announcement, I appreciate it!
To be fair, waffle cut, french fried, and salted sweet potatoes are insanely good.
What I don't like about hot chocolate is that it is often served crazy hot and burns your tongue so that you can't taste anything for the next few days. Adding eggnog cools it down and gives it a richer flavor.
The greatest things i can unite with brandon on is I just cant eat any fish
If you have a fruit cake that's dry, someone did the fruit cake wrong. They're dense, and should always be *moist*, preferably via regular dosings of rum (which of course would likely preclude D&B from partaking in those in particular, but I digress). If you don't have a great-grandmother nearby to make one with copious amounts of rum, check out Claxton Fruit Cakes. My late grandfather had them at every Christmas gathering since the '50s.
I've definitely had the moist fruitcakes that have almost none of the bread part, but at a certain point you might as well just be eating candied dates or a pecan pie.
What makes hot chocolate even better is eggnog. My family calls it chocnog, and pumpkin spice chocnog is even better.
You got a thumbs up for Apple Jacks & I have liked maybe at the maximum a dozen videos.
"if any...body...." lol this guy should write dark horror stuff
OMG …if the recipe can be found, Ben McSweeney’s grandmother’s fruitcake was awesome…baked right after Halloween, it contained an entire fifth of Jack Daniel’s.
even though some of your opinions are wrong this was an "S" tier episode. laughed a lot :D
Dan, cops are always allowed to make donut jokes. Lol
There are debates that 0 is not a number. It is by definition not having a number.
I had to miss last night because of work are they releasing the episode afterwards
Hey are you uploading the Koloss head munching day stream? I missed it :(
Sweet Potato defense! They have so much more flavor than potatoes. Potatoes need so much salt and fat to make them good, but sweet potatoes can actually be tolerated with just a little topping (not marshmallows, those are gross)
Hang on, was the van driver just in the petrol station paying? I don't know about elsewhere, but in Australia Krispy Kreme is primarily sold at 7-Elevens, and 7-Eleven is also one of our largest petrol station franchises. So when I first saw the headline, I assumed the truck was there to deliver the doughnuts.
YOU BAYARD; TURKEY IS amazing!!
Brandon's right, mashed potatoes are perfect, just butter and salt and pepper and you're good, gravy is totally unnecessary.
I once wondered why it is we eat the same food every Thanksgiving, then I remember that is the only time we eat those specific foods.
Baked/smoked sweet potatoes are awesome. Otherwise, not so much
OH NO! Brie cheese and sweet potatoes are my favorite, and also one of the best things about living in Durham, NC. Brandon and Dan are hereby cancelled.
I'm not going to try and argue with these guys on their pics even though both of them were objectively wrong on many of their rankings, but I just want to say for Brandon, if you don't like cranberry sauce, you should try the recipe for snowberry sauce out of the Skyrim cookbook. I was never huge into cranberry sauce until my wife made that and now I can't have anything else. You can put it on your turkey. You can put it on ice cream. It's delicious. It's spiced with warm holiday spices and it's just wonderful.
If anyone knows where the half-eaten body is located, please throw us a bone.
Anyone who dislikes both sweet potatoes and egg nog doesn't deserve Christmas.
yams and sweet potatoes encompass a wide variety of tubers. has brandon eaten sweet potatoes in korea?
Hey Dan, my dad loves mystery but hates supernatural elements. Do you have any books he would like?
G for eggnog ? As long as G is for Great!
“People love their sweet potatoes because they have bad taste and make poor decisions.” - Dan Wells
I mean, I don’t disagree with the ranking (sweet potato fries aside. I was genuinely shocked at how much I loved them when I first tried them, because I can’t stand sweet potatoes otherwise), but I’m not sure someone who disparages the cinematic masterpiece of Ratatouille is in much of a spot to cast shade on people having bad taste… 😂😂
As a Canadian, butter tarts = S tier
I've looked into it, and cut off for Millennials and Gen Z is very fuzzy. But usually around 2000
