I loved how everyone in the crowd reacted when they realized what was gonna happen in the Mitchell fight.
Who else noticed that the only two "Twisters" in UFC history were done with the same referee in the octagon. Dan Miragliotta. Imagine the chances... what a coincidence.

This is such a beautiful submission. Nobody gets even close to being injured by it, just shear pain and "fear" of having your neck snapped.

If you’ve never been in a twister you will never know how intense the pain is. It feels as if your spine is going to snap and youve no control over it. In one of my gyms we wasn’t aloud to do them along with a few other subs

It's a neck crank from a position called the stockade. It's a rare but really cool and easy place to get to from side control, and can set up a tonne of other submissions like the darce.

Bryce Mitchell just because my favorite fighter over the weekend. How could you not love his heart and spirit! God gave you a gift son and I can’t wait to see how far he’s gonna take you!!! Arkansas K-5 baby!!!!! I was a in awe during the match like “ok, this guy is standing toe for toe with one of the legends”, Then you say Edson down, that’s when I became a fan. After the match you prayed with Edson at then end of the match, I became an even bigger fan, then you donated 45k out of 90k to help needed children in your state. That’s why I became a FAN of your FOR LIFE brother! Thank you for showing us what a true fighter with an actual heart is supposed to do. Man what an amazing fight.

Mitchell is one of my favorite fighters to watch.
My old man taught me this move for wrestling when I was 7 or 8. Made so many kids cry that year the wrestling league the next season banned me from using it. So he taught me the spread eagle and the gut wrench that year and ha the same results lmao. Twister/geotine definitely a great move if the opportunity presents itself. Almost impossible to counter once you get the leg and the arm in your hands

That why you tap. If you don't it can inflict serious damage to your cervical spine. :)
It’s much more likely to blow a disc or tear a ligament. Luckily fighters necks are usually pretty resilient, so hopefully most of these guys were ok

Have you been put in a twister and put other people in a twister?
There is no doubt it can injury your cervical spine.
And a s a physiotherapist I can assure you your neck doesn't like to be rotated past its range of motion. Serious chance for disc injuries and facet joints. And if your rough enough who knows what else will give.
I'm sure there are many other possible injuries with a twister. But neck injuries are the scary one. And the reason why most people are fast to tap once they find themselves in a twister.
I'm not looking for rib injuries, but I can deal with them if I happen to make a mistake and tap to late. I'm not taking any chances with neck injuries when they are avoidable.
At 0:20 you can hear presumably Bryces cornerman losing his mind making rooster sounds when he realizes he has the twister secured

@@Vitoloko210 bruce lee was a capable fighter and martial artist and was one of the pioneers of modern mma philosophy. HOWEVER he has very little evidence of his actual fighting abilities and compared to pro fighters, his skill was not that special. Compared to modern pro mma fighters, bruce lee’s physical capabilities are mediocre at best but people still give him credit for his philosophy of adopt what works and lose what doesn’t, which is the foundation of modern mma.
He was just a pioneer in mixing previoulsly known and unknown martial arts doesnt mean put against a modern UFC fighter he wouldnt get destroyed of course he would

me and my friend at the jiu jitsu gym we used to play a game which we would choose one submission for the roll, guillotine, armbar etc
once we played for the twister and it was one of the most painful submissions i ever had, felt like my spine is gonna snap.
tip from an experience, dont ever try to shoot your leg so you can go to the other side, it's gonna make the spine pain 100X worse.

Every time the twister came around that move was number 1 come Monday at all the clubs
I pulled this off once in a jiu jitsu class, I couldn't imagine trying it in a fight
