The runners legitimately look like there's still people inside them. I completely understand Sam's fear now, they just look like normal people with wounds.
3:33 The difference between the 2 runners really gets me. the pose helps too but the facial expressions especially are insane. the one on the left just looks like a soulless monster, whereas in the part one model you can see so much fear and emotion in the runner's face - you can still see the humanity. you are able to remember that she/it was once a human who had a life and loved ones, maybe even recently. you're left wondering how sentient the infected really are
Thats what i was thinking, I remember reading somewhere that the infected (1st stage) and runners (2nd stage) still have their mind at this point, but the fungus has taken away their motor controls, thats why you hear them crying, and yelling and see them twitching, they are desperately trying to regain control, but they can't...they are forced to watch their mind and body deteriorate as they tear innocent people apart, peice by peice.....im so glad the new models show their pain, it makes it so much sadder..
@@lucask4377 oh no i know that, like using that term as a collective name, but I remember watching a video explaining each stage and it referred to the first stage simply as "infected" and said those were the ones that stood still, hunched over in corners, not the ones that walk around and jerk and cry, because those are runners

I look forward to playing the part where Ellie and Sam connect. Sams new design is flawless and he looks more like a troubled, traumatized child now.
I see in this remake version, every character is more alive and the expressions of the characters are very real and the lighting in this remake game is more real, this is amazing....
Anyone else looking at the new part 1 models and thinking "isnt that already how they were like i swear thats how I remember them looking" until you see the originals next to them and you start to understand that there is a decent upgrade to this new version, or is this just me ?
Yeah same here. When I saw gameplay of it, I thought "isn't this how it looked back on the PS3?" So I fired it up again on my PS3 for the first time in years and wow it does not hold up lol.
Yeah I was exactly the same, I played through the first game probably 6 - 8 times, I think it’s just because back then it seemed like a realistic, grounded game. Well for the time it really was. So our minds think of it very fondly. I bought the remake out of my sheer love for the original. I’ll take a better version of that classic masterpiece any day.
yeah its not just you... i already platinum this game, and it feels like the one i played in ps3 and ps4 just with major visual upgrade because all the layout, mechanic etc is exactly the same. theres no "remake" on the gameplay whatsoever other than the AI kept flanking you
Yup as soon as that shot opens of her laying on the couch before Joel walks into the scene, I was blown away with how amazingly alive she looked. Her facial expressions and tears during her death scene made it just as emotional if not more emotional for me than it was the first time I saw it, even obviously knowing it was coming this time.
Some of my favorite changes, other than graphics and textures, of course: 1- Everyone's eyes are a lot smaller and WAY more realistic. You can especially see this on Ellie. 2- The new Stalker model looks a lot more like a stage that would make sense inbetween a Runner and a Clicker, as you can actually see how the face is already being split apart. 3- Some of the facial features of the VAs seem to have made their way onto the character models, I believe. I feel like you can see this best on Joel and Ellie. 4- All the models are a lot less satureated in color, and are shaded a lot more realisticaly.
3:33 yeah, you can tell here, the runners face (remake) and clothes look way more detailed, as opposed to the runner (original), which is just clothes covered in frost, and a bloodstained face
My favorite remodel was Bill. You can see the emotion in his eyes and it makes you wonder what made him so paranoid in the first place. Really loved this remake.
"As bad as those things are, atleast they're predictable... its the normal people that scare me.. you of all people should know that." -bill talking to Joel before entering the church. Honestly though, really hope we get more of an inside of what went down between Bill and Joel. Especially the "favor" Bill owed Joel so much so to give him probably the only fixable truck in "his town." Hopefully the show HBO is coming out with provides some insight on the subject. Im also interested in how Joel met tess and how long they've been together. I mean, tess has got to be a helluva woman to get Joel to trust her nonetheless be romantically invested in her. I mean the dailouge between the two suggests that they really do "put the beds together."
Especially seeing bill when he saw Frank dead body, you can see the sadness and guilt in his face, (yes the remaster did that too but the remake beat that).
Both Sam and Henry look so much younger 🥺 Along with Henry’s dialogue about how he dreams of riding a motorcycle, the remake’s graphics really highlight how Henry had to step up and be his brothers primary caretaker and protecter, despite Henry himself still being quite young
It’s crazy to think how he was just a normal doctor that was just another nobody but they turned him into someone and redid his face in part 2 as Abby’s dad. It’s good to see him finally look like the doctor in part 2 that is now in part 1
@@nukaberry447 I care about consistency. No one cares if you're an edgy kid who wants to hate for the sake of attention. I don't like Abby at all, but I liked Jerry, and seeing the consistency between the 2 games improves immersion immensely.
@@Alloy_GB I really wished that they kept the same doctor from the remake into part 2 instead of the whole racial controversy and stuff. But consistency does matter and it gets annoying when it's not.
It's amazing to see how far the graphics have come! I remember playing in 2013 and thinking to myself "it literally can't get any better than this". Oh, how wrong I was...
Everything about the clickers and cordyceps fungi in the environment is so much more realistic and disgusting in the remake and I love it. The aesthetic of the original/remaster served its purpose and was effective for its time but having enhanced geometry and tesselation in the texture maps makes a world of difference and takes the surroundings and enemies to a new level of believability.
it's crazy that 10 years ago the original game's graphics looked stunning and now they look soulless, imagine in the next 10 years what graphics would look like.
Oh, you want a glimpse? Take a look at demonstrations of pathtraced raytracing, such as Nvidia's Marbles demo. In 10 years we'll likely have GPUs that can can do multibounce, noise-free pathtracing at 60fps+. The difference it makes to faces, materials, environments is insane.
@@Thatscrazybro1l I wonder how much power Nintendo could put under the hood if for the next gen console they build they focus on muscle entirely. Eventually they will have to.
While many believe this remake wasn’t needed, they sure did put a lot of effort into doing the original justice with these new models. Makes it worth buying in the long run, to say the least. The infected look a lot more terrifying, characters have a lot more expressions and color to them, and some background characters like the doctor (Abby’s dad) are turned into legit impactful ones. This is a lot more than what I had in mind for a remake.
Ugh... yeah, I cringe every time ppl say that. Of course it wasn't "needed", it's just a video game. LoL. But it was wanted. It's nice to have part 1 Ellie actually resemble part 2 Ellie. Plus the remake feels more immersive somehow, I guess because the designs look so real.
@@KrazyVideoChickPretty sure you have that the wrong way around because she should look more like she did in the first one in the second one for continuity, and the reason why it's argued it wasn't needed is because everyone knows that it was only made in order to connect it to the second, pathetic installment hence the name change that wasn't needed as well as the other changes that were blatant.
These models look phenomenal and it's amazing to see how far graphics have evolved from the first game, though one thing I notice is that the new models look quite a bit cleaner. Like, at 2:43, you can see paint on the respirator and smears of grime on the lenses. You can even see dirt on Joel's clavicle. And at 2:55, you can see the dirt on Ellie's skin- you can even see small cuts and redness on her arms. And her hair has that distinct apocalypse grease. These new models are so cool and I am so excited, but I think the grime really gave TLoU so much soul and realism and just doesn't translate in these new models.
right like sometimes i feel like im the only one who really enjoys the remake i understand its expensive but they put in so much work to make the game that much more dynamic
These models are in the model viewer which makes them "clean". Because now there's systems that can add sweat, blood, and dirt onto the character models dynamically. Previously all that work was being done by the texture work by now it can be done in real time depending on the scene or context.
It's crazy how much of a leap two generations is. We thought Joel looked pretty damn real in 2013 and now it's not even close. I can't imagine what games will look like in another 20 years.
It looks so f-ing real. I remember one time my mom was amazed how amazing the last of us part 2 looked saying how they looked so real. I know now that even if it’s still a game, she won’t brush it off again cause of graphics. It feels like I’m looking at alternate realities where it looks a little different than our own
I like the fact that you can see the change in resolve in Ellie between the original and the remake. Before she looks so scared with everything, while in the remake they tighten every grip and stance making her look ready to fight
Not against the remake, i am against ND promising multi for TLO2 multiple times, 2 years later just a remake (most of the new assets come from TLOU2 btw) well no multi, they will launch it as a standalone game btw so more money for people who buy TLO2 expecting a multi launch later, then TLO1 remake without its own multi so it doesnt have full content and one of the most replayable thing in the first game btw, for a cheap price of 70 dollars, i will be happy for a 40 dollars price tag as TLO2 actual price, it is indeed a really overprice game and it will just give the bad idea of other companies cough cough EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard to relaunch remakes (that will be clearly not as detailed as this one) and give them a full price tag, my man the only thing that change were the graphics, this could be a 70 dollars tag game coming with TLO2 with its own PS5 port with Raytracing etc or 40 Dollars and a free upgrade for previous owners of TLO2, they didnt care much of the players to be honest, they just wanted to create something with great graphics and earn easy money, TLO1 was so much beloved so it was an easy bet
Most people are too poor to understand what technologies bring in gaming experience. And most of the time poverty meeans ignorance. That's why there are so many toxic persons around. Naughty Dog did a great job. It was needed for new players on new console after TLOU2 has been released. And no one cares in the studio and SIE management about crying ignorant kids.
I literally started to tear up watching this. My brother got the original game for his birthday when it came out in 2013 and I played it right away at age 11. This game has been probably my all time favorite and to see the new graphics for it makes me so unbelievably happy. I'm so proud of Naughty dog and I'm so fortunate to have had the opportunity to play other games made by them like Jak and Daxter and Uncharted. I would LOVE for them to remake the Uncharted games with these new graphics! I can't imagine how amazing it would look!
Okay so while I do think the remake looks better, I also miss some for the old infected. Specifically the stalkers and bloater. The old stalkers looked more ... human? Like they look afraid, which I think is interesting and makes them seem more haunting for me. I always thought of stalkers a bit like ghosts rather than wild beasts, and I think that look of sorror and tragedy really captured it. Also while the newer bloater is more detailed and cooler, I really like the deep sea vibes the old model gave. The colour just makes it seem more unique and mysterious. The new model just looks like any other buff zombie. However, like I say it still looks really good and I like the detail
I think the new ones looks more "human" as in their faces are more detailed, but I too miss the scared and tortured emotions that especially runners and stalkers had, since they're still aware of what they're doing. It's tragic
It's literally the other way around? In the remake runners look way more that they are in pain, wich makes sense. Stalkers are no longer human, the runners are the only ones who need to look afraid
2003 If you see it like that with runners that's fine. With stalkers I just kind of liked them appearing like ghosts. It isn't a deal or anything, just relating back to when I first saw them in the first game
I really like the new zombies design, they feel way more realistic and human, giving you that little moral crisis. They also made characters more expressive, it's a win for me
Words cannot even express how thankful I am for the devs to remake this one. Absolutely stunning. It gave me a reason to play it again and the feelings are still there. And it got better. Thank you Naughty Dog and all the team behind this masterpiece!
Right??? 🤪 This remake was necessary because TLOU remastered was so outdated 😔... I was asking for the remake for like 20 years, but we finally got it ☺️ and it looks so much different now.
I liked the runner's eyes being dead and disconnected in the original more than focused and angry in the new one, that's the only thing I'm sad they changed
im sure since it’s a “runner”, that’s the last thing it did before it turned. in your last breaths, you’d feel focused on trying to make it out alive by running and being angry you don’t have the stamina to make it. that’s the last face you’d ever really make before you die. when people die in shock in real life, their body will remain in a frigid tense state (even after rigor mortis sets in) and their expression will remain however shocked they were before death, as long as the facial structure is still intact. the first runner looks angry, of course, because that’s the last thing she felt before turning. the second runner shown looks sad and hopeless - because once you get bitten as a non-immune, you’re done. the original models had NO emotion whatsoever. they were depicted as disconnected, like you said. but the body still remains, and even though runners are no longer considered human, their physical feature will remain in whatever state they died in.
The infection on the brain amps agresion so I believe thats the reason for the angry expresion on the infected, but i will agree , the lost disconnected expresion looks way scarier
They got rid of Bills backpack which I think is weird considering the fact that he was a survivor who was like Joel and Tess (they knew each other and also carry’s backpacks). And he also looks friendlier in a strange sort of way.
David, Tess, and Bill definitely look like their age now. It's weird how their looks can also shift their personalities (from my pov). David looks more soft-spoken and less creepy. Bill looks more compassionate and less of a jerk. Tess looks roughly the same, if not a little more ruthless. Heck, even Robert is more lifelike.
I remember when this came out for the ps3 being absolutely astounded at the story and graphics, now seeing the changes I believe this will be one of the only times we as game players will be able to relive the experience.
Everyone like me apparently with the memory of a goldfish thinking it just looked upscale. It's absolutely stunning seeing it side by side. Just one of those classic games where they so masterfully nailed the visual impact that your mind glorifies it.
i love both the old and new designs, equally i think. I think the art style of the originals really shines, and i love how the new models look like how you remember the game looking when you think about it in your mind. The amount of care and love that went into both the old designs and the new ones is so apparent, and greatly appreciated.
As someone who has never played and will never play the last of us or it's sequel: I like the old designs more. The new ones might be "better" because they're more realistic, but the old designs have charm to them.
¡Presente!
Somewhere in the future, I reckon our capabilities to design models will be so advanced that the remake’s models would look as old as the remastered version.
I don't know what others think, but looking at the side by side comparison of Joel 2:17, the old one makes him look a little bit Asian (at least in that one specific angle). Not trying to be racist or anything either. Just something that comes to mind when I saw that is all. I remember Joel looking pretty different but they really did a rework on his face by the looks of it. And honestly, I do appreciate the newer version more. His look fits his southern voice and whatnot more in the new one, to me at least.
It's fascinating to see that some of the old design with the textures and polygons remember me to the old Resident Evil Zombies, now this is a good redesign
Omg i love this so much, the "zombies" actually look like humans in their early stages, you can really imagine what they would look like as people. The runners actually look like they are in pain, heartbroken and scared, which is amazing since we know that deep down there is a person trapped in there, still alive, helplessly trying to fight against their urges . also the kids LOOK LIKE KIDS. Seeing sams worried face hurt my heart alittle because he reminds me that kids are going through this, not tiny adults, children. And Ellie looks so much like ELLIE now, before she always looked kinda off to me and i didnt know why, but they fixed it. Also prolouge tommy looks like Tommy, idk its just crazy how much more alive everyone looks now Theyve also fixed alot of lighting issues, and looks like they turned the saturation way down which I love, I always thought the infected looked to "bright" if that makes sense? Now even with a blue shirt on, the characters still feel like they are in a gray, terrifying world, much more fitting for the atmosphere

I’ll take a better version of that classic masterpiece any day.
yeah its not just you... i already platinum this game, and it feels like the one i played in ps3 and ps4

For me, Sarah has the best remodel. She looks insanely real! I also love Tess despite being made to look older. It feels appropriate.
Yup as soon as that shot opens of her laying on the couch before Joel walks into the scene, I was blown away with how amazingly alive she looked. Her facial expressions and tears during her death scene made it just as emotional if not more emotional for me than it was the first time I saw it, even obviously knowing it was coming this time.
beside hands
I'm glad she looks her age now. You're not as cynical and skilled as she is at a young age.
Tess is literally in her 40s. She's gonna look older
6:32 old Sarah had more drip tho😂
Some of my favorite changes, other than graphics and textures, of course:
1- Everyone's eyes are a lot smaller and WAY more realistic.
Joel looks nothing like Troy Baker lol
My favorite remodel was Bill. You can see the emotion in his eyes and it makes you wonder what made him so paranoid in the first place.
Really loved this remake.
"As bad as those things are, atleast they're predictable... its the normal people that scare me.. you of all people should know that."
-bill talking to Joel before entering the church.
I don't know, he kinda looks a bit too much like Russell Crowe for me now.
@@Gatlinggunman lol thought I was the only who thought that, too
Bill looked sorta like an old decaying cardboard cutout in a way before
In the remake he looks far more like a normal guy
Both Sam and Henry look so much younger 🥺 Along with Henry’s dialogue about how he dreams of riding a motorcycle, the remake’s graphics really highlight how Henry had to step up and be his brothers primary caretaker and protecter, despite Henry himself still being quite young

I felt a genuine wave of revulsion looking at the infected folks now. Also, man their PS3 era models did not hold up as well as the main characters.
Ugh... yeah, I cringe every time ppl say that. Of course it wasn't "needed", it's just a video game. LoL. But it was wanted. It's nice to have part 1 Ellie actually resemble part 2 Ellie. Plus the remake feels more immersive somehow, I guess because the designs look so real.
@@RicochetForce the clickers literally made my skin CRAWL!! 🤣

After all the first game was made for Hardware from 2005/2006, thats a huge difference.
that's because the game doesn't just coat the player in dirt constantly like the original. Its called dynamics
It feels like I’m looking at alternate realities where it looks a little different than our own
And that's only going to grow as time rolls on. Even laymen and women are acknowledging videogames look nuts now.
I personally don't think TLOU part 1 looks that good on PC. TLOU Part 2 looks absolutely stunning and insane though.
Tess and Henry have had the biggest upgrade they look insane. In some scenes they look like real people
Love how realistic the eyes are in the remake
7:53 for some reason the spinning horse made me laugh 😂
I like the fact that you can see the change in resolve in Ellie between the original and the remake. Before she looks so scared with everything, while in the remake they tighten every grip and stance making her look ready to fight
Huh? Unless I’m missing something that isn’t intentional
The cutscenes literally look like a live action movie. Almost scary with how real they look under certain lighting.

I completely agree. People just don’t like when the same game is done 3 or more times, but this was a must I very much agree with you.
Not against the remake, i am against ND promising multi for TLO2 multiple times, 2 years later just a remake (most of the new assets come from TLOU2 btw) well no multi, they will launch it as a standalone game btw so more money for people who buy TLO2 expecting a multi launch later, then TLO1 remake without its own multi so it doesnt have full content and one of the most replayable thing in the first game btw, for a cheap price of 70 dollars, i will be happy for a 40 dollars price tag as TLO2 actual price, it is indeed a really overprice game and it will just give the bad idea of other companies cough cough EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard to relaunch remakes (that will be clearly not as detailed as this one) and give them a full price tag, my man the only thing that change were the graphics, this could be a 70 dollars tag game coming with TLO2 with its own PS5 port with Raytracing etc or 40 Dollars and a free upgrade for previous owners of TLO2, they didnt care much of the players to be honest, they just wanted to create something with great graphics and earn easy money, TLO1 was so much beloved so it was an easy bet
for me personally, I think it's great that it's coming to pc finally. yet they also improved upon the graphics for the next gen which is even better.
it wasn't needed, but Im glad they did

I literally started to tear up watching this. My brother got the original game for his birthday when it came out in 2013 and I played it right away at age 11. This game has been probably my all time favorite and to see the new graphics for it makes me so unbelievably happy. I'm so proud of Naughty dog and I'm so fortunate to have had the opportunity to play other games made by them like Jak and Daxter and Uncharted. I would LOVE for them to remake the Uncharted games with these new graphics! I can't imagine how amazing it would look!

But it's a still image though, not an animation
It kinda looks like a photoshoot
Literally.
Although, i like the bloater gross looking in the remake, looks more like something you dont wanna figth with
I think the new ones looks more "human" as in their faces are more detailed, but I too miss the scared and tortured emotions that especially runners and stalkers had, since they're still aware of what they're doing. It's tragic
It's literally the other way around? In the remake runners look way more that they are in pain, wich makes sense. Stalkers are no longer human, the runners are the only ones who need to look afraid

Excelente trabajo
