Last 85 Saleen Delivered - FIELD RESCUE!

- I was invited down to document the rescue of this 1985 Saleen Mustang. The owner had recently passed away and the family was selling it on behald of their beloved Dad "Al". Al bought this Saleen brand new in 1985 and kept it all those years. Albeit being sitting outside the car is in really good shape for not being driven in almost ten years. The owner held onto it as it was his cherished vehcile. Even after health problems prohibited him from driving it.
Thanks to Stu at the Saleen Ranch and Marc Allen of Allen Brothers Hot Rods & Restorations for allowing me to come along for the wild ride of bad Dad jokes and good times rescuing this car.

Very cool watch! Thanks for another great job Bob! I remember the night this one popped up for sale!
I'll never understand the reasoning of letting a car like this sit out and rot.
It’s tough to understand sometimes. But knowing what little I know about the owners health situation it kinda makes sense to me. If a car like this was the one thing that made me happy inside when I looked at it, it’s worth keeping if my health wasn’t that great. Even if it had to sit outside. It’s all about perspective.
Cars go by the wayside usually not by choice. It starts as 1 week then turns into a month then a year. Before u know your here
They love them to death.....
I wanted to repair the quarter panel on my 1960 Falcon ranchero my gandpa gave me for a graduation present. Then I had to find a 60 ranchero quarter panel, they are exclusive to that year and model. Good part was grandpa swapped the drive train from a 66' mustang so it has a 289 auto in it. It's been in the garage since 2005 untouched. Life sometimes get in the way.
Usually it's because the owner genuinely wants to preserve it and make it whole again but just aren't able or in a position to do so.
I have proof, I met this car and the owner, at a gas station in Georgia.
He got pissed when I asked to photo the car. This was 15 years ago.
It was just as filthy!!!!!!!!
I’ve been searching for this car.
I got a photo of it, it’s somewhere.
Rowdy motor in it and keep the exterior as is. Love it.
Such a great car, get it back to its glory day!
I can understand the attachment to a car, and the inability to let it go for many unused years....but I am glad to see this one get saved. An amazing find!
Stu is definitely a wealth of knowledge and a passionate enthusiast. He’s a 1 of 1 himself.
Me- Who would let a car like that rot outside
Also me- Sadly stares at my '89 sitting outside because the garage is full.
Great video Bob, as always. Glad you were there to document this for everyone to see. In one week Stu totally transformed this car from yard art to a cleaned up drivable car.
Thanks Lewie. I was honored he asked me to come video it. It was a great day.
Thanks, Bob!
Thank you for saving this car guys!! These are indeed special.
I guess it’s just hard for some people to let their cars go. They look at it and remember what amazing times they had in them and just want to hold on. Unfortunately they don’t see or just can’t accept that the car is slowly rusting away. Luckily it doesn’t seem like there was too must rust on this particular unit. Thankfully. God bless the previous owners for finally letting it go to a person that will restore it.
So cool!!! Thanks for sharing, Bob.
Amazing find! Saving history for certain.
Great video! Good to see guys who really appreciate these cars
Wow! What a great find! 👍
Great video! Love seeing cars rescued especially one as cool as this one.
Wow that’s amazing! Nice find
what a cool car! I love the older four eyed foxbodies! Saleen is a dream car for me
So glad you posted the startup. Sounds very healthy. Amazing ride.
Such a legend car happy you guys are saving it
It still looks amazing even with the patina !!
This is awesome you guys, what a great find.
love it what a find she is beautiful and sounds awesome
Heck of a find!
Looking forward to see videos of this cars restoration.
Great save!
Nice rescue!
Nice save. I always loved the way the doors sounded on these when opened and closed.
Same. For whatever reason these cars and the air cooled Porsches too.
Beautiful!
Man I had to subscribe, I’m not really a die hard ford guy but I do like some ford models and 4 eyed fox bodies are cool also all the way up to 93 love them years of mustangs. It’s an awesome sight and feeling that y’all are saving these ol fox bodies keep it going guys!!!
Much love brother!! Thank you. 🙌
Dude im not even a mustang fan really but i love saleen mustang and shelby and any for mustang pre 2000
Love the Mustang!!!
Great video!!!
I saw this car posted on FB months ago. I, along with a number of others were interested in buying it and restoring it. Still interested!
This would be great to leave the patina and restore everything else. This is my favorite color combo on a fox Saleen.
Boggles my mind to see unicorns sit outside. If its going to sit outside you could park the car on top of some sheets of plywood and get a roof over it. Thank you for saving this beauty.
I had 85-57 I bought it from a lady in Maryland for next to nothing would have been in early 90s those center caps are very hard to find for those hiashe wheels I believe the car was in Alaska last time I heard
I know exactly where at in Schley Co this thing was sitting. A lot of cool old cars and trucks in that area.
And pecan trees…
I'd forget about this basket case !!
Ok we need to get the word out to everyone. People who do and don't watch you tube. People likely to have this same situation are ones who don't even understand the internet. Don't let this happen special cars need to go to people who will love them. We are out there.
I offered to buy this car 2 years ago. Guy wouldn't sell it.
Sitting here watching a random video and said well I’ll be damned, there’s Mark Allen😄
Im not a Ford fan but I wouldn’t mind seeing this running around town
I live in Newport News, Va. and had a friend in high school (late 80s) that had one of these and it’s just a few miles from Hampton, Va. I have to wonder if it was his car.
He was the talk of the school with his Saleen Mustang.
Cool find, if it was his, I’ve been in that passenger seat in its “hey day”!!
But, what are the odds.
I don’t believe the owner was in high school. He was a Vietnam vet. And from what I understand, he rode a bus up to the dealer and drove it home.
@@PuristMotorsports I apologize, somehow I missed the the one owner part.
After high school, as usual, people go their own ways. I never saw him or the car again. I graduated in 87 and he, 85 or 86 but being a car guy myself, I always wondered where the car ended up.
Great video and save..
@TheGraytOutdoors no worries! Thanks for watching and conversing. I’d hope the car you’re talking about is still out there somewhere. Saleen built just over 2700 fox mustangs from 84-93. Not many of them made so to have memories in one is special. At least to me it is.
I had #20 85 Saleen ! I wonder what happened to it!
Oak leaf is a good wine. Could be worth more than the car 😂
Cool car quite sad it was put to pasture
Really cool story Bob. I thought the Chevy wheels with Ford caps on the trailer was funny too. All things considered, it sounded pretty good.
If thats what you really think then please explain how you'd take a ford center cap 4.5 bolt pattern & put it on a chevrolet 4.75 wheel,go ahead i'll wait
While you’re waiting Cole, take a closer look at the vid/wheel/cap.
@@michaelyount3176 chevy never had a 4.5 inch wheel nor did ford have a 4.75 wheel. That like trying to put a square peg in a round hole
Once last chance before I give up on you Cole - take a closer look at the vid/wheel/cap. And remember, sometimes folks modify things to make them work....freeze the screen and zoom in at 8:46. @@coletrickle113
Hey Sir. I have one question. Will you keep the car or will you sell it? If it were me I would keep it. Nice video I really did enjoy it. I like the story of the car the most.
I would like to progress videos on this car.😎👍
I made the same color Saleen sticker pack on the new Forza motorsport I shared it if you want to make the 93 cobra a Saleen.
Test drove one in Orlando Florida back in the late 80's ... should have purchased that bad boy smh 😒
All that a bottle of vinegar to boot --- in the boot! That Mustang's bridle is in the rear floorboard!
Is that DAM SAVER winch attachment for sale somewhere or is that a custom piece made by the buyer
It was a custom piece made by the buyer.
Last year of the Mustang with a carburetor.
I would be willing to bet that Jay Leno would have purchased that mustang long before it got in its sad shape . And probably paid good money for it as well . This is a tragedy . Now it will take a huge invenstment to restore this vehicle to its former glorious state .
So how much did u buy this $ 1500 car for
And the worker who put the x slit for the alarm wire was only permitted to wear Ford blue underwear on Mondays.
its alive
I sincerely apologize to you two men.. yall had this Thing Running before the Video was Over.. Sounded Good..😩
Dear lord! 😩
How rare are them headlight covers? What are those worth on that car now?
Somewhat rare. The earlier versions that used Velcro are rare-er.
I have 3 sets if 85 recoro seat...
Are yall gonna restore and sell or sell like is or keeping it
It’s not ours. Stu in the video bought it. The car is now presentable and running and driving. No plans to restore that I know of at this time.
Its MerLOT Bob....MerLOT ;-)
🤣🤪
you can get a MINT LX-5.0 for less money !!
To many people say "im gonna fix it up one day" and as it sits abd rots they brag about what they have..
Jack, spare, and mouse house
Wine cellar too… 😆
I will never understand how someone can park a special car like that outside for years and just let it rot. Idiots.
How much u pay for it
???
I don’t know what was paid. That was between the owner and buyer. I was just there to video it all.
🐎🚗👊💪🇺🇸🦊
Why just why…….this poor special car sits out in the weather when I’ve seen 4 cylinder hatches sit in a garage🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
13:17 there were 2 last? There can only be 1 last & this one ain’t it brah 🤨
Sad that car was just parked outside to rot .
Where can someone get a damn "dam saver" ?
That’s a good question. The one in this video is a prototype.
Definitely, need the Dam saver
I know this house. Guy wouldn't sell it 2 years ago.
It's always a matter of timing when it comes to this time of thing.
Jerry’s right. It was about the timing. The owner had passed away and the family was handling the assets and selling off of some things.
Thats a shame these cars bringing big money now
Restore this car. Dont modify it
That’s 100% the plan that the new owner has. Preservation not modification.
If you know so much about that car then why did you let it go to shit.
doesnt look like a real saleen, the little decals i saw and other stuff, people were on into putting these same decals on normal cars and calling them saleens, wheres the real proof
Looks correct. You can always verify the VIN with Saleen to be sure, they keep records.
Id love to have that
