Mate... drop your tool rest. The idea is to have the cutting edge of the tool level with the centre of rotation, not the rest. As you are set up, your cutting angles are off making the cut inefficient and dangerous.
Thanks for the help Peter. I thought I would have had all the techniques down by now considering the many hours I’ve put into watching similar videos. I also learned that my lathe needs to be sub-1000rpm. Not 1800 rpm which is what this projects was done at. Yes, also very dangerous!!
@@PrestonsProjects Mate, the day we stop learning something new is the day after our funeral. The mug was great looking, the grain in that timber especially. A job to be proud of.
@@PrestonsProjects I love red cedar…..I live in south central Kentucky, my property is covered in red cedar. I have cut and sold several loads and still covered in cedar trees.
@@denisemccarson1163 Yeah, your area is famous for them! We used to make runs to Tennessee loading flatbed trailers with logs to turn into sculptures. Good times!
Better if you used epoxy all over those cracks and pits outside transparent one and the mug should have been a bit tall. Anyways great work keep it up 👍
Obviously you are still learning. Your boring technique put a lot of strain on your motor. Also appeared that your tool was a bit dull. End product was nice. I hope you used a food safe sealer.
Great looking project
Thank you!!
I would have done something about the big blow out and the crack personally
That’s a cute log
Harvested it myself!
I love it. Nice work 👍
I appreciate it!!

Got the forstners! Now things are goin just fine ;)
do not use epoxy while makıng coffee mug or anything related with food/drink. epoxy is cancerojen. only use it decorative, or on table. not food.
@@abdurrahimy7119 thanks dear
@@PrestonsProjects Im looking for a set of forstners myself. What brand did you choose?
Do I want Cedar flavored coffee?
Or do you want coffee flavored cedar?
Is that lathe expensive?

I’ve learned a lot these last few weeks. My motor was running 2x the necessary speed and my new chisels just arrived ;)
I thought a "mug" had a handle on it.
What you have made, is a "cup"
Bem dura essa madeira
It's great to work with. It's been curing for over 10 years!
Cute
Thanks!
Would anyone be scared to drink from it?
I wouldn’t

Токарь мягко говоря не кудышний .
Такую красивую деревяшку сложно испортить. Так много красоты уже есть с обрезкой или без нее.
