I enjoyed this trip report very much. It is very obvious however, that Etihad is in full cost-cutting mode. I've never known of a full service Middle Eastern carrier to offer a buy on board service before. They've taken away cheese and crackers and the salad for the main meal. The full sized meal tray is gone. There are also no longer any amenities in the restrooms. I also thought that they used to offer a more substantial second meal, but perhaps that has been taken away as well. As I said, I enjoyed your honest review of Etihad, but I'm not sure I would want to fly them anymore. I am happy however, to see that their crews are still professional and kind. Thank you for this report.
Thank you very much for watching. Yes, the concept of buy-on-board really echoes of a low-cost airline model, if observed literally. However, just to highlight, from a different perspective, Etihad has carefully branded as offering personalised ancillary add-ons on top of the complimentary meals versus taking away the full-service concept to facilitate the low-cost model. Also, just to consider the following: - cheese and crackers and salad are traded for a larger-portioned main course dish (similar to Qantas) - buy-on-board menu is additional on top of the regular complimentary meal service, with very affordable options for peckish passengers - yes, amenities in restrooms are removed on my flights :( - the second meal is actually on par with Emirates' offering for Dubai-Singapore - similar biscuits or "a sweet treat" - I don't believe it is a "downgrade" I do appreciate very much your observation and comments, and wonder what you think of their intended branding for this new Economy Class service concept - is it mere putting lipstick on a pig (pardon my words, I don't mean to be offensive to anyone), or providing new-age travellers - who would appreciate the option of personalised services, even when flying Economy.

I suppose I am just a bit disappointed that Etihad has gone down that road. I always thought of them as in the same league as their counterparts, namely Emirates and Qatar, but the buy on board concept from Etihad really surprises me. That seems more appropo for Ryanair in Europe, or Spirit, or Frontier in the US. I know that this is a necessary action for Etihad if they want to be a viable carrier in the future. They've branded their Economy class in a very savvy fashion, and on the surface it looks like an upgrade, but this new "enhancement" just isn't for me. Thanks again for your report!
It’s been a few years since I last used Etihad for any of my long haul flights . On this showing I doubt whether they will feature in any of my future plans . The meal service is a definite downgrade on what was previously a genuine full service offering . Etihad must be congratulated however in marketing this inferior service as an enhancement , how does that work ? . I’m not taken in by their false claims . Thank you for posting this video , you have done me a personal favour in confirming that I’ll steer clear of Etihad in the future .
Wanted to get your opinion on something - Etihad's competition are other carriers in the Middle East - Emirates, Qatar, and Turkish. How do you think their service compares to the other three - both in Economy and Business? I have taken all 4 of the carriers and in my opinion Etihad ranks at the bottom of the list - for various reasons. Also, Abu Dhabi Airport does not have a lot of amenities for travellers, especially if you are there for a while (free and fast wifi though). And T1 at AUH is especially bad. Interested in hearing your thoughts/opinions

It really shows how much you love aviation and traveling on how much effort and passion you put on making these videos and that´s something i´d like to show you my gratitude for. I´m sure all this work takes much of your spare time. Back to Etihad service , it is maybe not as bad as i previously thought, the cabin crew seemed to be great and that really makes the diference between a bad or good flight. As for the meals i still think they look a bit scarce but maybe it is just my perception. The moodlighting was just awesome. Flying with Etihad since 2008, five star service on the first few years then started to decline in 2017. On my last flight with them in May, you can obviously say that they are trying to reduce their expenses with no more vanity kit, three course meal is no longer serve and snacks for sale, baggage allowance from per piece of 23kg x 2 to per weight max of 30kg.

FYI, Etihad is not the only ME carrier cutting back on services - EK has also been cutting or adding fees to some of the previously complimentary services - including introducing "light" Economy fare option. Etihad has really downgraded their meal catering service since I flew on Etihad Airways back in January 2019. I've heard rumors that Etihad have been cost cutting especially buy snacks, drinks and no more inflight entertainment monitor screen from Abu Dhabi to Pakistan and India.
I left travelling with Etihad due to their new inflight dining service, the meals served are just a joke, Ey accepts or not they are losing a number of passengers on every flight, frequent flyers are no more taking any chance with EY. Emirates is the best choice to travel anywhere in the world.
Hi there! Good question. I thought EK did provide a slightly better product in terms of entertainment, lavatory amenities, transit experience at DXB Airport versus AUH Airport. EY does provide 3 options of main course though, in a different concept (with a larger main course, but skipping the appetiser) versus EK's 2 meal options in a standard airline tray with appetiser and dessert.
Hi Flighttravels, Nice video, really enjoyed it! :) The service looks pretty nice on this flight, getting such a warm welcome when stepping on board really sets the tone :) The food presentation looks pretty interesting.. really wonder how many people buy something extra from their menu. IMHO, such a classy airline shouldn’t have a BOB menu. The snack before landing is very poor TBH, why can’t you get a little breakfast or something like that? Regards, Brendan
Heys thanks for commenting. I think Etihad left a great impression at boarding and disembarking, which is nice. The menu was quite reasonably priced for peckish passengers though perhaps, not everyone would like to pay more for what was already paid for a full-service flight. I agree with you though, on the snack - even though it was just 7 hours flight duration, based the timing of the flight (departing late night and arriving in the morning) it would be nice to provide passengers something more substantial, especially since many may have skipped dinner.

As always great to hear your voice and as always great video...I flew on Etihad from hkg to Zurich via their home base on their a330 and then a350 but I must say it looks like they have improve their meals but over all maybe it's just me but somehow on all my flights on Emirates and even Qatar....middle eastern cuisine just don't go well with me...I am still an old Asian fart that prefers Asian meals...glad u enjoyed it...all the best and happy safe travels Gavin!
This video was part 2 from Nairobi to Singapore? Transit at Abu Dhabi. Etihad already out of my flight list forever already since they introducing new catering service. Buy on board are jokes for middle east airline company, look at competitor still providing full service for free and Etihad going budget airline direction. Since it going Budget airline direction, It also first middle east full service airline drop a star to 4 star carrier. Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Gulf Air are more better option specially Oman Air, flight ticket are cheaper (Asia to Europe) and still get full service.

Maybe I am very optimistic, but I do see their buy-on-board as something extra on top of their complimentary meal service - just as an extra service for passengers - after all, the options are very affordable! I also like the concept of bigger main course portion. That said, that's my personal view. I'd be happy to fly QR and EK as well!
A little confused! An airline that recites an Islamic prayer before a flight and yet serves alcohol. Isn't the name 'Etihad' itself a religious word? Is Etihad a low budget airline by not including meal cost in the ticket? I agree with you at 14:24. So many questions, hope to have answers... Thank you!

Very obvious downgrade and monetizing of products. With prices so competitive, if I am flying from the middle east, Qatar and Emirates would still be a better choice. Even Oman beats this, EY is really down the drains.
Given Etihad prices are the same as all others, why would anyone choose them. Given they make you pay for additional food/drink. Its 👎from me. No thanks.
I wont fly with them because to dish out food like this on a long flight is disgraceful, stick an extra £10 on the flight and have some dignity and pride when handing a meal out

Etihad meens "union". It is an Arabic word, not a religious one.
