Are the reasons for the dismasting of Team Guyot linked to the mishap of the dismasting of Team Holcim? So sad for both teams and Guyot still hasto manage to get to Newport... all the best wishes for them!

The last thing the fleet needs is this weather when yet another mast has come down 😢 Rig checks in Newport are going to be extra extra thorough. Sending all the positive vibes to all teams, especially Guyot. What a horrible situation to be in 😢

For the crew of Guyot it must’ve been gut wrenching when realising the mast had broken and we feel deeply for fight they now have to complete to get to Newport. Time is of the essence for them to compete in the next leg.
The gratifying news is that all are safe and the birthday boys will still be able to celebrate when they get ashore again.
We wish the remaining crews safe sailing and we sincerely hope that serious gear failures don’t happen in the closing hours of this leg. 👏👏🤩🤩🙏🙏👍👍

Another great compilation ... but holy cow, my heart breaks for Guyot and Benjamin Dutreux as it did for Holcim/PRB and Kevin Escoffier. Hopefully they both sort things to take the leg 5 start. Meanwhile, it looks to be a photo finish and I hope the remaining 3 finish well and everyone safe.

The only thing we know about the dismasting is what the initial report from the boat said "the mast inverted" I have never heard that term before in this context. Maybe Rosie knows, she was the first to tell us how Holcim lost theirs.

Two dismastings on the same leg? Seems a bit odd.
Hope everyone checks their masts when crossing the Atlantic.

I wonder whether the same part is to blame in the case of Guyot.

I thought the foils would be the failure point, but damn.

No storm jib ? Sounds like they had too much sail up.

My heart is with Guyot - another leg to retire from. Astonishingly brave reactions for loosing the rig out in the open.
This is a 40% Mast failure rate by now - doesn't seam like a random error anymore.

Yeah agreed. Either the masts aren't strong enough or they're pushing them too hard.

And there was me complaining that my old 80's cruiser slams a bit in heavy seas. These flat bottomed IMOCAs are proper bone-shakers aren't they? Obviously a price worth paying for all that speed on the foils, but not hard to imagine how the rigs gets pushed beyond their limits. Sad to see Guyot out. Such bad luck they have had.

We are all a community and feel with Guyot Team. Come good to Newport and put a new mast on your Imoca. From save ground it was not to understand why Malizia didnt go through the cloud as 11th hour. If it`s a 2 boat competition it is a better strategy to stay together and go into tactical sailing 100 sm before reaching the port - Newport. - On the leg to Cape Town, it was senceful for Malizia to go far west towards Brazil. But then why trying an escape to go so far to the south and getting a longer last leg to Capetown as any other boat? - This is not self explaining. But as I wrote: Dont want to be superwise. You are all great sailors and deserve highest respect.
