THE MOST IMPORTANT THING SINGLE MOTHERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DATING

  • My mom was a single mother, so I have seen what you guys struggle with first hand from the point of view of the child. I've also dated single mothers and I so have alot of my friends. I'm not saying that I'm an expert, but I have noticed something that I believe all single mothers should be aware of. Especially the new single mothers, because they probably haven't experienced what I'm talking about for themselves yet.
As you know, dating as a single parent can be a very hard thing to do for alot of different reasons. Specifically for women it's more intensive, because alot of men view you as less valuable. Not because you are less valuable! But because alot of men see all the things that come with a woman with a child as harder to deal with. You won't necessarily be able to come running when they call, there's potentially another man in the picture, and if he were to fall in love with you and want to marry you, he would now have to take care of a child that's not his. I've heard all kinds of different reasons in regards to why men should never be in relationships with single mothers. But it still won't stop a man from wanting to get in your bed. That's why I'm making this video. I want you to know that alot of men will use the fact that you are a mom against you and will also use that very same thing to his advantage. He doesn't see a future with you, because you have a kid. Yet, he knows that you will likely only entertain guys that could one day be a good step father to your child. So he'll play the part until he gets what he wants. This is the most important thing single mothers need to know about dating.

If you are raised by a single mum whatever colour. You know the Hert , x only God who made you in His image x knows the plans He Made For you, can help you,he was abused on the Cross for You. He had no Mum.since 2 y.o. x was in childrens homes moved around agains his will. X my mum housebound because she was Beautiful high value. For 27 years my Dad locked her up x hid her. As lots of Men like a selection of women. My Husband fell in love at the childrens home.x she became Famous x won the euro song contest x married a rich man. My Husband always loved her x proud of His ex x bragged about going out with her, every time she was always on t.v. explaining why he was with me, because although I am not much to look at like Her, I work all night cleaning for money to buy his Cars x things x I live only for Him. But his catch praise was , I have to go! He had a huge breakfast with his mates, at auctions whilst my mum baught me x baby nappies x food. I went through bins for flowers after I gave birth to pretend he Had baught them, x any gifts on Christmas etc , I had to pretend he loved me, x baby. So I devorced as wasn't a marrage was it. So please people let love come 1st Both of You!. I married because I really loved Him, x knew he never loved me, I still love him but know now marrage can only work with 3, God! 1st You, x She. Hey thanks for the video. I've dated or talked to several single fathers. Two in particular were decent, but our differences made us go our separate ways. One was promising, but we clashed in communication style. The other actually propose to me, but I declined. I wasn't desperate enough to say yes, just so that I could carry the title of wife.
Right now I'm talking to two gentleman, both single father's. It looks promising. My advice for single mothers. Date single father because they're childless leverage with them. He to has a child which makes him less "desirable". They'll claim it's not the same for women as it is for men. It's true only to an extent, and greatly depends on the type of woman. You have a much better chance with some who has children like you. They're more likely, to want marriage but it's not a guarantee.
Just be careful of the ones who are " divorced" or separated. One lied and said he was divorce and I didn't find out until months later. If they don't haven't separated legally, then he's still married. Don't waste time with those either. Ask to see divorce papers. I hard to learn the hard way to not take a person's word for it.
Ask about custody. You want to know who has custody and if there's child support. Why? Because if he owes back child support, and gets married, the ex can take him back to court and garnish your paycheck and his. Also your tax refund for go the the baby mama if he's behind.

I was raised by my step father and till the day he died I called him Dad. He never made me feel less than for not being his biological child. He was there when I graduated boot camp and he was so proud of me. I stood at the foot of his bed as he passed away and I held his hand til the end. My mom was the firstborn of those 4 and the " baby" was my moms " big brother" After she was born. Since my mom was born with no hands my uncle Billy was very protective of her. Sometimes " step dads" are really kinder than " biological dads," but he does have a point. My mom was not always careful about men . At my previous job as a social worker for abused & neglected children. I had several trainings. One of the things I learned is that single mothers are prime targets for predators. Many single mothers are seeking a replacement father, predators know this. I also learned in these trainings that predators will seek out overweight single mothers, in order to get to their kids. I’m just telling you what offenders shared in group therapy. I’m a single mother , and I realized many years ago that I do not have it in me to date and raise my daughter. I chose to focus on my daughter, and figure the rest out later. I’d also like to point out , I cannot stand when men hit on me when my daughter is with me.

Dads are the ones that should be shamed for not raising their kids and leading as the head of the household. That’s the reason why the black community is at a disadvantage compared to other groups. Shumake spoke on not being able to pursue a career in baseball, and that’s a reality for not only children that are in single mother homes, but the mothers usually have to sacrifice their dreams. I’m single and a med student. I believe young women and men need to be encouraged to get an education and have a career or build a business while their younger to prevent this cycle in the community. At a young age there’s no way of determining a good relationship or life partner because the maturity and stability isn’t there, and you have your whole life ahead of you. With no education or career, $9/hr or less with or without a child will put you in poverty. I’ve noticed men categorize, or are judgmental on women having children 🤔 but why aren’t we on them? A man’s accountability will tell you all you need to know about his integrity. Thank you for this video ❤️.

You need to treat them as though they came from you and not hold them not being biological over their heads. My sister always had it made clear that to her (by him) after they got married that she isn't my father's child. It has lead to devastating abuse and tension between us from my birth (she was 8) to about 3 years ago. So if you're not ready to love those children as your own, LEAVE THAT FAMILY ALONE! no it's not that it's that when you grow up, and stop seeing their parents as parents and more as people that made choices; you see why your life turned out the way it did because of them. kids inherit the choices and the outcomes of those choices the parents made. Kids of wealthy parents will most likely be wealthy and kids of poor shitty people will likely inherit nothing and live harder lives. That's just how life works. It's sad and people with kids (Shumake included) don't like to hear that because it's some raw shit but it's also real and the truth. The choices he made fucking around with a woman he wanted nothing to do with and ended up making a kid with her will affect that kid for the rest of her life. And he knows this, he just doesn't like saying it because again, it's a sour pill to take. I hate to say it but it's the truth, and he knows this; which makes it annoying that he slides off it like it's nothing when it pretty much defines the person people turn out to be later in life. How you raise your kids matters, and life isn't a joke or a game. but people sadly treat it that way and later are upset when the bad choices they made in their early 20s come back to bite them in their ass in their 30s and 40s. Sorry but the past DOES define you, just like it defined people who did shit the right way and went to school and worked hard; they got the good outcomes from things in their past, because their past is filled with good choices, people who made bad choices got bad outcomes and now they mad on a youtube comment section. smh.

I definitely think the whole stigma attached to single parenthood is a bit ridiculous. As a single mom, I explain to whoever I date that I’m divorced, my ex husband and I have a great relationship and we coparent the best we can. I explain that to be with me you have to be really mature and secure within yourself as you are walking into all of our lives. I let them know that instead of seeing it as something to fear at least you know what kind of parent I am because my son is well mannered, well rounded, hilarious and super smart as he has skipped a grade and is still in advanced classes. I tell him you can also see how I coparent as I am very reasonable and amicable we don’t fight, speak very highly of each other to everyone and we don’t allow anyone to attack the other. As a result our son is well integrated into both of our families. Travels the world and is trilingual at 12 years old. Single parenthood is provides major insight into who someone is, it’s not something to constantly condemn as life happens. It’s better to be mature enough to end it and be amicable than to normalize discomfort and turbulent love relationships to a child.

I am a single mother of 1. The thing that bothers me the most about this discussion, men saying that they not dealing w single mothers, men saying that they not raising no one elses kid... Let me say this... if the stats are that 70% of children are born to single mothers, there is a HIGH probability that most men will end up dating and/or marrying a woman with a child that is not his.
Shumake, why aren't men talking to eachother more about safeguarding their semen? Why aren't men taking a more responsible approach to the issue? The woman does not become pregnant unless the man ejaculates. Its his ejaculation that causes pregnancy. This discussion needs to shift to men learning to VALUE their semen as the seed of life, and stop seflishly having raw sex for the feel. If men would learn to value their reproductive power, and safeguard their semen there would be LESS single mothers and less unwanted children. I think this discussion is highly UNBALANCED and puts the woman down. When you see a single mother, understand that there is a MAN who abandoned his responsiblity. There was a man who impregnated her who did not marry her, and did not stick to his duty. (this is not directed towards you shumake, just giving my thoughts) I feel that men need to really stop shrinking and place the true blame where it belongs. MEN. Talk to eachother about WHY you are willy nilly ejaculating in women you have no intention of being with. STOP PLACING THE FULL BRUNT OF RESPONSIBLITY ON WOMEN. Because at the end of the day, it is the woman left holding the bag!!!!!!!!!!

Queen of Hearts, that is the reason Black women must protect themselves as we are left holding the baby. We must practice abstinence or BC which a lot of mothers do not teach their daughters. The Black community is allergic to BC and we witness it in the stats. Since Black men go to prison at a high rate, women should never have unprotected sex with a man. I just don't get it but I'm an RN and I can talk on any health issue.

The men who are currently giving serious thought to these issues, (as opposed to embittered low-lifes who are just "hatin" on women....) have concluded that women are the gatekeepers of sex, whilst men are the gatekeepers of marriage. They believe that women who "put out" prior to marriage are marking themselves as easy targets for all of the wrong types of men. This whole "try before you buy" culture does absolutely no favors for women whatsoever, even if they feel they are in the most fantastic relationship. Without marriage, guys have got an easy "out" from a relationship, and can very easily back-pedal....even if they have sired a child.
Don't make a baby where no "serious" commitment has been expressed or exemplified first. Yes, there are men who'll happily prey upon women who have no marriage caveat attached to allowing intimacies to occur.... but it's because some women opt for this, or sanction it, that "the gates are opened" to these types of men. When "Mr right" comes along, a woman whose already had a child or two with "Mr wrong" isn't really an attractive option anymore for a whole host of reasons. When women have children with Mr wrong, they automatically make themselves a Mrs wrong in the eyes the MANY (childless) Mr rights who are looking to wife up. That's a LOT of potentially positive relationship candidates who have been lost or driven away by a woman's single parent status.
These men who won't take on single mothers aren't ALL assholes. Many of them are deadly serious about women and relationships, have a tremendous amount to offer the "right" woman, and had they met certain single mothers prior to their dalliances with Mr wrong....would be targeting them as highly desirable wife material. That's why it's such a crying shame that some women deal themselves out of that male catchment sooo early in their lives by having children with losers or deadbeats whilst they're still in their physical prime. Good men want exclusivity with a woman in her prime (child-bearing) years. Somebody he can go the distance with. There's nothing wrong with ANY woman demanding some real commitment in return for that deal, and a good man will expect her to demand commitment, because he knows what he'll be getting in return. A woman has ONE chance to properly pair-bond with one good man. To select a husband (and father) to make life's journey with.
There is absolutely nothing wrong or lacking in the many (childless) men out there who refuse to take on single mothers. Just like women, they have instinctual feelings about precisely whom they believe to be desirable partner material, and who is not. It's the exact same right of appraisal that women have.....in deciding who to sleep with and when. Women get to choose which "sperms" appear to be worth their while....but men get to choose which "women" will be worth their while.
If women leap in first with their choices, and decide to bear children for worthless or unsuitable men, then ok....that's fine. They've made their "womanly" choice. But (childless) men still get to make THEIR choices too. So...some women have already committed their bodies to childbirth?
That's not for any man to judge....other than to say: "Fine, I'll place MY serious focus on the ones who haven't..."
Just because men are now coming together (in social media) and warning eachother off single mothers and swapping their stories about them, it doesn't mean that they're all assholes or embittered failures. It just means they want happiness and success for themselves, and are prepared to hear council and experience from other men when it comes to appraising potential life-partners.

My son has always been a little dope and nerdy old man child(lol) who's very independent. I've dated while being a single mother and have been VERY particular about who I brought around my young son(he's 11 now) because of what I went through with my mother and who she brought around me as a tiny little girl. I never wanted him to deal with some dude who thought he could put his hands on my child, or who can boss him around with the intent of making him feel inferior. I also never wished for anyone to assume I want someone to parent my son. I've taken care of my son alone from day one without anyone babysitting and even had to pull him out of school far before the pandemic to homeschool him because of how he was being mistreated, going through things I myself was in school with these "teachers". All I wished and wish for is for someone I actually like that far that I completely click with(whenever that day comes) is to treat my son like the little person he is. That's it.Kids are not stupid. I know I wasn't. All I ever wanted as a child was someone to be open with and talk to, someone to look up to, learn from. My son is the same I've come to notice. He loves to talk. Very articulate. He is unbothered about the few I've dated over the years because he understands that people come and go as with friends, love interests, unfortunately sometimes even family. We just want to have fun and laugh, chill, converate and enjoy life. To share that with someone on the same wavelength would always be a blessing. If I can't find that then so be it. I'll always hold my son down to the best of my ability regardless if I have to do that alone. I love my son greatly. He keeps me going through all the negative mess going on in this world and I wish to keep returning the sentiment for him. I will always protect him from any harm.

I'm a newly single mom (divorced in November) and I think your point about desperation is key. If/When I'm ready to start dating again, it will never be because my children need a father figure. They have a father. I would really just like a little something for me. Ideally a future boo wouldn't even meet my kids unless the relationship got serious. Maybe that's easier said than done but at least with that mindset women are less vulnerable to having their own kids used as a manipulation tactic. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Many women have abortions but their poor choices dont stick with them like single moms and their baby daddies and kids another man have to accept. This advice can also be applied to childless women who are single in their late 20s who want a serious relationship/marriage. Some men can prey on you because of your age and desire to settle down and can waste your valuable time and even give you a baby without ever marrying you, making you a single mother and permanently lowering your desirability in the dating pool. It’s important to vet men very well and not give him your womb if you’re not married..not saying that marriage will stop you from divorce or being a single mother but it will bring more stability in the children’s lives. Also, not having a child out of wedlock will help you to be able to accomplish career, world travel, and educational goals you have for yourself before you settle down. Hands down life is just so free and fun not having a unplanned pregnancy with a guy who is not right for you. Stay blessed everyone ❤️‼️

1.I do not allow men in my home while dating, or even knowing where I live. You have to be my boyfriend. ( for the safety of me and my children)
    2. You have to meet my family ( or very close friends if you don’t have family) before you meet my children.

I used to be ashamed to be a single mother at 21. All my friends were going the traditional route getting married. I was the only one with a kid in my group. I remember lowering my standards hoping to find a man to marry and be a step dad to my kid. It was a whole mess. I experienced so much unnecessary trauma in my 20s.
By the time I reached 30s, I accepted that I would raise my son fully alone. I stopped prioritizing dating, and redirected that energy into my career. Tripled my salary, moved abroad, my son graduated high school. I'm enjoying my life just turned 40.
It's nice to have more dating options and no pressure to be married. I feel having a kid early was a blessing. I know many friends who are settling in their late 30s, trying to find a partner so they can start having kids. I love that my son is entering into adulthood. I live so free and peaceful knowing I can date when I feel like it. I appreciate your insight on this topic, and I'm glad you shared from personal experiences that it's hard being a single parent. The younger generation who don't have children need to understand that single parenthood should never be the first option as the black community has gotten way to comfortable with having children out of wedlock and using abortion as a means of birth-control. This may be 'ol school, but 'ol school works better for a reason...to the younger generation, let an honorable man bestow the honorable title of "wife" to an honorable woman before having children. Anyone can bounce back from mistakes as God's grace is sufficient, but remember that His way versus your way is always the best option.

My best friend married a single mother. He was shot and killed by his wife's baby daddy(over putting him on child support). If a man wants to date or marry a single mom he has to realize that the childs father will always be in the picture.
I look at Russell Wilson and Ciara and Future. No matter how much money you have the childs biological father will always be in the picture. I'm not knocking not to date a single mom but men have to see what he may be getting himself involved with and examine all possible angles when dating a single mom.

As an RN I do not understand our community's resistance to birth control . It would eliminate STDs, unwanted pregnancy for the most part and sex with men on the DL. The only single mothers would be divorced mothers and the BS with I can have a baby with you and get on the struggle train which men and women do would cease. This high value mess is just that. Most Black men are not high value because of their incomes. The thing I think about is most important is does a man have value? Is he intelligent, have character and integrity, hardworking, empathy, sense of humor, compassion for others, keeps his word, and is responsible. Those things make a man valuable. Most Black men don't make over 50000 dollars a year. Unless we marry and build together to leave something for our children, we will continue to struggle alone. You all do the math. Two people earning 50000 together do much better than one single man or single mother apart. But what do I know my parents sent us all to college and we married and work with our spouses to create something for our children and they will do better than we have done. And 25,% of males end up in the system so they avoid single mothers too? With a record some of them can't take care of themselves. We need to cut the BS and get back to taking care of our families. I still believe women and men should use BC until they are ready to get married and have children because single mothers are stigmatized especially women who have never married. That is just the way it is.

I've had one single father propose marriage, and the other talked of marriage. Ladies if you're a single mother, then your best bet is a single father. Yes there's pros and cons, but you both are taking a risk dating each other. The commonality will increase the likelihood of a relationship or marriage if that's what you choose.

I think we have to stop succumbing to the misconception of "high value men", especially the world's definition of a "high value man" versus the Most High Creator's definition of a truly high value man (which has nothing to do with money, but all to do with morals and his heart). Once we start applying the Creator's definition of a high value man to the situation, we'll start to see that a lot of these men who call themselves "high value" are the LOWEST in the eyes of the Most High. And the seeds the world has been implanting into men and women all of these millennia that define "manhood", "womanhood", and "value" are truly bad, wicked seeds that have been bearing wicked fruit for a long time.

I was raised by a single mother (im an only child) and I saw my mother work hard and handle her business first! My mother didn’t bring many men around me growing up and as a grown woman I truly appreciate that. I chose to further my career and accomplish a few things before children, before I knew it I look up and 20 yrs have passed lol. I’ll be 49 yrs old this year and children are not in my plans now 🤷🏽‍♀️ but I help my family raise my little cousins.
I have often watched women in my family as well as good girlfriends be desperate and overlook multiple red flags. So many times women are worried about what society will say because they are a single women with children. Nowadays men have multiple children and women have turned the tables and are cautious against men with multiple “baby mammas” and more on the way!
Keep up the great work your videos are definitely reaching people and encouraging people as well. 🤜🏽🤛🏽

The reason men dont agree with being a stepdad is because most have abandoned their own child. The reason why some men say dont date si gle mother is because they dont want anyone dating the mothers of their children. Abandonment of father responsibilities to the child and mother of the child is classes as domestic violence and emotional abuse. Maybe she doesn't want to be with him, he was violent, mentally abusive, a cheat, lier. What ever the reason, abandonment of father responsibility is punishment for leaving and designed to hinder you future progress.

I left first childs father when I found out because I was not trying to be with anyone and he was not mentally in the right place to be a father so I left. I was really in a hard place and made a bad decision. I met someone that i fell in love with when my babygirl was 7months old. He never did all that fake stuff where he was trying to play daddy not at first. I would've seen through that and ran for the hills. He stayed away from my baby for the first 6months and took time to know her and me. We really got close when covid hit. That probably was what it was. I was a first time new mommy and he was the first man that I met after not being with anyone since my pregnancy and until she was 7 months old I would've kept waiting to. He just did something to me. Also, we can’t just overlook the dark side of men dating single mothers in certain cases. There’ve been situations were a man adopts the child of a single mother, and they eventually divorce, and she puts him on child support for a child that isn’t his. In any case, the main issue is to tackle the rising number of single mothers and fathers of course, and not encourage single parenthood.
