I am not judging in anyway. I’ve been a sewist for over 40 years taught by my Nana, who was born in 1912. I think we should always do what works best for us. I would have used the grid of the crochet to center the work under the clasp and start stitching from the center working down one side tying off at the hinge…come back to the center and worked to the other side…repeat. Double stitches in each is perfect. Working from center out makes not only the work more even but also distributes the tension evenly. You could lightly fray check the side cuts if you wanted to. I would also over stitch the area where the cuts meet the work under the hinge where it is not attached to the frame. A young woman would have possibly have an older woman guiding her through her work. The little purse is beautiful and I hope you aren’t afraid to use it daily. 🌈🌈🦋🦋

I don't crochet, so I don't know much, but as an experienced (old!) sewist myself, I also wondered about the cut edges, and the fact that the design was not centered on the clasp. I can't imagine making something with such tiny stitches! I've always wondered how the beads got in the middle of the crochet. This is a wonderful video.

Can you explain working out from the centre please? Do you mean the centre of the pattern, as 2 seperate halves that are joined?

Corrina, I always knew you were extremely talented, but you have far outdone yourself with this little purse! It is exquisite beyond words! My hat is off to you. I hope we get to see you carrying it when you take us on an excursion one of these days! Thank you for treating us to this journey!

Now I need to make beaded crochet projects! This opens up a whole new world. I don't think this particular purse would work for me, but I'm looking forward to beading a project for the first time, and to steeking! I've never seen it done in crochet before, so thank you for taking the plunge. That cardigan crocheted in the round and then steeked that I've been so scared of? It's going to happen. Thank you for being inspirational!

I have got to tell you…
    GREAT JOB!!!!👏
Also watching the first video I said to myself “that’s beautiful but I can’t think of any reason to make one for myself”.
By the end of the third video I told my husband “I don’t care if I have a reason, I’m making one!!!!”
Love you and all your hard work and wonderful ideas!😋

When I am concerned about fraying I use "Fray Check" it stops the ends from moving and coming apart. You may be able to still use it. Congratulations on making the pattern to work. After years of custom sewing I use the philosophy of " If you mess up and can't hide it, flont it!" Good job. It is beautiful!

  • @mmetr11

Beautiful! I always wondered how a purse like that would be made. I have been knitting and crocheting and sewing for 50 years. Here are my suggestions. I would have crocheted the bottom together with the added beads (good modifications with the added beads). Then I would have blocked the piece, working the slight twist to the fabric out and making sure the pattern is straight. Then I would have planned where to make the cuts. I also would probably add some Fray Check (as others have said) before stitching into the frame. Also reinforcing at the bottom of the cuts is important. Finally, I would have used pins stuck through the frame and fabric to help get the fabric evenly stretched across the frame so there is enough to get under the side portions of the frame. A beautiful project and well put together videos and sound! Pat yourself on the back again!

This is beautiful, and what an accomplishment. After watching the pain of cutting into all your hard work, I think I would stop working in the round when I get to the clasp section and instead work a front flap back and forth, then a back flap back and forth, with no beads in the area where the fabric joins the clasp. Great job!

    • @1stladydjfirebird724
      @1stladydjfirebird724 3 місяці тому +1

I like the flap idea. Besides not inducing a heart attack like cutting (lol), it seems like it would safeguard the integrity of the fabric's edge.

@@OopsCrocheteasily. U just put them on the other side. For me her way was bizarre - i usually put bids on the front side when i crochet bracelets ( never tried purse yet), so obviously u can do it on both sides of the work

Hi Corinna. Knitters cut their work when they work what is called steeks when knitting sweaters. Look up knitting steeks to get an example. I have done it once and my hands were shaking too! I think what the secret to cutting the work without the stitches fraying is to work a thread up through the work on each side of where you are going to cut. The thread woven into the work will anchor the stitches and prevent them from unraveling. I would suggest slip stitching up the side starting a stitch or two below where you are going to stop the cutting that way you don't have any work below the cut in danger of working loose. That's my two cents worth. Beautiful work. Bravo.

There are several crochet tutorials I've watched over the years and yours are the best by far. ❤ I'm 61 and I've crocheted since the 5th grade, and as long as I've crocheted, I still learn new things. Love your tutorials and thank you for having such a cute personality that makes these videos worth watching to the end (without speeding it up or fast forwarding)😂 I'm sure we've all been there 😉 Keep smiling xoxoxo

Ideas: center the bag and pin it to the center of the frame, sew from the center out to help keep symmetry, pin the bag and frame to a pillow so they move less, sew with invisible thread or clear fishing line, add beads to frame stitches to hide thread. ❤

I freakin love it! I'm not sure if I would use that pattern, all the tweaks are a little confusing so maybe you will find a new pattern that is better but OMG it is beautiful, and I would SO use that for a purse because I hate big purses. I would use the long chain and carry it cross body. BUT OMG it's so awesome! I think I would have tried burning or gluing the edges right after cutting, and then would have turned it inside out and ironed it (gently) with something like parchment paper to protect it, just to straighten it out to help it keep it's shape. I do like the fringe, I think I would have used something like fishing line to help keep it twisted and would have made the fringe just slightly longer than you had, so it would dangle nicely. That's just me. You are my favorite crochet channel!

It may be a while before I tackle it but it's in my "things to try" bucket for sure.

It is STUNNING! You did an AMAZING job. I can see one carrying it casually with jeans or dress up. I for sure will be trying this in a few years. I do have 1 tweek I am going to try. Instead of having to cut the edges, I'm going to see if I can split the crochet at the start of where one would feed the material into the clasp. That way there is no cutting. Also for the pattern fringe, it appears as if they did some sort of twisted crochet that incorporated the beads.

You can do the French fringe or whatever it's called. You could use very shiny embroidery floss and you pull out a loop, long about 5 inc and then twist the loop about 10 times and then SS into the base/bottom and SK1 and then again pull out a loop about 5inc long and twist 10 times snd SS to the work. Hope that helps. But that's what the pattern looks like they did
