- What were we thinking! We are trying to rewild our place and fill it with wildflower meadows - but our biggest obstacle has been how to cut the grass.
No Mow May wasn't supposed to be this difficult!

We cut paths through our meadows,here,near Stoford,but cutting it in the autumn,and taking takes a lot of effort.We do have suitable machinery.Looking at showing more wild flowers.

I'm having some success with yellow rattle in grassy areas of a few hundred sq.m, two years after sowing the sward height is down from around 80cm to around 50cm.
My aim is "lazy grass" rather than a wildflower meadow so I'm mowing just once in late autumn with a walk-behind mulching mower and leaving the clippings.
That probably doesn't help in those much larger areas that have to produce good hay as you show here. Maybe for smaller, less accessible areas?

Thank you. We've got so many videos that we haven't edited yet - but they are coming! Henrietta is fine thanks. We're giving her a daily dose of painkillers for her arthritis now and it's made her much perkier.
Let the grass dry a bit,before composting.

Why even cut it? I have an acre - I just LET IT GROW. "Unsightly mess" in autumn? Get used to it! Get used to a new aesthetic. (I see the sense of autumnal haymaking to feed livestock, however).
I'm into total rewilding, leaving 20th century ideas of 'neatness' and 'perfection' where they belong.
Valid point. We might give that a try this year.
