Unfortunately we filmed this video before getting Paul's latest email but had asked us if we could do a couple shout outs for him so I thought I could include them here :) From Paul - Here's my explanation and the very reason I sent the package. I watch a lot of food tasting videos on UA-cam. The videos recently sent me into 2 shops: one is a book shop where I purchased Taylor Downing's 1942 Britain at the Brink and Poverty, by America by author Matthew Desmond. History wasn't the first genre I bought, it was food. The World Atlas of Coffee (2nd edition) by English barista James Hoffmann was literally the very first book I purchased from there (I went into the shop looking for a coffee book). Since shopping there I've bought around 10 books. That bookshop is fantastic and it won an award in 2020 as the world's best bookshop. The bookshop is on High Street in Auckland city and is called (of the 4 food books I've purchased, my top pick is Sacandavian from Scratch by Nichole Accettola; baking) The 2nd shop is the UK Grocer in . A lot of British food featured in food tasting videos on UA-cam, I was able to purchase from the UK Grocer. Of all the international food and drink I've sampled (which is a lot) Yorkshire tea is literally my top pick (it was within the first to three or four foods and drinks I've sampled, it went to the top and hasn't been knocked off; this includes food).
@@ThisWithThem Cadbury was made in NZ (Dunedin) up to only a few years ago. Cadbury still made in Aussie, not many Kiwi's would put Cadbury before Whittakers.
Most kiwis will pick Whittaker's over cadbury any day. Cadbury shot themsleves in the foot by changing the recipe to include palm oil (which they quickly reversed after a huge plummet in sales and public opinion) and by closing their factory in Dunedin. Cadbury definitely feels and tastes cheaper here, must have a different recipes in different countries/markets. Loved the video, love seeing my favorite snacks being tried for the first time.
Cadbury also replaced the cane sugar in all their chocolate with Corn syrup, which became the Australian standard. I won't touch that shite, now. Cadbury NZ used to be great, almost as good as Whittakers but now it is shite.
Besides Kbars, that was the only other Whittaker's product I ever knew of when I was a kid. I'm not a fan of their blocks but buy them as gifts. I still buy Peanut slabs for myself though.
As an English woman living in New Zealand . The Cadbury factory was in Dunedin, but it shut down and all production moved to Australia. The formulation of Austalian Cadburys is different from the English because it has to stay firm at hotter temperatures. The Whittakers bars you have are the family bars they have a sabre bar which is the correct size to put in a mug of milk to make hot chocolate chunky bars which have about 6 pieces and their most famous bar is the peanut slab which is about the size of a playing card.
I just discovered your channel, fun! I'm here in New Zealand having a bit of a giggle at your expressions when you bit into the Whittaker's chocolates. Yes, that's the standard size block, and comes in a huge variety of flavours. They do a sampler bag of all of their standard chocolate, you'd probably go a bit nuts on them! They also do a gourmet selection of chocolate bars, which are absolutely divine. Whittaker's have won so many international awards for their chocolates, and very well deserved too. They do amazing very dark Ghana 90%, which is to me the best chocolate ever made, and is superb for baking, I'm with you on the good old L&P, and yes, it works very well with Whisky, Bourbon, Vodka, Brandy, pretty much anything really! Hope you find a supplier over there!
For any non-Brits reading this, have you ever had Monster Much pickled onion crisps? They are barely ever in-stock in NZ. They are amazing! They have a whack of vinegar flavour that isn't over the top.
Whittakers is the best chocolate in the world. That is the standard size of chocolate in NZ. Whittakers also do "single serve" chocolate bars as well. Cadbury's is crap since it got made in Australia. They changed the recipe. Eta is pronounced Eat-a, kind of like beater without the "b".
From New Zealand, totally agree, Cadbury used to the chocolate leader in this country, but not any more by a long shot, "Whittakers" hands down winners😋
@@cadifan I said aside from Lindt, as in discard it (this is probably misinterpretation caused by social media). Let alone preferring Whittaker's I don't even like Lindt. Do you know of the food shop Safka on Pitt street in Auckland city? Its a Finland food shop (Scandinavia). They sell Northern European brands. The reason I watch these videos is because they are about tasting food, not sales. Did you answer my question? I didn't ask about company sales, I asked if you've tasted those foods? (this is why I watch these videos, they're very accurate) My favourite is Camille Bloch from Switzerland. It even baffles me how Lindt became the most known brand by Switzerland.
I would say Whittaker's is definitely top NZ store bought brand. Macadamia one is the best. On the biscuit front, Griffins to NZ is like Arnott's to Australia although we do also have lot of Arnott's products as well. The Griffins Chit Chat is our answer to the Tim Tam. 🍪
That is the standard size of Whittakers in NZ, my favorite is the jelly tip, which is like a raspberry jelly filling to the pieces with a base of milk chocolate and a top layer of white chocolate. Whittakers do export international as well, but those blocks are about half the size to what we have here 😊 And Eta is pronounced "Eater" 😁 I've never tried that flavor though. I normally just get salted and make a "kiwi dip", which is nestle reduced cream and Maggi onion soup mix, mixed together and chilled in the fridge for a good half hour

Cadbury's was once the best in NZ and had won an international chocolate award many years ago, hence it wrapped its chocolate in gold. But, against public opinion, Cadbury's changed the recipe to include (cheap) palm oil. Those Whittaker's chocolate blocks are the standard size, 250g. NZ Cadbury went downhill as soon as the Dunedin factory closed and Australia took over production.
