Its me when i was 16 years old and J admiring Lindas body i was like "WTF shes old". Now when im 28 i can say that she was really fine babe with nice body 😂
To think that there's two timelines that followed from this final moment. One where Jay goes through with erasing Kay's memories, leading to Men in Black 2 and 3. And another where he doesn't go through with it, leading to Men in Black: The Animated Series.
The most unrealistic part of this whole scene is K talking about looking at the stars in the middle of New York city. With all that light pollution? I think not, sir.
That moment when you realize Kay is talking about how beautiful the stars are As he looks up At the completely light-polluted sky of New York City Unable to see a *single fucking star*
That would make sense. Especially since Dee and Kay both said word for word "I never just look anymore." As if they want to go back to just seeing the stars without having to wonder what doomsday is coming down next.
You could tell Jay didn't want to do it, it was paining him to have to erase Kay's memory. But in the end he knew it was the right thing to do and what Kay wanted.
I was a kid when this movie came out and I remember watching it thinking why would anyone want to forget everything and as a 30 year old adult now I completely understand. Life is one hell of a ride.
Wow haha I'm 28 and I just had that exact same thought watching this scene. I wouldn't want to forget, but at like 50 60 years old yeah it might be nice to just call and relax after a great life of adventure lived!
Personally this is still my favorite ending in the series. Really gives closure to K's story and makes J the face of MIB for good. The decision to essentially retcon this ending in MIB2 wasn't handled as well as it could have been. And the twist in MIB3 isn't enough to make up for the very little screentime Will and Tommy Lee have together.
It's hard because they wrote such a great story for J and K in MIB 3. I love them both. I just consider them different universes, different possible endings.
Tbh this is a good ending, but I think they should have been more wary of potential followups because it made MIB2's job way too hard, there's not much leading up to this scene with only D at the beginning, and the scene with K looking up his former fiancee, but there's less to do with much of the actual plot at hand Also honestly.. Jay was talented af but a measly two days of training wasn't enough to have him as a proper replacement for the experienced K. It's a very heartfelt moment but imo not the most logical one Appreciate that you worded MIB2 like that btw, I think the stuff with K getting his memory wasn't handled as well either, but it still makes for the most enjoyable chunk of the movie for me (to me where it falls off is the climax)
Dennis Rodman being an alien in the MIB universe is awesome be ause they guy really is built different. He does have a striking appearance but he also was just a beast of an athlete. He would play a full game, catching most of the rebounds, then immediately go in the gym and workout for another hour and THEN go out partying all night
I forgot who Rodman was for a second and after looking it up I was like, “Oh yeah, Kim Jong-un’s buddy pal” Forget aliens. Reality is stranger than fiction
So many movies rise and fall on the strength of the chemistry between the leads. In MIB, it was a home run. Even in the lesser sequels, the easy going rapport between Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith is what audiences came back for.
Man, the 90s had so many great and original movies. It was the end of an era for Hollywood, a last hurrah after decades of quality filmmaking before the film industry devolved into what it is today.
You would think that MIB would have more people like the city coroners on their payroll so that they wouldn’t have to neuralize them in the event they have valuable information, what’s more is that they could contact HQ to make sure that they have a heads up on the dead bodies that are clearly extraterrestrial. Remember, L didn’t have much of a social life and even states that she hates the living. I’m not saying that they need to spread the net too wide, but keeping the right people in the know would certainly help with preventing needless memory wiping to the point where it ruins lives.
Whose to say that they don't the organization is huge and they probably have agents in certain fields to flag if they see anything extraterrestrial and help them cover it up
Not needed. As soon as a coroner has to autopsy an alien they'd go crazy on the phones, try to get to the news or whatever. I'm sure MiB is big enough to have wires on phones and the mass media. Then it's just a matter of showing up, neuralyzing as many people as needed and leave. They don't need a heads-up from coroners because anyone who finds an alien will cause an uproar about it big enough for MiB to realize, and they don't need to buy anyone's silence because that's what neuralyzing is for. On the other hand, having "civilians" be aware of MiB's activities could lead to some information leaks and security breaches if any of those civilians open their mouths to the wrong being or straight up get captured and made talk.
Honestly, I _hate hate hate_ that they set up the perfect sequel, a buddy-cop adventure with J and Laurel as partners... *...AND THEN WE DIDN'T GET TO SEE THAT*
In Japan, he is very popular because he is known as an alien in a famous commercial. And when I watched this movie after I studied abroad, I was surprised he was an actor
The 2nd was a bit of a let down , but the 3rd really wrapped up things nicely I thought, ending with J finding out just how much he meant to K, looking out for him after his dad died 🥰😇
I honestly didn't see the K retiring angle coming. Bet it was intentional but seeing B (or D forget which) get wiped due to being too old to keep going made me think this was a lifetime gig until you literally couldn't do it anymore.
Can we just neuralize the sequels from our brains for a sec and appreciate what a beautiful piece of cinema this ending is? Kay impressed upon Jay the importance of keeping the general populace in the dark about the MIB's work. And after all he'd seen in his years with the organization, he was tired and just wanted to be a part of that happily oblivious populace once more. Meanwhile Jay had in fact "grown up" enough to be entrusted with the responsibility of the neuralizer. And although he'd miss his mentor, he had such a moment of maturity when he said "No, you won't [see me again]" and let Kay forget.
As iconic as this scene is, I always find it hilarious that THIS is the point at which K determines J to be "fully trained". He's been on the job for a few days max at this point, barely knows what he's doing, doesn't know how to handle most weapons, and literally has not been shown how to use one of the agencies most common and important tools, The Neuralyzer. This is an Interstellar Secret Police Agency with a training time shorter and less involved than your average cashier position at Walmart LMAO.
This reminds me of my eye doctor, Dr. Ceran! He is like Jay in the movie. I am like Kay. I went to Dr. Ceran for an eye exam in about 2012. He could detect my visual memory at work while I was taking medication that caused memory loss. Dr. Ceran proclaimed it’s the common era. He closed up shop and ran. Nowadays, I am no saint. I have such vivid memories that return so abruptly and starkly that I can’t keep up with this. I can’t help being aggravated.
I always wonder why Laurel and Will weren't a thing in MIB 2, you don't even hear of her in the 2nd film. I thought for sure they would have been a couple especially after Will recruits her in

What is he like, 70? 20 years later im now 27 and tommy lee jones is both still alive and still in movies, and i just saw a recent thing with him in it, and i thought "wow he looks so young in this" holy shit bro...
The idea of the MIB uniform is that they're not supposed to stand out. They are to have no distinguishing features. Who else thinks it was stupid as hell for J to get a different suit and glasses for that final shot?
it looks dumb and breaks the whole men in black mythos, because they are all supposed to be uniform looking to reinforce, it was all in your head feeling.
They reference what happens to Agent L early in the second movie (in reality, it was probably creative choices plus actor conflicts per reports). But yeah, that outfit just disappears without explanation.
I'm kind of mixed on the ending on the one hand I would have preferred this being the end of k's story because the way it was set up it was a perfect like passing the torch on to the next agent but I also like k and J's relationship so that's why I mean why I say I'm mixed
