How to Fix the OnePlus 8 Power Button!

- The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are amazing phones and I absolutely love them! There was one thing that annoyed me though. When you hold the power button down it activates the Google Assistant instead of taking you to the Power Menu. In this quick video, we show you how to get the normal Power Menu back!

Oh my. Thank you so much. I thought my phone was trippin when i was trying to switch it off. I even did a voice command to switch it off🤦 and i was tellin my self that maybe the oneplus 8 pro was not meant to restart/turn off😂🤦
Lol it was driving me crazy too! It's a cool idea but it most definitely shouldn't be the default option!

LOL I had the same reaction! I can't remember off the top of my head but I think if you hold Volume Up and the Power button it will let you shut it down. That's just not intuitive though. I really do not like this setting!

Oh yeah, that one was just as bad! I did a video showing a similar process WAY back on the Galaxy S8. I believe a power button should just be a power button. Quit trying to hijack it into other weird stuff! :D

Lol amen! I actually love Google Assistant but I hate that it's always popping up when I'm trying to restart my phone. I like it much better with the standard behavior. :)

I have issue one plus 8 pro the problem is I'm having issued unable click any links for example I received email with videos link it don't let me redirect me even website ?
That's a strange one. I've never heard of something like that before! I would check to make sure that you have Chrome installed and that it is up to date. I would then check the Default Apps settings and make sure Chrome is selected to open links. Beyond that, I don't know what to tell you. Sorry!

Agreed! I applaud them for trying something new but they should've given us the option or made it more apparent what was going on. The good news is that they heard us loud and clear and after those initial updates, they went back to the regular behavior.

How did they intend for people to turn off the phone originally?
They made it so that you had to press the power button and volume up at the same time to power down. With future updates they added a help screen that shows you how to do it the first time you try to use the power button the way you would normally. It shows you both methods and then gives you the option to change it back to the normal behavior. I don't know why that wasn't thought off when they rolled out the original release though. lol
@@EpicDroid thanks for answering that. I was really confused how they expect the people to know that. I might have gotten that message but I don't pay attention to anything that pops up when I'm setting up a new phone LOL

This is not how to fix it, this is how to change its function. My home button is actually not functioning. Misleading video title
I apologize for the confusion. The issue in the video is that OnePlus changed the button's functionality and made it so it doesn't power off your phone. Any user who comes from another device will see it as broken because it is literally the only phone manufacturer that does this. That being said, we'd love to try and help you figure out your issue. What seems to be the problem?

Lol I did too when I first got it! I knew there had to be a reason for it but couldn't figure out what it was at first. Cool idea, horrible execution having it as the default option.
Well I thought it was more a customization than solving an annoyance lol.
For me the annoyance was that they made it the default behavior without telling me about it. The default behavior should match literally every other phone out there! Lol
