  • A rather long description of living with the Yamaha J-6 Diversion F, preceded by a bit of an incident with some diesel that happened as I was getting ready to start vlogging about the bike. This one is in response to a request from MrRichyMoto.

    I rode bikes from 74 till 89, and sometimes i get the old urges especially in the warmer weather. I honestly believe the xj6 diversion is the best value bike out there at this time. One day i'll get past youtube and actually buy one. Stay safe Mr Calm.

    Bike gearboxes are funny old things. Sometimes they're as smooth as a Swiss watch, and sometimes they're lumpier than school custard. The key is keeping the chain tension right. Delboy has some really good videos about gears and chain tension, he explains it better than I ever could.

      Yes, I keep checking that. So far it's still within range. The three bikes I've ridden have all done the same so I'm assuming it's either normal, or me!

    You did get my name right CB. Thanks again for the time you took with me and my 1080p problems. All sorted now.
    My Drift HD Ghost S arrived today so I'm hoping UA-cam doesn't mush-up those files. :)

    Seems you echo most of my thoughts on the XJ6, though I've never had it being reluctant to go into first. A little clunky maybe, but it always engages. I recommend getting it on a trackday to show what it can do, it may surprise you!

      Chrus600 I'm planning one but I'll probably take the Z750R.

    I recently fitted oxford heated grips for the first time of ever having them, and they work really well, I have done a video of me fitting them if you wont to check it out, as for doing your own oil change, I am sure you will have no problem with that job, it very easy to do on most bikes, the hardest bit is getting the filter off, and it's only hard if the space is a bit tight to get your hand in to unscrew it.

      Cheers Garry. I'll take a look.

    This time of year is never good for greasy conditions. At least its not icing or snowing yet! Though only riding a GN125 through winter I never have any power to get off the line to begin with!

      You are right. It's the damn diesel everywhere at the moment though. Time to ban diesel cars I say ;-)

    Diesel is fucking lethal, you can hardly see it invisible whilst riding!! It's had me off twice even just the smallest puddles when going not even that fast (always on a corner of course!). There should be much, much heavier penalties for people spilling it!

    I seem to prefer having the bike weight to be honest. I've rode on of these and that weight just seems to plant you. I felt so comfortable and "safe" (lol yeah right on a motorcycle) due to it.

      True... I'm not complaining, if someone gave me their keys to their bike or car i'd take it.

    I would say it was the combination of the smooth road surface, The Wet and Diesel, Bit of a long one this, "That's what she said" 22 minutes! who do you think you are, "ME" lol,
    Nice bike but if abs is available then don't you think it should be as standard,? but be able to turn it off. My bikes a 1300 V Twin and it's supposed to do 54MPG, never checked, Did you say you had a Grumpy Gearbox, lol, never heard anyone describe it that way, Ride Safe Bud.

    • @CalmBiker
      @CalmBiker  10 років тому

      I think it used to come with ABS as standard but they removed it to bring the price down. It might have helped me the same day when I locked a back wheel riding through Hull, again on diesel. Damn stuff is everywhere at the moment.

    Oxford heated grips - I am still wearing my summer gloves everyday

    • @CalmBiker
      @CalmBiker  10 років тому

      I'm considering some after watching a video about them. They work well I take it?

    • @Tripl3blue
      @Tripl3blue 10 років тому

      CalmBiker I guess its personal thing never used them before wasn't convinced but like I say I am still in summer gloves, I would say my daytona 955 fairing is pretty good at keeping the wind off my hands though so that may be helping plus been fairly mild this year so far. The grips are nice as well even if they weren't heated, very easy to fit.

    In my (limited) experience, when my bike becomes difficult to down-shift it's time for an oil change! ;-)

    • @CalmBiker
      @CalmBiker  10 років тому

      It's only very occasional from second to first. I hope it doesn't need an oil change because it's done it since I owned it, including after the first oil change. :-o

    With regards to the dash, does it enable you to covert from mph to km for continental riding?

    • @CalmBiker
      @CalmBiker  10 років тому

      I wasn't sure so I checked the manual. It says that you can. If I remember, I'll video that and try it out. You can then see me riding at 100+, ha ha!

  • @suznet
    @suznet 10 років тому

    If you get 55mpg on your own & with your riding style (steady) then that is not that good, with my riding style on my 750 I can get 55 mpg all day long, when I was running it in I got 63+mpg &mine has an mpg computer/thing built in!

    • @CalmBiker
      @CalmBiker  10 років тому +1

      I might go a bit less steady when I'm not vlogging ;-)
