I was there. Live in concert. Supporting act: The German band "Ihre Kinder" Sunday 20 December 1970. in Planten Un Blomen, Messehalle B, Hamburg, Germany.
55:56 very good footwork! his left foot swivels from the back to front on the pedal, respectively playing the bass drum open (beater comes off the head) and muted (beater pushes into the head). during this period, he played single ply heads and practically no dampening, so he could utilize those techniques. u cant really do that on a bass drum with pillows and a hole in the front. i heard a story that joe morello tried to play papa jo jones drums once, and he couldn't get the bass drum to sound right because jo didn't use any dampening- he controlled it like ginger does here. joe was accustomed to using felt strips to control his bass drum.
Wow this is a left turn for ginger ? espescially coming from one of the best groups cream i have heard g.b air force nevet heard them play different i like the sound it sounds like sounds like 60s music san francisco tunes fillmore days😊😊
I havent listened to 2 minutes yet and AWESOME. Rare footage indeed. Just 2 years ago I purchased 2 Graham Bond ORGANization albums (with Ginger and Jack Bruce before Cream). All nicely original ... even when compared to each other. Graham Bond, Cream, Air force (Blind Faith, too). So, wait! This is basically Blind Faith mixed with some Traffic -- and you are flying at a slightly different musical level.. Throw in Graham Bond and some easy on the eyes ladies singing and it's: Air Force. Chris Wood on flute?! Yes?! Answering my own question per somebody else adding the correct lineup for this show: That is NOT Chris Wood on flute. No, Steve Winwood is not here either, but this is still damn good Air Force 2 personnel. You can still see how Winwood and or Wood would fit well in the Air Force mix. Damn. wait till the 16:30 minute mark and the Ginger Baker solo for at least 3 minutes! He was arguably the best.
@@superfuzzymomma Actually word on the street has it....There were day's Ginger did sit around and stare at his big toe...Mind altering makes you do funny things......
Steve Winwood, Chris Wood, Denny Laine, and Ric Grech are not featured here. They had already left the band to reform Traffic and in Laine's case to join Wings.
After a few minutes of listening they remind you very much of Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66: two cute female vocalists, jazzy sound with ethnic drums, psychedelic mod presentation.
Manfred Mann in 1965 was the core of Ginger Baker's motives inspiring him to go pretty much where the Manfred Mann Earth Band was headed at the same time circa 1969.
Hugh Masekela and Ravi Shankar, Charles Mingus and Rahshaan Roland Kirk, Lou Harrison and LaMonte Young not to mention Gregory Bateson and Margret Mitchell who imported semiotics and post modern constructs of language without words of ancient lands beginning in the 1920s inspired not only Ginger Baker to "visit" Africa in a quest for a more sober lifestyle meeting Fela and many other African musicians many post 2nd World War music societies also invited music from around the world during events such as world fairs (see: World's Fair Brussels The choir Les Troubadours du Roi Baudouin (King Baudouin's Troubadours) sang "Missa Luba" at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. I love this, I always loved. Even if it is full of out of tune vocals, even if that flute playing is awful, even if they looked like idiots, that performance is full of raw energy. This is something really special, out of trends, kinda bizarre stuff. 100% cool!!!

😂Epic comment. In just a short time span, Ginger went from being in one of the biggest groups to a where are they now or ever have been. His drum playing here is flailing around ginger bread man to the Nth degree. Certainly an influence to all the obscure flailers for decades to follow.😂
