Patti page was a huge star. I had a friend who was from Tenn. and any time Patti would sing "Tennessee Waltz" he'd cry. No matter where/when. It was a huge hit for her.
This is such a stunner. Would love to have this as a studio recording. She recorded it and "Indiscretion" in 1955 for her TV series in early stereo, but I would wager the fidelity is not as good as this
Dear Butch: the movie, Indiscretion of an American Wife, was quite short, and so it was decided to preface it with a moody introduction featuring Patti Page singing these two songs. The Intro was filmed by James Wong Howe. The songs were created from the background score written by an Italian composer--I'm not remembering his name. But the score was recorded on an old ten-inch LP. --Lloyd Kropp
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Is this a short Patti did? Where did you get this clip? I see at the end she starts singing "Indiscretion". Do you have the rest of that cut as that is one of my favorites by Patti.
A very odd decision was made to preface the film with what essentially today we would call a music video. Patti certainly got the best talent to film her, light her, arrange for her her. The song :?ndiscretion:" was one of Patti's best recordings and eventually became the title track of an album long after the film was released. Patti;s album career was always a jumble. Mercury had no talent for album concepts or cover art, would release songs repeatedly on different albums, when stereo came in would issue different versions of an album in mono and stereo, would issue albums for its low price Wing label with the same titles as its full-price albums and on and on and on it went. I always thought that Patti belonged on Capitol.
God knows where it is. I live in a big house jammed with videos, tapes, DVDs, unreleased recordings, duplicate masters I store for friends at record companies since there have been numerous cases of company vaults being flooded or harmed by fire. I know I have the Copa engagement where Lynda Laurence did the leads and the Supremes were Mary, Lynda and Cindy.
***** I have the Copa recordings on a tape cassette somewhere in my basement. There's no unloading of it, it was recorded at a table side, I don't have rights to the music and I don't have any way of copying cassette tapes any more. I can tell you Lynda is flawless in her performance and Mary and Cindy sound ebullient, as they would be with this patched together engagement working out successfully.

Even thought I am not born in years where she became known I always like the way she sings. Like the message of the song!
sweet lovely song... classy pretty woman...too bad i am now learning of her right after she passed away.
Not only does she sing the song she acts the song with a sadness of a woman who has lost her love
🎋I love her Christmas songs & the old cape cod song🥰
Great lady of American song

(((❤️))) Piece of art!!
This version features a motif from Alfred Newman's "Street Scene", also used as an overture for 1953's "How to Marry a Millionaire".
Waiting for the rest of this clip!
thank you so much for posting this!!!!

What’s the melody first played? I’ve heard it before. Can someone help me
It is 'Street Scene', from the 1931 film, re-used in lots of other films!
Tony Bennett has a great version of this song out
No sound on this video

Wayne Brasler Why don't you record the show, with your phone?
You are correct. Mercury was a fine company for her early career.
