Wimbledon is a tube station on the District line.
The station opened at its current location on June 3, 1889. It was rebuilt in 1929.

Actually *Southfields* is the closest tube station for visitors to the Wimbledon tennis club - and it's always nicely decorated in July during the championships: 🎾 ua-cam.com/video/KtC8Aw9A-kg/v-deo.html (not my own video).

Some tidbits: the station has no characteristic red roundelswith the station name on the Underground platforms. Because it's a station managed by the railway company, not Transport for London. The Underground station tracks are cul-de-sac, as the Underground terminus, but the railway lines go through the station. Curiously Wimbledon is not on the Overground. And platforms 9 and 10 are reserved as terminus for the trams.
